Our sunny, newly renovated and furnished ground-floor apartment is located in the heart of Brooklyn, in the historic Stuyvesant Heights area of Bed-Stuy. We are close to the A train (express) and C train (local), getting you to lower Manhattan in 15 minutes and Midtown in under 30 minutes, and the J-train for lower Manhattan. For easy access to Fort Greene, Williamsburg and the rest of Brooklyn, try our new Citibike station, also nearby. Walk down treelined brownstone streets to neighborhood favorites like Saraghina, Lunatico, l'Antagoniste, Bed-Vyne Cocktail Bar, the Wilky craft beer bar and Manny's cafe (serving Bed-Stuy's famous Dough donuts!). Rules
A/C may be used only when you are at home. Please respect our delicate old pipes (no grease down the drain, etc.). No smoking on premises. Guests are expected to wash take out their trash and recycling as needed. Guests are expected to wash and put away dishes prior to check-out (apartment has a dishwasher, soap packets are under the sink) Longer term guests may wish to launder the sheets and towels during their stay. This service is not provided. (There are two sets of bed linens provided and two sets of towels for each adult guest.) Owners may occasionally need to go through the apartment to access the basement. We shall endeavor to give advance notice of this and find a mutually convenient time. $50 fee if keys are lost or not returned.

Shaila's place is amazing! It's new, it's clean and it's big! And Shaila is very accommodating, we found everything we needed (cooking, coffee) and more. Given that we were the first guests she hosted through airbnb I can say that she did an amazing job!

Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex are wonderful hosts really, they helped us every time we needed with directions, the internet, the supermarket, the post office !!! (thank you guys !!!).The place and the neighbord are great, 8 blocks far from the apartment you have the subway and 30 min. later you are in the island, we moved early in the morning, late at night (sometimes we came back at 2am) and everything turned out great.Definetly I would come back to their apartment, It's bigger than ours in Argentina !!! I look forward to stay there again and, next time, go out with you guys and have a beer or anything. Bye !!! - Guido and Carla -
Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex were incredibly accommodating and me and my girlfriend enjoyed our stay thoroughly. Highly recommended. The place was very private and homely. I didn't really know anything about New York and was nervous about staying in bed stuy but it was safe and friendly everywhere I went. Very easy to get to the airport and manhattan by train.

Alex gave us a really useful list of nice restaurants and coffee places near the place (We are very happy to have discovered, the restaurant "Saraghina", thanks to Alex's map!). The apartment is vast, furnished with taste and very convenient. We highly recommend!

Jun 27, 2019My sister and I loved staying here! The apartment is very spacious and recently renovated so it looks amazing. The kitchen has everything you need with Alex and Shalia stocking it with a few basics. The neighbourhood is a little shabby, especially compared to the home we stayed in. We were told by some people in Manhattan that the neighbour of Bed-Stuy used to be very dangerous and just to be careful walking around at night. Walking from the subway after dark was a little daunting but we remained safe. We did catch a cab a few times from Manhattan as it was very late. Overall, it was a positive experience with Alex and Shalia being very helpful, even going out of their way to let us store our luggage at Shalia's work the day we were to fly out. They were great hosts.
Jun 27, 2019We just met Alex when we checked in, but anyhow he had been a very friendly and helpful host. He was reachable anytime and answered my mails prompt. The apartment was great! It was really beautiful and big. It has a perfectly equipped kitchen and there are also a few basics for breakfast and cooking. The bed is very comfortable. It is not that soundproofed as we are accustomed to (the steps from upstairs waked me every day - my son slept well, he did not hear it), but I think that is normal for american houses. But apart from this it is very quiet. The neighbourhood is great! It is very authentic, people are friendly and helpful if required, no problems even late at night. We loved staying there! In any case: apartment, host and neighbourhood are high recommended! If we are in New York again, we certainly return to this place!
Jun 27, 2019Hello! We just spent 5 days in the big apple and we drove in to this Brooklyn location. The host where incredibly attentive and just wonderful, the apartment spotless, hip & modern and really comfortable. Do not be intimidated by the transitioning neighborhood as we encountered that many residents are very friendly and helpful (directions) and this particular street has a real interest in making a real change hence empowering their community. The subway is a little ways (12 to 15 min.) walk. We would use our vehicle to drive to the subway station (there are two corresponding) and park nearby to facilitate the to and from. If you need quick access to the subway at all hours of the day and night this may not be the place for you. The apt. is an excellent value for the money (as per many manhattan locations offer around the same nightly $$ rate but have to share their apt ).
Jun 27, 2019We really had a wonderful time in NYC thanks to Alex’s house. It’s just as big, beautiful and clean as it seems in the pictures. Alex has an incredible apartment in the basement that makes you feel like home after being out all day knowing the big city. All the furniture and the kitchen appliances are new. The location is perfect for visiting Brooklyn and Manhattan (only 15-20 to Brooklyn Bridge and South Manhattan or 25-30 min to Times Square in the underground). Also, Alex gave us some good advices the first day for having all we needed in the neighbourhood. Don’t miss Saraghina’s brunch (10 minutes walking from the house)! He even let us to keep our luggage in the house until we left to the airport in the evening on our last day in the city.
Jun 27, 2019The appartment was really clean, pretty spacious and kitchen was very well equipped! Its totally in line with all the information posted. Alex was very nice host, even allowed us to keep the luggage after check out as we had a flight in the evening. Thank you once again for that! The neighboorhood itself was safe, we had no issues at all, however I`d prefer staying in Brooklyn districts closer to Manhattan area next time as we were travelling to Midtown up to 1h. Being a citizen of the huge city too (Moscow, Russia) , underground is not our favorite place to be :) Overall , it was a great stay.
Jun 27, 2019Communication with Alex was spot on. He happily answered any questions and made it easy for me to arrive late at night and went above and beyond to help me have a good stay. The apartment has been tastefully refurbished. Extremely clean, and with all you could need for cooking. The bed is so comfy. The apartment is peaceful at night and I slept so well. Some noise travels from Alex' apartment upstairs but it is only a little during the day. The area is a bit out of the main hub of Williamsburg and Bushwick but everything is easily accessible with a short walk or the subway about 8 mins walk away. Alex left me a list of great stores, cafes and restaurants in the immediate area. Some people may be concerned about the area at face value as it is a white minority but I felt safe at all times. People seemed friendly.

Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex are wonderful hosts - very accommodating, friendly, and easy to communicate with. We found it fairly easy to get around the city from Bed-Stuy, even with the weekend subway schedule. The apartment is lovely, bright, and very clean, and overall it was a pleasure to stay for a few nights. It's been recently renovated and thoughtfully decorated - we felt quite comfortable during our stay and appreciated the art and other nice touches throughout. I'd highly recommend staying with Shaila and Alex.

Sheila and alex were friendly and the comunication with them was easy.the neighborhood is very nice with typical town house, and very quite. Also the people Who lives there was very kind and helped us on many occasion. Definitely raccommend you to spend your holidays in NY in the lovely apartment of sheila&alex!
Jun 27, 2019We had a great time staying with Alex & Shaila. The apartment is just as depicted in the photos. Lots of space and very comfortable. The house is located really close to buses and subway which was very convenient. The neighbourhood is fine with a couple of nice places to eat nearby. Shaila and alex were really friendly and easy to communicate with if needed. We stayed for 2 months and would recommend it to others who are looking for a place in Brooklyn.
Jun 27, 2019Upon arriving, Alex was very helpful giving directions to the location. , he gave us a brief overview of everything, and let us settle in. It was a very cozy place to come back to after long days out exploring New York. The subways are very close. We preferred heading up to broadway to catch our trains (Depending where we were going) only because it was much more pleasant on sunny days to be above grounds if we could. It was great to have all amenities available, and at such a reasonable price.The only thing I will mention is that if you do plan on sleeping in- it might not happen as they do have a newborn who you can sometimes hear in the morning if you are a light sleeper. Overall, I would recommend you stay at Alex & Shailas airbnb! It was a great and pleasant environment.

Jun 27, 2019The apartment was very clean and spacious. Alex was very friendly and helpful. The subway station was a ten minute walk, the ride to downtown Manhattan is only twenty minutes or so. The only downside is that the neighbourhood does not feel very safe, particularly at nights.
Jun 27, 2019The stay at Alex and Shaila's was great. The apartment has plenty of space. It's also spotless and well decorated (I noticed something new everyday). We used street parking with no problems finding a spot. If your looking to stay in Brooklyn this is the place I'd suggest. The neighborhood is family oriented with a great block party mural on the street. There are several restaurants around but if your looking to go to the park slope or Williamsburg area, I suggest a cab. The subways are not too far away, if you prefer to take them. Lastly, I was concerned about bed-stuy's crime in the past. I'd say those days are behind it. Some areas still have problems but they are far from the apartment and nothing out of the ordinary for a large city. Use your head, and everything will be fine.

The neighborhood was very charming and friendly; there is even a block party mural next to the house! The subway to Manhattan was nearby and am easy commute. The host host was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this rental!
Jun 27, 2019The apartment was fantastically clean, spacious and well furnished. The kitchen is great for people that like too cook at home. The bed was comfortable and spacious. The apartment is in a nice, friendly neighbourhood, is a 10 minute walk from the subway and 30 minutes from central Manhattan. We couldn't have wanted a better place to stay. Highly recommended.

Jul 27, 2019Very spacious and super clean appartment with tasteful furniture. The first two days we weren't sure if the area was safe (didn't feel very safe, especially after dawn) but after a couple of days we felt mor eand more comfortable. Nevertheless, the distance to the nearest subway station was pretty far which makes the appartment not very convenient for Manhatten visits.

Jun 27, 2019Both Shaila and Alex were very welcoming and helpful. The apartment was as the pictures look liked, spacious and cool. We had to throw out some of the grocery's other people left as they were a bit fungy but were left with good intentions. When we arrived on a friday night we hoped we chose a good spot in Brooklyn. It was crowded and noisey and didn't feel safe. When we got up in the morning all things were different, everybody in the street was kind and greeted each other. But hey, you're in New York! The restaurants in the neighborhood are great. Go for a meal to Peaches or Saraghina's, go for a delicious slice of pizza to Daddy Green's on Malcolm X and chill out with a glass of wine at Therapy. Definitely more laid back than in Manhattan. The only thing we would prefer is some carpet of a rug in the backside of their upper apartment. We are both medium sleepers and we woke up every morning when they and their son woke up, who is adorable though. In the end we had a great stay for a reasonable price!!

