Douglass was super helpful with instructions and information prior to arrival. We had a great time on the island and we're glad to have such a unique place to stay that fit our budget.

Staying at Douglas' tree house was a unique off the grid experience. Don't expect too much comfort, be ready to live with the minimum. Apart from some financial misunderstandings in the beginning, everything went great. Douglas was generous with local tips and shared his surfboards with us :)

Doug was a great host, providing us with all we needed and more for our stay. We loved the tree house. It was unique and quirky and in a beautiful, peaceful neighbourhood.

Douglas was a great host for our first AirBnB experience. He was friendly, easy to communicate with, and knowledgeable about the area. He offered to take us hiking, which we were unfortunately too busy with other things to take him up on. Overall, a great little space, quiet, safe, and cozy.

The location is super remote, scenic and cool. From the neighbourhood there is an easy bus to Pipeline (for all the surfing fans). Definitely check it out if you're and outdoorsy person.

What a great little place. Had all the amenities we needed, though you are warned it's a little rugged and it definitely requires a more laid back type of personality to enjoy. But the location made it worthwhile. Its tucked in a sleepy suburb right next to the beach and was great for watching the sunrise. Found some really cool hikes nearby, especially Makaua falls trail right down the street that became one of the unexpected gems on our trip (really fun bouldering!). Doug was also really great at making himself accessible and easy to reach with questions.

This is the perfect place for a traveler who wants to live simply and simply live for a bit. Breathtaking hikes and beaches nearby as well as bus stops just around the corner for further exploring. Douglas was a great help with every question we had and took us on an incredible hike.

Great for those who plan on being out and on adventures all day. Good place for the price.

Great location--Has beautiful scenery with surrounding mountains, hikes and beaches. Also serves as a great access point to the rest of the island-- it's a short drive to the northern and eastern shores. Doug was very kind and accommodating. Let us rent paddle boards and strapped them on to the roof of our car for us. Also drew out a map of the area and gave us directions to awesome hiking and paddle boarding spots. Shower is outdoors and bathroom is a short walk from the treehouse. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a more adventurous/off the grid experience.

Nice location, but would be a bit of a tight fit for 4 people, particularly the living space.

Great place for anyone that is looking for a home base to adventure around the island and isn't too fussy about upscale amenities. The cabin was rustic and cozy, with everything we needed to cook for ourselves camping style. The bed was comfy, with lots of space. Showering outdoors was fun but quick due to cold water. Doug was a great host - lots of tips and he even took us out for a surf lesson. We'd definitely stay here again!

I had a wonderful stay in Douglas's tree house. Calm, independent, idyllic place. I'll come back for sure.

Comfortable and peaceful. Not really a treehouse, but a 2-floor structure next to a tree.

Such an amazing location with tons of great beaches nearby! The cabin is super cozy and comfortable, and the outdoor shower definitely wakes you up in the morning! Make sure to bring or purchase bug spray though since there are quite a few mosquitos flying around the area. I would suggest to rent a car, although the bus service seems to be pretty great, because the treehouse is a 40 minute drive from the airport. It's also about a 40 minute drive to Waimea Bay which is an amazing beach and snorkelling spot that you must check out while staying at Doug's place. Doug has a little hand drawn map inside that tells you about some great hiking spots as well which is a bonus, and one of the cool hikes is basically in the back yard!

It's a nice place if you are willing to climb the stairs for the sleep at night and get down the stairs and walk to the neighbor house each time you want to go to a restroom. When taking the shower with warm water (no hot water) that is on the street when dark, make sure to bring your flashlight (no light in the shower). If traveling more than 2, make sure the second bed will have a box spring in advance, otherwise, it'll be almost impossible to sleep on it. To summarize, it was a nice one-time experience.

Douglas was a great host! The mini-house is great for people traveling on a budget. The description is accurate. The house is in a really quiet neighborhood and is close to some great beaches. I'd definitely suggest this to anyone who is wanting to experience the more calm side of Oahu.

This off grid tree house (not really an actual tree-house) is a small and cozy place, out dated furniture, a little damp inside, outside showered with no hot water, toilet was outside the tree house, and a few bugs. It wasn't an issue for me because I've been camping before, it's something you expect. No a/c inside, has a fan upstairs in the bedroom, which during the day it was needed but not so much at night. Has an amazing view of the mountains as you sit outside on the patio chair, siting under a fruit tree while spending some company with the roaming chickens! I didn't spend lots of time at the tree house. Location is great, I've spent lots of my time at Kaaawa beach which is a 5 minute walk. The tree house is 2 blocks away from main highway and bus stops, and a 5 minute walk from a 7-11 which is a lifesaver for food, drinks, and snacks!!! (not many food spots nearby)... It's about 1 hour bus ride to Waimea Bay Beach and a little over 1 hour bus ride to Ala Moana Center. I stayed here mainly because I attended the Spartan Race Hawaii Weekend at Kualoa Ranch which was a little over 2 miles away..... Overall, this place was perfect for me due to its location, size of the tree house, and price for my stay. The host, Doug, usually answers you back promptly if you have any questions and he is a great source to ask for recommendations on what to do while your in Hawaii. My first time here was amazing and I can't wait to come back!

This house was not only terrible but the photos he posted were not realistic at all. The place was unsafe for anyone. The house itself was dirty it seemed as if someone was living there before we got to the house. Very disappointed. Plus the host was rude.

Douglas' treehouse is perfect for a couple Who likes Adventures, its all clean and you find everThing you Need. The WLAN does only work near the house like he said but it's aleight when you know before. All in all it was a Great stay

It's a shack not a tree house. But other than that the description is pretty accurate. Location is great. Not too far from great surfing spots. The locals were very friendly. overall, it was a best experience however, I do not recommend it to someone that does not enjoy being outdoors. This is not a hotel.

Outre le rapport qualité-prix qui était un peu élevé, tout était très bien dans cette petite cabane. Nous avons été bien reçus et nous avons pu bien profiter de notre séjour. L'arrêt de bus et la mer se trouve à 2min a pied.

Great little place! Exactly as described. If you are not ready to rough it then this is not the place for you. We enjoyed the hikes, beaches, fishing, and much much more around this area. Seemed well placed for enjoying the North Shore and Honolulu area.

Me and my girl loved the tree house cabin. Very simple but great for the price, and the location is the best on oahu. Doug was very helpful and accommodating and even gave us a later check out time. Over all we’d come back!

Great location and very accommodating with letting us check in early. Only thing I would have liked to see differently was that there was a crack in the ceiling allowing lizards and bugs in the room. Other than that, amazing host and location!

Great location to get out of the heavy tourist spots in Oahu.

Owner’s description gave me high expectation. It’s probably true for the main house but clearly doesn’t apply to the back house. (1. No great view in the back house 2. Room is not that clean - the window frame had dirt residuals from construction 3. No lit/encloses path between the back house and the bathroom, I had to walk through in dark) I’d not recommend the back house for such a price because with the same price you’d spend a night in a much better house.
