Neighborhood Overview

What you will see: The crowds flowing from Taksim Square tend to sweep visitors onto İstiklâl Caddesi; the cars and kebab shops that line the top of Sıraselviler Caddesi, one street to the left of the famous pedestrian thoroughfare. Just out of sight is one of the most attractive parts of Istanbul. After a couple of minutes’ walk from Taksim, its arrival is heralded by a great old-fashioned Istanbul patisserie, Savoy. Across the street and down the stairs is Otto, a fashionable café/bar in a shady tree-filled courtyard. A little further along is Pilot, a pioneering contemporary art space housed in a converted 1970s nightclub. Opposite is a square with the pastel-green Firuz Ağa Mosque and a few cafés that are always busy, including two where you strictly drink tea, lovingly known to the locals as the Cihangir çay bahçesi. Also try Firuz and Kardeşler Kebap. Opposite these, you’ll find a branch of Selim Usta’s Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi, an Old City institution. But for the indigenous

Staying at Pia's was very nice. Pia was most helpful and hospitable. She gave us detailed instructions upfront, met us at Taksim and explained a lot about the neighborhoud. Her apartment is newly and nicely refurbished, with all appliances you might need. The bedrom is quiet with sun and sound of birds in the morning. The apartment is well situated between the lively Istiklal and a net of peaceful small streets with shops, restaurants and galleries. We enjoyed walking around, all the way down to the Bosphorus. We are grateful for experiencing Istanbul. Branimir and Marina

Pia was a great host, took time to describe the neighborhood to us, and helped us settle in. The place is clean, and in a great location tucked away from the crowds. Lots of great places to eat nearby, and quiet at night.

Just an amazing apartment! So clean, luminous and comfortably spacious. I spent wonderful 2 days in this calm, cozy and modern decorated apartment in a historical building. Besides being SO much cheaper than a hotel, there is a very comfortable bed and artistically designed sitting room. Clean furniture, towels and bed linens. It is also possible to prepare something to eat as there is a kitchen. Just 5 minutes by waking to Taksim Square and Istiklal. But still in a very special historic quiet street full of vintage, art and antique shop. Nice neighborhood with homemade food restaurants and small authentic cafeterias. There are also bakeries that you can find freshly-baked bread and other Turkish specialties. Metro and tramway is in walking distance. I just felt like an inhabitant of the quarter. Owner is so kind and friendly!

The flat had a calm, relaxing feel. I enjoyed hanging out there when I wasn't being a tourist. It is stylish and well designed. The furniture, which I liked, is made by the owner. It has a good location too. Cihangir is a cool neighbourhood in its own right but also centrally located. The flat is near cafes for the morning, as well as interesting restaurants and good bars for the evening. The shops in the area are very individual too. The flat is just a walk and short tram ride from the main tourist sites such as Topkapi Palace and Haghia. I had a great time and can really recommend staying here. Richard

I found this Apartment through a friend where I work at the University of California , and was thoroughly disarmed by the quality accommodations that I found upon-my arrival. Pia was the consummate host and went out of her way to ease my arrival into Istanbul which was for my first time ever In Turkey. She even met me at my air bus in Taksim square and personally walked me to her place which is only a few blocks away. This beautiful flat in a storybook location, is situated on a street that one would swear is from the the back lot set of Goldwyn Studios in Hollywood. The neighborhood is truly in the fashion of a Bohemian San Francisco with steep winding streets and many excellent restaurants, flea markets, and designer shops all near by. The best surprise of all was the the fantastic roof patio where one can sit and see the beautiful views of the Golden Horn and the Blue Mosque in the distance. The rooms are airy and light with tall ceilings, and her personally designed cabinets and interior ,had such a simple elegant feel. The separate bedroom is extremely cool in the summer and relaxing ,which has a view to the back over a tree covered 400 year old Hamam .The combined call to prayer and the sound of many birds is positively magic. I highly recommend this Flat Michael Schmitt Santa Barbara California

Truly, it was very hard to leave this beautiful apartment in the most wonderful area of the most wonderful city. Pia was an excellent host, staying up until the wee hours to greet us after we arrived on a very late flight and got stuck in traffic for hours. She provided lots of useful advice on what to do, where to eat and what to see; and not just for Istanbul, Pia was very obliging in offering us tips for one of our future destinations (India). The apartment itself is serene, peaceful, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished making it hard to resist the temptation to simply stay in and relax! We wouldn't hesitate for a moment on recommending Pia's apartment. Thank you Pia for a wonderful stay, Michael & Kieran.

We spent five days and nights in Istanbul and were happy to stay at Pias appartment. We very much enjoyed our stay. The appartment is perfectly located in Beyoglu where you have many shops, restaurants and bars. The neighbourhood is very lively and sometimes loud at night but the appartment is in a quiet street which is perfect. Unfortunatelly for some reason there was no possibility to use the roof terrasse that is shown on the pictures as I was told by Pias friend who showed me the appartment when arriving. So if you attach importance to a terrasse, better check this out.

Location is simply great: few steps away from nice evening-out places, the main shopping street, about 10min to get to the tram, etc. At the same time the flat and the bedroom was quiet and had everything we needed. Pia is very nice person and very good host.

First of all, Pia was a very kind host, she waited for us while we arrived with a very late flight, checked if everything was ok during the stay, kept our luggages in the appartment the day we left & called us a cab to return to the airport. The appartment is perfectly located, in modern Istanbul, 2mn from Istikal street, but at the same time is very quiet. There is no noise at night, while there are plenty of nice coffees and restaurant very close. There is also a tram station to get to old Istanbul (Sulthnamet) walking distance,15mn walk down the hill. The appartment itself is very nicely decorated, very clean and confortable. Only you should know, if you do not come in the summer, that there is no central heating, only one portative heater that you can move one room to another. In March, we were quite cold. So we would recommand with no hesitation the place, but preferably with summer weather.

Pia's place was fantastic. Located minutes from the bustling IIstiklal Street and Taksim Square, the apartment is clean and cozy. Shops selling great food are nearby. And if you need the metro, it's also walking distance. Pia was very helpful and even though I arrived late at night, she waited for me and spoke to the taxi driver to give him instructions. And Pia even made the effort to take us around despite her busy schedule. What a host! This is an ideal place if you want peace and quiet, and yet want to be at a central location.

Amazing apartment in the best area! We had a lovely time in Pia's apartment and we couldn't have wished for a better location. It is in the middle of all the cool shops and new trendy local restaurants. She was a lovely host and we can definitely recommend this place.

Pia was a very affectionate and helpful host. The appartement was exactly as described: Very clean, great style, quiet and situated at the best location you could wish in Istanbul. There are various nice cafés, bars and restaurants nearby and the narrow streets are very peaceful and picturesque. We are thankful for the great recommendations Pia gave us to make our holidays in Istanbul special and unforgettable. We would definitely recommend staying at her appartement!