It was very easy to Communicator with Alex - all questions have been answered quickly and we got all the Information we needed and more. Highly recommended!
Jun 27, 2019Really enjoyed our stay at Alex and Shaila's apartment. It was clean, spacious, well-equipped and situated in a pretty and quiet neighbourhood. Alex kindly gave us some recommendations for nearby establishments and the ones we went to were great, our faves were Saraghina and Peaches Hot House. The apartment is about a 10-15 walk to the subway and from there was about 20 mins on a train into Manhattan. The only small negative was a slightly creaky bed but overall we loved staying here and highly recommend it to others visiting NYC. Thanks Shaila and Alex!
Jun 27, 2019The apartment was great. It looked exactly as on the pictures and it was very clean. They definitely made an effort in furnishing and decorating this place. Very cool. Shaila and Alex had been very pleasant and helpful to us. They prepared a little guide with handy tips for their neighborhood. It was easy to get the keys even as they were out of town when we arrived. In the apartment as well as in the neighborhood we felt safe all the time.
Jun 27, 2019O apartamento é exatamente como mostrado nas fotos. Claro, acolhedor e a cama é super-confortável. Shaila e Alex são muito simpáticos e prestativos. O bairro é seguro, com vizinhança tranquila. O apartamento não é tão perto do metrô, mas isso só é problema em dias de chuva (mas nada que um quarda-chuva não resolva). Recomendo. The apartment is exactly as shown in the pictures. And of course, cozy and the bed is very comfortable. Shaila and Alex are very nice and helpful. The neighborhood is safe with neighbors quiet. The apartment is not too close to the subway, but it's just a problem in rainy days (it's not a big deal, an umbrella can help you). Higly recommend.

The apartment is super clean, spacious and comfortable. It is incredibly well set up with everything you could need. This is also a super location and gives you another sense of NY beyond the Manhattan experience. Highly recommend staying here and would love to come back!
Jun 27, 2019Es war ein wahrhaft perfekter Urlaub in einer wunderschönen Stadt und besonders bei sehr, sehr guten Gastgebern! Shaila und Alex haben nichts zu wünschen übrig gelassen: es war alles sauber die Schlüsselübergabe hat problemlos geklappt, Alex hat uns alles erklärt, wir bekamen einen Neighborhood-Guide persönlich angefertigt von beiden! Man könnte noch viele weitere positive Sachen finden und aufzählen, aber das soll es für hier gewesen sein :) Unterm Strich kann ich allen nur empfehlen hier zu übernachten wenn man einen NYC Trip plant. Seriös, hilfsbereit und immer(!) erreichbar - so macht AirBnB Spaß!
Jun 27, 2019Staying in bedstuy was an absolutely wonderful. The neighborhood bias clean, not to loud, and had plenty available via bus, train, or if you got the legs to walk. The place was warm, modern, and cozy. The bed was slightly too squeaky and the baby upstairs running around didn't help much. The kitchen was nicely sized to have a great dinner. The bathroom was clean and just right to get the job done. It just so happen to snow while we were there and the backyard was perfect for the snowball fight.
Jun 27, 2019Alex was a wonderful host! He made sure we were set and comfortable right at the start. Myself and my girlfriend enjoyed the place since it is comfortable for two people only. I did wish only a few things which is an upgraded bed ( felt comfortable but the frame felt like it was ready to snap lol ) it was a daily adventure to sleep on a risky level and secondly would be the options of having more kitchenware (more pans, larger coffee cups, etc) we cooked at the place most of the time since we were on a budget and all. With that said, we had everything else we needed which is great! I recommend Alex's place to anyone of course.

They were very generous to lend us a pack & play, stroller and toys for our 11 month old, which made travelling with a baby such a breeze. The neighbourhood was really interesting, the people were friendly, and we would love to stay again.
Jun 27, 2019Alex and Shaila were awesome! We survived the New York "blizzard" (ha!) here and were happy to hunker down in such a big space. It's a lovely spot, just as pictured, and the bed is super comfy. I'd say the only drawback is that you are on the ground floor with the sound traveling a good deal through the ceiling from the apartment above (where Alex and Shaila live with their adorable 2-year-old). So when the little tike is running around above you, you know it. Not a big deal, just something you might want to know. Overall, great experience and really good value for this place.
Jun 27, 2019Alex & Shaila were brilliant hosts! They were so helpful with info. about the area & even helped us order take out because we couldn't use our UK phones! The area was lovely, a little bit out of busy Brooklyn (Williamsburg etc.) but this was easily accessible by bus (20-30min total journey). You can see the area is really up & coming with some lovely little eateries, a wine bar and a bakery all 10 mins walk from the stay. Alex & Shaila were helpful in pointing these out. We were really happy with our stay and would not hesitate to recommend or even stay again ourselves.

Jun 27, 2019Alex was a good host. He made sure we were well settled in from the start and provided us with a small guide of his favourite places around Bed-Stuy (restos, bars, cafes, etc.). The place was exactly as described and as pictured. Very nice place, modern stove that was awesome to cook with, and comfortable bed after long days of roaming around NYC. My boyfriend and I were traveling to Manhattan and within Brooklyn, and public transit was not a problem. We also never felt in danger coming back at night. You will definitely hear their toddler running around and playing on the above floor but it was not a big issue for us. Also, the kitchen equipment was of very good quality, but not high in number (for example, only the necessary pots were available, which was sufficient for us). Overall, we were very happy with our stay.

