From the moment we arrived until we left we LOVED our experience here! Not only did the hosts go above and beyond by decorating the house beautifully (they even set up a Christmas tree!) but they were prompt to respond to any needs or questions we had about the house (we were lucky enough to have Stanton come over and tell us about the rich history of the house and the family that built it). It is the perfect place if you love having a quiet retreat with gorgeous views and plenty of space to relax and take in the Hawaiian natural environment. Because we were here for Christmas vacation we did a lot of cooking and the appliances are all top of the line. The sleeping space is very comfortable in two of the bedrooms; the third bedroom has a pullout mattress that would work well for kids, but probably not ideal for most adults.
Jun 27, 2019Our hosts Stan and Bruce were welcoming and accommodating. They were quick to respond to our needs and inquiries. Quite a unique experience to have stayed in their beautifully restored historic home. Ample space with large rooms to comfortably accommodate our family of 3 adults and 3 teens. The electric fireplace was a nice touch on chilly January nights. The views were breathtaking! Great location !
Jun 27, 2019It was a small surprise that the tap water was not potable but the drinking water is delivered to your doorstep everyday.. There were a few geckos living inside(?)
Jun 27, 2019This is a very large, updated historic home. It is perfect if you want to be a little distance from the city. There are hiking trails and a state park nearby. The kitchen is nicely furnished with modern appliances. The beds had nice linens and were comfortable. Our group was there to visit a relative who happens to live on the same road so it was very convenient for us. It is rather far from groceries, restaurants, tourist sights, etc. There is a beautiful view of Diamond Head and the city, especially at night. There is no TV but some other electronic equipment which we did not attempt to use. The owners are very cordial and helpful.
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful home with gorgeous views. Very responsive, kind and helpful hosts. Extremely highly recommended!
Jun 27, 2019Great views. Secluded. Responsive host lives near by.
Jun 27, 2019This historic home perched on a glorious hilltop overlooks Diamond Head and the ocean with views from every room. From the moment we arrived we were comfortable and happy. Our hosts were exceptional, the house is inviting, comfortable and has a terrific kitchen, and the little touches make you feel at home. Could not more highly recommend this hidden gem, but almost hate to share it because it is so wonderful. If you want a hideaway away from the crowds and traffic, if you love nature and hiking, birds singing and your own slice of paradise, this is your place.
Jun 27, 2019Staying at the Wilder House is an opportunity to experience living in a historical Hawaian home, with the perks of a modern kitchen and baths. Located high on a quiet mountainside, it offers spectacular views of Diamond Head and Waikiki. The location provides a beautiful relaxing retreat, but is only 15 minutes away from the city.
Jun 27, 2019Stanton and Bruce’s home is a rare and special find. We were in awe of the views, constantly changing with the prevailing winds. A fabulous home with even more fabulous hosts. I will stay there again!
Jun 27, 2019Staying at the Wilder House is an experience. The history will grab you. The beauty will enthrall you. Peace will overcome you. The daily, intense rainbow will delight you. You will sleep deeply in the cool mountain air. The house will fulfill your every need. When you’re done with the hustle bustle, heavy traffic, crowded tourist spots, you come “home” to a home that is quiet, peaceful, breathtakingly beautiful. The view of Diamond Head will greet you every morning. The birds will amuse you and the gardens will occupy you for hours as you notice tropical beauty on tropical beauty. Read the book provided by Stanton and Bruce called “The Wilders of Waikiki .” You will be immersed in the intricate intertwining of the Wilders into the workings and government of Hawaii, first with the royalty and then with the territorial government. You get swept up in the parties held at the house in the clouds. You realize how important the people that lived there were and now you are living there for your vacation. In this house you are a resident. A part of its history. Important to it living on by the energy you bring. I will come back to the Wilder House hoping it remembers my energy and welcomes me again. I’ll gladly drive up the mountain with its hair raising, hair pin turns and drop off cliffs. The higher you go, the more rain forest you twist through. You see bamboo, eucalyptus, orchids, vines and banyons seemingly holding up the forest canopy. It’s a world separated from the usual reality. I hope you decide to stay at the Wilder House. You will be very happy with the experience. It’s as far from a hotel room you could ever get. ALOHA OE
Jun 27, 2019This place is unique with spacious rooms and areas for various activities. you would want to spend more time here to enjoy visiting with your friends and family. The views are spectacular. A very nice place to stay for the value.
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful location with unmatched views. Plenty of room inside. Spotless rooms and complete cooking supplies. Washer/dryer much appreciated after traveling. Site matched or exceeded its description and photos.