Jun 27, 2019Alex and Shaila were brilliant hosts, helpful, easy to contact and friendly. They lent us a cot, baby bath and toys for our small son, which were much appreciated. The apartment is as stylish as pictured and is spotlessly clean, with nice quirky details. Electric appliances in particular are top quality if you cook in the apartment. The area is cool with useful shops and restaurants, and the A train goes straight into the heart of Manhattan in about 30 minutes. Two mild things to note: as a previous reviewer said you can hear footfall and noise from the apartment above but that didn't bother us, and there were some ants in the kitchen/main room, but it is on the ground floor so no biggy. Jun 27, 2019What you see is what you get!!! In de wijk Brooklyn een ruim, schoon appartement. Voor vragen konden we altijd bij onze gastheer Alex terecht. We hadden het fijn gevonden als we na een dag stad een plekje in de tuin hadden kunnen krijgen. Het was even wennen aan de vnl. zwarte wijk. Iedereen vriendelijk en we voelden ons op ons gemak. Door de goede bus- en metroverbindingen is Manhattan op ruim een half uur reizen bereikbaar.
Jun 27, 2019Nous avons été très surpris du voisinage très peu accueillant voire peu rassurant, le soir. La station de métro est à 10 minutes à pied, ce qui nécessite de traverser des quartiers pas très bien fréquentés. L'accueil d'Alex a été cordial. L'appartement était relativement propre et bien entretenu. Beaucoup de bruits, tard le soir et tôt le matin, difficile de bien dormir si vous avez le sommeil léger (mauvaise insonorisation).
Jun 27, 2019El apartamento es precioso,limpio y con todo lo que se necesita. Alex fue muy simpatico y servicial. Tiene el metro cerca, la linea a que te deja en el centro. Estuvimos 1 semana y fue todo genial. Si es cierto que al estar debajo se oyen ruidos al caminar pero no era muy molesto.
Jun 27, 2019L'appartement est propre et tout à fait conforme aux photos et à sa description. L'appartement est très spacieux et la cuisine très bien équipée même si je n'ai pas vraiment eu l'occasion de m'en servir. A savoir qu'il n'y a pas de volets aux fenêtres si vous aimez dormir dans le noir (mais peut être que c'est partout aux US), aussi on entends les bruits du dessus ou vivent Alex & Shaila. Je ne les ai croisés qu'une fois et ils sont très sympa et arrangeants (j'ai pu laisser ma valise le dernier jour car mon avion était tard). Le quartier est très résidentiel et il n'y a pas beaucoup de choses à y faire. Alex & Shaila avaient préparé un petit guide de quoi faire aux alentours mais je n'ai pas forcément eu l'occasion de l'utiliser. Le quartier peut paraître peut accueillant au début mais je n'ai jamais été embêtée. On m'a conseillé de ne pas rentrer seule de nuit, j'ai donc suivi ce conseil mais je ne sais pas si ça craignait vraiment... La ligne de métro A est à 5-10min à pieds elle est plutôt pratique car il s'agit d'une ligne express. En taxi depuis la 5ème avenue (niveau 50eme) il faut compter environ 30$ pour rentrer, les taxis ne veulent pas toujours y aller car ils ne connaissent pas très bien Brooklyn alors que c'est très simple (sachez qu'il est normalement interdit aux taxis de vous refuser)

The space was perfect for us - very clean with good facilities and comfortable beds, and only minutes to walk to the subway. Jun 27, 2019Amazing experience at the apartment, really big space and comfy bed, great kitchen living space with all the equipment and much needed air con units! Area of Brooklyn is good, sometimes can be a little loud with music in surrounding houses. Be prepared to be woken early with noise from above apartment. felt safe never had any problems, really quick walk to Utica Av (A) subway straight to Manhatten in 25 mins, little longer back in the evenings, subway full even at 11/12 at night. Check in and out process was easy and we were left good New York guides and neighbourhood guides. Loved the whole experience!
Jun 27, 2019The pictures are exactly what you see when you go in. Very cool decoration, and spacious. The bed is very comfortable and cozy. Alex was very helpful and had great restaurants suggestions. There is great organic and locally grown cafe/lunch/dinner and market just two blocks away from the apartment. A few minutes walk from the subway. We enjoyed our stay.

Jun 27, 2019We had a great time staying in the apartment. It had everything we needed and was a short walk to the A train express. It is a great place to stay if you want to explore Brooklyn and check out the local spots, as well as having easy access to Manhattan. We didn't notice much noise from above, though the bed is a little creaky. Some great bars and restaurants nearby, we recommend Peaches, doughnuts from Dough, tacos from Oaxaca and Glorietta Baldy for beer/cocktails. Great value for NYC!

Jun 27, 2019Nice apartment in good location near subway stations so it was easy to get to/from Manhattan and also JFK. Shaila and Alex provided a really useful guide to the local area with eating and drinking recommendations. We found a couple that could possibly be added to that list! Manny's on the corner of Macon St and Patchen Ave is great for breakfast, and Daddy Green's on Malcolm X Blvd does amazing pizza.
Jun 27, 2019Alex was helpful and responsive. I landed at the La Guardia airport early in the morning and asked him to leave my bags about at 9 am. He kindly said, yes. When I arrived his house, he warmly welcomed and tried to teach how to reach downtown and other places. The house was big enough for two people but little bit small bathroom. Overall, I liked the house, except unhygienic towels and a huge insect I saw.

Jun 27, 2019Alex was very helpful and friendly - his guide is great and he let us leave our luggage for our last day so we didn't have to carry it round. The flat is exactly as you see it in the pictures and the street is beautiful and we found the neighbourhood very friendly. Saraghina just down the road has amazing cocktails and the best pizzas we've ever had! The subway was really full every time we got it but it's a good place to explore from if you want a quiet place to come back to. Sadly we were really unhappy about two things: the bed, which we found really uncomfortable - it also squeaked like crazy and seemed like it was about to fall apart. Also (you could argue we should have read the reviews better) there was a lot of noise from upstairs from 7.30 in the morning. Being on holiday, this was pretty annoying! Obviously we understand that it can't be totally soundproof but at points it sounded like someone was trying to hammer through the roof. So you should definitely be aware that you won't be getting a lie in!
Jun 27, 2019Since the beginning Shaila & Alex were very kind with me. They answered all my questions very fast. The apartment is exactly what you see in the pictures. The bed is very comfortable and the kitchen is pretty good to make some food after an exhausting day. The neighborhood is good and safety. The best thing is that the apartment is near by 2 subway stations and even in the winter is easy to get there. I totally recommend for you to stay there. Tips: if you have problems with noise to sleep, take with you some ear plugs - the apartment is on the bottom where the family lives and they wake up early, so you can hear the steps.
Jun 27, 2019Mouldy food in the fridge. Dishwasher full of dirty dishes. Come home to Sheila in the apartment on our second day and was obviously not expecting us home, she was flustered and said there was a bad smell in the cupboard before we had arrived she was trying to get rid of. It clearly states that if they needed to access the basement which the door is in the apartment we were in they would give plenty of notice but we hadn't got anything except to our surprise when we walked in the door everything was open and she was roaming around. It was a massive invasion of privacy. We had our stuff everywhere obviously just getting off a long flight and wanting to get straight out. I had a few packages which I had told them well in advance that they would be arriving and to hold onto them. One was open when I recieved them, even though it clearly had my name on it and they had been expecting them. Alex is up at crazy hours doing dishes and walking around which sounds like an elephant clashing plates right next to your ears. The noise travels and is super loud. To be woken up at between 12 and 3am every night was becoming a joke. We kindly went up to ask to keep it down as the kitchen is obviously right above the bedroom he was super rude and tried telling us no one was up. But then the next day said he was up at that time. They obviously have no idea how loud it really is. And to be disturbed every single night. Who is up at 1am clashing dishes around honestly. Then you can never sleep in and make up for the broken sleep as the child is up screaming running and thudding so loud at 7am Day 5 Alex come down as someone was knocking on out door apparently to check the electricals No warning just entered and barged straight through the door and I had just gotten out of the shower. Again massive invasion of privacy! Our last night we thought we would get a proper rest for once before our flight, to my surprise wheelie bins were being dragged and rubbish bags going through it was so loud I thought there was a homeless person rummaging through the trash, nope just Alex at 1230 in the morning making more noise right out our window. I think it was becoming entertainment for him haha such a joke I have honestly never experienced anything like this and if I had read a review that explained how noisy it was from above and that you can literally hear word for word the conversations had I would have passed straight past the ad.

We enjoyed staying at Shaila and Alex's apt very much - the listing was just as described and it was a lovely way to spend a few days. Although we didn't get to meet our hosts, they were still very much involved in ensuring that our stay was comfortable. Every concern we had was addressed within the hour. The apt has such a simple and carefree personality. It's the perfect place to relax in after a day of exploring the city. The only downside about the stay was the wifi connection. It was a little difficult to connect, as the signal was weak. However, the nearby Saraghina has a great wifi connection and amazing food.

The space is clean and spacious. Great home base if most of your time will be spent in Brooklyn. Great to be near the A and C train. Neighborhood beautiful with lots of great places to eat. Only downside was hearing walking through the ceiling above, which is hard to avoid in NYC apartments.

Jun 27, 2019We had a great stay at Alex and Shalia's! The apt is located in a nice neighborhood with lots of markets, coffee hops and restaurants. Prior to our stay Alex sent us a detailed email about where to go and what to do during our stay. It was so helpful and we referred back to it a lot! The only thing that was a minor set back was the noise. Upstairs and outside... It was super loud. Luckily, we are used to it because we live in an 100 year old apt in a busy neighborhood back home, but I could see it being an issue for someone not used to it. Shalia and Alex do provide earplugs though, so that I can imagine would be helpful. Other then that, Alex is very, VERY good at communication! He responded to me quickly when I asked if we could leave our bags longer on our last day! We were so happy about the flexibility of him letting us do that and quick response! Thanks again for hosting a great experience for us! Next time we are on the east coast, we would definitely want to stay at your place again!