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful home. Spacious. Airy. Incredible views. Wonderful hosts. This place is a real gem!
Jun 27, 2019After a long flight from New Zealand, this beautiful historic house was a delight - comfortable, clean, interesting decor and all the extras to make our stay relaxing and comfortable. The house restorations have added to what was a stunning place to begin with, with lots of quiet spaces for reading, amazing views, and a lovely section to explore. We were traveling with a 2 year old, and he just loved the house and the garden. Stanton & Bruce are charming and interesting hosts, who added special touches to our visit. We thoroughly recommend this as an oasis away from the bustle of Honolulu, yet very accessible.
Jun 27, 2019Stanton and Bruce's historic house is incredible and breathtaking. My family and I absolutely loved it and truly appreciated the house's majestic mountain surroundings. In addition to the priceless views that the house offers, Stanton and Bruce are wonderful and gracious hosts. They were attentive to our needs and immediately responded to any inquiries / requests we had.
Jun 27, 2019This may be the best place to stay in all of Honolulu. The house is jaw droppingly beautiful with a storied history in every corner and with views of the valley and ocean that are one of a kind. Stanton is a caring host, ready to fix problems, tell stories, and share genuine hospitality as the situation arises. It really would be impossible to overstate what an incredible house and caring, thoughtful host this proved to be. Much thanks for the amazing stay!
Jun 27, 2019World Class location! Spectacular views! Caring hosts! Historic, comfortable home! Hawai'i doesn't get any better. This location, high up on curvy Round Top Drive, will give you the best of both worlds: an historical home, once owned by the scions of Waikiki, kept in close to original condition, yet with all the updates one needs to fully enjoy the house, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Honolulu, yet a quick drive to any venue in the area. Shower in soft rainwater while looking out at the lush foliage surrounding the house. Sit on the meditation bench on the terraced yard while observing the grandeur of Diamond Head and Waikiki. Watch the beautiful tropical birds, including bright green parrots, as they flit through the trees. Your stay at The Wilder House will be one of the most memorable you will have in Hawai'i!
Jun 27, 2019Great views and super neat house. Loved the sunroom and the giant lounger in the living room.
Jun 27, 2019The superlative reviews that other guests have written about this place and it’s hosts are all spot on. I doubt there is a better Airbnb location in all of Hawaii.
Jun 27, 2019This home was unbelievably beautiful and the perfect place for our family retreat. With the views and privacy that it offers, we didn't want to leave! It is even better than all of the photos and all of the living and personal spaces are beautifully maintained and historic. What a treat to be able to walk the same steps as others have for over 100 years. We will be back!
Jun 27, 2019An opportunity to stay at Stanton's house should not be missed! The house has been impeccably restored and cared for with modern comforts added to the historic charm. Walking into the house and catching the view is absolutely breathtaking! The house is only a short drive from town (and Lyft accessible!) but feels worlds apart from the chaos of Waikiki. It is the perfect space to share family meals, bird watch, write your next novel, or simply unplug for a while. I wish I could stay for months at a time!
Jun 27, 2019The views! Oh my goodness, the views. You won't find a lovelier view of Honolulu. It's a bit of a trek to get to the house (and you may find that Ubers are reluctant to take you up the winding hill, so would recommend a rental car), but it's worth it. We experienced some slight problems with the electricity due to some uncharacteristic storms, but the hosts very graciously worked with us to resolve the issue and make us whole for our stay. The home itself is lovely, and is great for hosting a large group (amazing living space on the top floor, spacious kitchen). Highly recommended!
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful house with a fantastic view. We greatly enjoyed the sunrise every morning with our coffee. The house is clean and well kept up. Convenient to Waikiki/Honolulu (about 20 mins drive) but quiet since the house is located up on the mountain. Stan greeted us and provided information on the history of the house as well as suggestions for local restaurants to try. The house also is located very close to a State Park with a great lookout point and hiking trails.
Jun 27, 2019Expect an AMAZING view of Diamond Head and the Honolulu skyline any time of the day. The private backyard was a great place for our group of 6 to bond and experience Oahu’s nature first-hand as birds gathered early in the morning to feast on the feeder (a very small, but very nice touch!). The kitchen, dining, and living room spaces were also terrific hangout places between our adventures to Oahu’s attractions/destinations, of which many of them were approximately 30 minutes, making this house a central location for visitors. At least 15 of those minutes are dedicated to going down a mountain road (about 4 miles). So to the designated driver, be prepared! This was our 3rd time in Oahu and this house was by far the greatest living experience we’ve had in this island when compared to our previous stays at Waikiki hotels.