Jun 27, 2019L'appartement correspond exactement à ce qui est décrit dans l'annonce. Il est grand, propre et on s'y sent en sécurité. Le lit est très confortable, mais il y a du bruit à l'étage (nous avons compris l'utilité des boules Quies qui se trouvent sur la table de chevet). Nous n'avons rencontré qu'Alex, qui s'est montré disponible, et qui a toujours été réactif lorsque nous préparions notre voyage à New York pour répondre à nos questions. L'appartement se trouve à 10 min à pied des stations Kosciusko St et Utica Av, ce qui est très pratique pour visiter la ville. Le quartier est calme, les habitants accessibles et disponibles pour répondre à nos questions, et nous avions pris nos habitudes au Trade Union Cafe sur Malcolm X Blvd (que nous recommandons!), sur le chemin du métro.
Jun 27, 2019We were disappointed with Shaila and Alex's apartment. When signing up they sent a great guide to the area and when we arrived the flat was clean, spacious and modern. However, the kitchen is above the bedroom and the back garden right beside it. Noise travels very easily in the apartment and we therefore struggled to sleep past 8/9am most mornings. We also had an unannounced visit despite being told notice would be given in advance if access to the basement was needed. Shaila and Alex thought we were out (but we were in bed) and came into the flat 2 seconds after knocking. No notice was given, if it had we would have been ok with it as this is what it states in the description. The wifi is also pretty poor. When staying you are a guest on their home network and they have obviously limited the connection. We did message them and they tried to fix it but if you are looking to stream anything it means a lot of buffering. The network also kicks you of periodically.
Jun 27, 2019We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is under 10mins away from an express stop subway station which saved us time. The photos are pretty accurate. The place is spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. Shaila and Alex were quick to reply to emails and very helpul. We tried some of their recommended restaurants and they were amazing. We also recommend Trade Union cafe on the way to the station. If you don't mind having to travel about half an hour into the city, this place would be great. Plus, it's really close to Williamsburg and Brooklyn Heights. Thanks Shaila and Alex.

We never met the hosts in person because the arrival and departure instructions were very clear. But we felt they were readily available and easy to contact, if needed.

Hinta-laatusuhde oli hyvä, sijainti oli hieman kaukana Manhattanista (n 50min metrolla) mutta sopi meidän tarpeisiimme hyvin.

Jun 27, 2019Very nice and spacious apartment in an up-coming area in Brooklyn. Getting to and from Manhattan / Brooklyn is very easy, as it's well connected to the A/J lines, and the first Citibike stop is five Blocks away. Communications with Alex were very easy, always good to reach them in case needed. Can definitely recommend this for a longer stay in the new York area.

Ils ont répondu tout de suite à ma demande et m'ont tout de suite guidée et envoyer les informations nécessaires pour préparer mon arrivée, et durant mon séjour sur place. J'ai passé un séjour très très confortable chez Shaîla et Alex . Ce sont des hôtes généreux , l'appartement est propre, joli, très agréable . Il est situé proche de plusieurs lignes de métro , ce qui facilite les déplacements. Il y a beaucoup d'épiceries autour de l'appartement et le quartier est très agréable ainsi que les voisins qu'on y (Website hidden by Airbnb) recommande vraiment cette adresse pour votre séjour à New York.

Jun 27, 2019The flat was clean and the communication was great from the hosts. I would recommend if you wanted somewhere to just sleep. Area was good ( I recommend taxis as it is rough around the edges) great stay the only thing I would say is in the flat is freezing and only little heaters to keep warm. Also the noise from upstairs was very loud to the point you could hear full conversations. I really loved my stay however my friend did leave early due to being ill with the cold. Great wee find in the city of Brooklyn
Jun 27, 2019We were really lucky to find Shaila & Alex's place available. It was a lovely apartment, plenty of room and had everything we needed. Great to have such a large fridge and oven so we could make breakfast. The shower is powerful and hot, the bed big and comfy - perfect. It did get chilly so Alex had kindly left us 2 heaters, which was great. The location is brilliant. We were there during election time so went to a local bar to commiserate and watch the results unfold, highly recommend Peaches for late night drinks and a comfy sofa. We also LOVED Saraghina for delicious Italian (not the cheapest but soooo good) and great coffee/pastries can be found at George-Andres Vintage cafe. All 3 of these are a 10min walk from the apartment. Would stay here again!

Jun 27, 2019Alex and Shaila's place is a nice, clean, friendly, and adequately furnished place to stay. Bus and rail nearby is a real plus. Do try the brunch at L'Antagoniste if you get a chance ! Yummy and not terribly expensive. ( don't EVEN slow down for Crown Fried Chicken, though ! just keep on walking ! ) Noise from the apartment overhead is a problem ( early in the morning ! ) and we encountered a couple of characters on the street that gave us pause, though, only pause. Other than that; nice place, nice folks, fair price. Do it.
Jun 27, 2019Love Brooklyn and Bed Stuy. Apartment was cheap in price. But uncomfortable. I wish I had paid for more comfort. Kitchen not well equipped. No coffee filters or paper towels for example. Freezer full of food? Trash in cabinets. Dishwasher full of dishes when we arrived. Bed was not very comfortable. Pillows were painfully flat. Like sacks of grain. Actually rolled up blankets and stuffed into pillow cases to sleep. Lots of towels were appreciated. We only used 4 but there were a dozen or more. But worst... The noise from the owners above was excessive. Little feet early in the morning but that I could excuse... We were anxious to get up and at the city in the morning. But the noise at night was bad... One night it lasted til after 1:30. Terrible noises

Jun 27, 2019We had a great stay in Shaila & Alex's place, the apartment matches perfectly the description. The whole place was clean, well-appointed, and some new extra products were available. They have been very welcoming, and made sure that we felt comfortable. Well located between 2 subway stations, so it's pretty easy to go to Manhattan, or to move elsewhere in Brooklyn. Good tuck shop and grocer's shop very close too, and great restaurants too (Peaches was amazing!). If you are looking for a place to spend a week visiting NYC, do not hesitate, here is your place.
Jun 27, 2019There were a few options on our radar when we booked our trip for NYC but we made a great choice with Shaila and Alex! The house was easy to find and we were lucky to get parking right in front. Word to the wise, the street does have scheduled times for street cleaning during the week but there are plenty of signs. We emailed Shaila and Alex with questions about parking as well, just to be sure, and they were very prompt with a response. The private entrance is nice and really makes you feel like you're in your own home. Check in was extremely easy. We didn't have much face to face contact until the last day but we'll get to that. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised by the space. We were offered a nice couch, a spacious kitchen area with a fridge for our many leftovers, a bedroom with a comfortable bed and lots of pillows, and a bathroom with a functioning and clean shower. The only thing we wanted for was a tv but we figured we were on vacation so it was like a blessing in disguise. The decor was nice and the place was warm and clean. The neighborhood was about how you would expect it. Nice and affordable places to eat and a lovely coffee shop nearby that made the most delicious Nutella lattes. Peaches offers amazing fried chicken, the pizza (BKLYN I think it was called) was shockingly great and arrived quickly. Access to the subway was about a 10 minute walk so nothing too extreme. On our last day, however, Stella decided she was going to dump snow all over the city. We were in a rush to get the car packed and head out before the city went into total lockdown mode and accidentally locked ourselves out of the apartment. Another piece of advice, the door locks behind you automatically. I'm sure we could've fixed that but for security purposes, it seemed like a smart decision on Alex and Shaila's part. What could've ended terribly was a very easy fix. Maybe it was because they were snowed in but both offered assistance and we were out on the road in no time! They were even kind enough to warn us the day before (via email) that we were going to get hit with a snow storm and expressed concern that we were planning to drive through it. Nice people, great place, just remember that a family lives upstairs so try to keep the noise down (they never said anything about noise but just as a courtesy). Thanks!!!

Jun 27, 2019this place was amazing because my partner and i are vegan and soo many place popped up when looking for places to eat. the metro wasnt a far walk and the corner stores have everything you need. this place was cozy and looks great! though we didnt spend to much inside, the place was awesome! shaila and alex were great hosta and always checking up if you need anything!

Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex's apartment is the perfect place if you want to enjoy Brooklyn, furthermore subway stations are very close and you can reach Manhattan in no more than 30 minutes. We fell in love with the neighborhood... I don't want to say anything more as you have to discover it! The apartment is spacious and well equipped, the living room and the bedroom are even bigger than you can imagine from the pictures. We only had some problems with the check-in as the hosts forgot about our arrival but they sorted out immediately and made sure that we felt comfortable.

El Barrio durante la semana es tranquilo los fines puede ser un poco ruidosos por el vecindario. Alex estuvo siempre a disposición y fue muy amable con nosotros . El departamento es muy lindo , tiene todos los elementos de cocina necesarios . Volvería a ir !

The only thing is that the neighbourhood is not that quiet. Cars parked in the streets with music till late in night. But except that, it's a great place.

Some downfalls were the upstairs noise and the outside rowdiness, but we were given ear plugs, which was a nice thought. The neighborhood can be questionable at night, although no one bothered us, we were very cautious walking about. Not sure if it was us or the machine, but not until our last night, the AC wouldn't cool down below 74. This sounds cool, but on a day where it reached 90, we woke up sweating. The location is close to public transportation and little cafes. About a 40 minutes ride to time square and 30 minutes to Williamsburg area. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were the softest I've ever felt! Would recommend.

Jun 27, 2019Brooklyn easily became one of my new favorite places on this trip, Shaila and Alex were great hosts, and were accepting of our super late check in due to flight delays getting in, and were great communicators, even greeted us when we got dropped off. The suite is a short walk to the nearest train station which got us easily to Yankee Stadium and back without incident. Lots of good food in the neighborhood and lots of craft coffee choices. (Trade Union Coffee is AMAZING). I will stay here again!

We highly appreciated all the great advice for restaurants etc. in the area. The neighborhood was a bit more questionable than we expected. The street is very dirty and there was loud music, neighbors fighting and screaming at all hours of the day. The apartment is also not very well sound isolated and you can hear absolutely everything from the apartment above. Air condition was also very loud so you can't use it at night. This is not the place for you if you want to sleep in and are looking for a quiet place, but for us it was perfectly fine.
Jun 27, 2019The apartment is in a friendly and calm area, 15 mn distance from subway to manhattan center. The apartment is in perfect conditions with a full equipped kitchen and really nice shower. Supermarket really near open every day. Shaila and Alex made us a perfect guide for the neighborhood with all the details needed. It was a very pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

Jun 27, 2019I would definitely recommend staying at Shaila & Alex’s place, especially if you’re looking for a stylishly simple and Inexpensive stay. The area is right in Brooklyn, surrounded by trees and livelihood. They allowed us to check in early which was awesome and we were also provided an entire list on the countless things that could be done around the city. Upon returning to New York, Shaila & Alex’s place will be one of the first on my list.

Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex's place is comfortable and affordable. We loved the location - it's an easy walk to a couple different subway stations, and there are some great dining options nearby. Also loved having a full kitchen; though we didn't cook a full meal, it was great to be able to make coffee and heat up leftovers when we wanted to. Would definitely stay there again!

Jun 27, 2019Check in/out was a breeze. We arrived to NY on a snowy day, and the place was clean and warm. The bed was comfortable and the blankets were warm. The place is about 10 min away from two train stops, so it was easy to navigate the city.
Jun 27, 2019We stayed here between Christmas and New Year. ♫ The weather outside was frightful ♫ but Shaila and Alex's downstairs apartment was a nice little retreat. We ordered in regularly from a great selection of places. We didn't get the chance to meet Shaila and Alex but they were attentive to our messages and showed kindness and understanding. The apartment was nice and comfortable. There is a little bit of a walk to get to the train stations to get to Manhattan but even in the cold, ten minutes wassn't too troublesome. There was also a bit of confusion about the colours of the keys described to us but once that was figured out we had no problems. Thanks Shaila and Alex.

Jun 27, 2019What a spot! Everything is so clean and neat. The spot is incredibly big for New York. Check-in was very simple, as soon as I found the home. The bed is heavenly and the showerhead is the appropriate height especially if you’re over 6 ft it helps. Clean towels, hairdryer, even razors and shaving cream had I needed it. Beautifully decorated with art and nice furniture and there was no trouble getting transportation service.

But also it was really noisy every night we were woken up by someone walking upstairs every night afrer 1:30 Am and was really uncomfortable and also woken up every morning by noise from upstairs . But over it is good place.

Manhattan ist durch die Subway schnell zu erreichen und in Brooklyn kann man sich dann wieder von den Touristenhorden erholen. Die Wohnung ist angenehm und praktisch und sogar Grundnahrungsmittel waren da. Die Gastgeber haben wir nicht persönlich getroffen, sie waren per Email aber immer ansprechbar.

Jun 27, 2019We had a great time in NYC and the apartment was really nice. Great restaurant recos especially Trade Union Cafe and Grandchamps! The distance to metro (bus is with metrocard for free to get to the metro) and Manhattan is absolutely ok. The apartment is clean and well-equipped! Unfortunately as any house in the US it is not that soundproofed. So when the family gets up in the morning you need to get earplugs (which are provided). Thank you Shaila&Alex for hosting us!

Jul 27, 2019A friend and I met in NYC for a girls’ trip and decided that, to save money, we would stay in Brooklyn instead of Manhattan. We were a little nervous about how it would be with the daily travel into the city and how safe it would be. It turned out to be the best decision for us. We needed up falling in love with the area and got to see a side of NYC living that we would have missed if we had stayed in the city. Alex was so great- he answered all our questions and gave us great recommendations for places to eat (please don’t miss Saraghina- their pizza was the best we’ve ever had). We even got to be there for a neighborhood block party which was really fun to see. The trip into the city was not bad at all. They house is near a subway station. The only downside was that on the weekends the subway stops change and we had to take a Lyft home on those nights (we couldn’t figure out the changed schedule). We would definitely stay here again.
Jun 27, 2019We had a great stay. Shaila and Alex’s local tips and tricks were fab, we went to most places on the list and were really pleased with all of them, especially Saraghina... we went twice! Shaila and Alex always responds def quickly to any questions. The place was spacious, clean and plenty big enough for two. It also had natural daylight with is always important in the city. Transport links are a short walk away, with an express train running regularly to Manhattan. This was my first time in NYC and I loved getting to know part of Brooklyn as well as touring Manhatten’s sights. Would definitely stay again.

Jun 27, 2019We had a great stay at Shaila&Alex' apartment! They answered all our questions very fast and gave great and helpful tips for the neighbourhood. The apartment is very big, very clean and there was everything one would need in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom... (e.g. towels, soap, dishes etc.). The subway is only 5-10 minutes away and you can reach Manhattan quickly. But we also really enjoyed staying in Brooklyn and getting to know this cool neighbourhood. We would definitely stay here again!

Position is in a quite place in Brooklyn, outside chaos in Manhattan, people in that place is very nice. there're more tube station near house, confortable for move in the city center. Sheila & Alex are very fast to answer me for everything. House is clean and very roomy and there's all necessary to leave it. I'm happy to my choice.

Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex’s place was much bigger than my sister and I had expected. It was the perfect, warm and cozy home to come back to after exploring the city in late November. There are a ton of good restaurants nearby and the subway is a short 12-ish minute walk away. Brooklyn ended up being our favorite part of our vacation so it was awesome to be near Dumbo/Brooklyn Bridge Area (instead of staying in Manhattan). Great value and super communicative hosts! Would totally stay with them again :)

The location is really cool and with the comprehensive local guide provided by Shaila and Alex, we were able to check out cool bars, cafes and restaurants. The location is a close walk to a subway station that you can take to Manhattan. We really enjoyed exploring Brooklyn as well. The space is lovely and the bed was so comfortable - the perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. Highly recommend and we hope to return one day :)
Jun 27, 2019Shaila and Alex’s place was just as expected! It was clean and very spacious. It is in a good neighborhood and it seemed to be safe, we didn’t have any issues. As stated by other guests, the noise was the only issue we encountered. You can hear upstairs tenants walking around early in the morning and late at night.

Jun 27, 2019What a great apartment! Cute and VERY spacious for the city. A bit of a walk to the trains. The closest line is about a 12 minute walk. The only major inconvenience is the noise from the apartment above. You can hear EVERYTHING, which is really only a problem in the morning. Otherwise, it’s a great place to stay for a great value!
