Neighborhood Overview
Located on Alii Drive in the heart of downtown Kona, our condo is just across the street from the ocean and Kona Harbor. Alii Drive is the ocean front street that offers many activities; including surfing, paddle-boarding, snorkeling, swimming, night time manta ray excursions, jet ski rental, parasailing, submarine rides, kayak rental, and many restaurants. The annual Kona Ironman Triathalon starts and finishes on Alii Drive, a block from our condo. The annual Billfish Tournament (September) is held in Kona Harbor, just across the street from our home.

Ma Ke Kai Hale is located 8-miles South of Kona International Airport in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona in Kona Plaza.
Transit
We now offer an airport shuttle service from KONA International Airport to our condo. For airport pickup and delivery, call Shelly Mullin at (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Our guests may use our Infiniti Q-45 while staying at our condo for only $35/day. Since our Kona Plaza home is located in the center of down-town Kailua-Kona, you can walk to most local attractions. Kona harbor and its sandy beaches are just across the street. There are taxi cabs, and tourist busses for local transportation. You can also rent bicycles, motor scooters and motorcycles here. In fact the local Harley Davidson motorcycle dealer rents Harley's for $90/day and is only two blocks from our condo! You can swim, surf, fish, snorkel, scuba dive, wind surf, paddle a canoe or paddle board, or even join our canoe club and help paddle a 6-man outrigger canoe in Kona harbor. Just walk to the beach in front of the King Kamehameha Hotel and take a ride in one of our KAI’ OPUA CLUBs outrigger canoes every morning
Access
Our Kona Hawaii guests will have easy access to our condominium using our smart lock door system. Our second floor home is handicapped accessible by elevator, and requires no stair climbing. Our bathrooms also have grab bars by the commodes. Guests have full use of all amenities at Kona Plaza, including the in ground swimming pool, roof-top ocean view picnic area, elevators and under-ground, secure parking. The below ground parking garage has a security door that requires guests to enter a security code to enter the parking garage. There is no overnight parking at ground level for our guests. On arrival, go to the office, complete the "Visitor Registration Form" upon and give to the site manager Melissa Nahale. She will then issue a temporary parking pass to be displayed on the dash of your automobile.

The location was perfect for walking around, finding restaurants, renting bikes and booking tours for our vacation. The condo had boogie boards, a few snorkel masks, and a shade umbrella for the beach- such great details! We loved the daylight cafe for breakfast, and fosters kitchen for dinner!

I use 3days with my family. Location is good near beach, supermarket and restaurants. Most of all, this condo is awesome! And David is very good owner, quick response, has good hospitality. He gave rental car also. I really recommend this condo!!
Jun 27, 2019Sparkling clean!! (don’t take that for granted in Kona ;) The kitchen is really well stocked- which was great for us here over Thanksgiving, we were able to cook a full meal. Location is excellent in Kailua-Kona, tons of fun activities and good restaurants & bars all within walking distance.

Walking distance to almost all the good restaurants, shops and the beaches were very close by. Great little coffee shop just out the front steps. To top it off, David was very kind and quick to respond during our stay. We had a magical time! Thank you!

Jun 27, 2019Five of us stayed at David’s 2-bedroom apartment for four nights. Before I describe the series of events that took place, which soured our experience, I want to mention that the apartment is very clean, well located, spacious and well equipped. On the day of check-in, our flight landed early and we reached the building at 1pm (check-in time in the Airbnb listing is 4pm). We met a housekeeper and told her we were early and just wanted to drop our bags. She told us we could go ahead and drop our bags in the apartment. We did just that and left the building. In 30 mins, we got a text from David accusing us of breaking into his apartment and of leaving some dead fish smell. We immediately came back and there was no smell in the apartment. Apparently, it was some mis-communication between him and his housekeeper. When I asked him if I could give him a call to clarify things, he gave a very rude and unwarranted response saying he won’t speak on the phone and we were at fault. David’s behavior was so unpleasant and unprofessional. Next, there was the car that he had agreed to lend us for our stay because he couldn’t apply some discount he had promised on the Airbnb listing. There was a lot of back and forth on this. He constantly kept asking for an additional $100 - first saying that he forgot to add cleaning fee, then saying that we owe him that much for the car that, and then finally agreeing that it was a misunderstanding on his part. Finally, When we arrived, he again said we should deposit $25 per day for the car in his account. After clarifying, he let us use his car for no charge. We took a picture of the fuel tank reading before using the car and filled up more fuel than we found the car with. Despite that he sent us rude texts saying we didn’t fill up his car. Overall – I would not recommend staying at David’s place because of the way we were spoken to. Maybe he’s nice to other guests but our experience was quite the opposite.
Jun 27, 2019The condo was decent. We stayed here with one other couple and there was plenty of space. If you’re going to the beach, the condo has lots of supplies for the water. The kitchen is stocked with most things needed to cook a meal. We had difficulty with the car that was available. Unfortunately, it was not working properly (not drivable), and since I was the first to bring this to Dave’s attention, he didn’t believe me. We spent our own time taking a look at the issue, but he did not have it fixed during our stay, so we had to cancel plans for our trip that required driving (or pay $250 per day for a last minute car rental). If you’re familiar with this island, you’ll know that there’s not much to see if you don’t have a car. The lack of car ended up being pretty costly with multiple Uber rides. his definitely ruined our trip and I didn’t get an apology until I asked him for one. I’m pretty easy-going when it comes to Airbnb stays, but this was definitely not up to par. It’s very evident that this is a new property and Dave is learning as he’s going. Unfortunately, my Christmas vacation had to suffer because of this.
Jun 27, 2019What an awesome location; so close to so many things. Walking distance to many restaurants and shops and easy drives to other activities. The condo was great with amazing outdoor space on the balcony. We used the sleeper sofa and those that used it said it was very comfortable. There were amazingly soft blankets as well that the kids greatly enjoyed. It was so convenient to get in and out and David was so quick with the communications. We really enjoyed our time at the condo!
Jun 27, 2019Overall good stay, but could see a few improvements Pro: - Excellent location, walkable to the beach, to some of the best local restaurants and to the supermarket - David was nice and responded quickly and tried his best to plan arrangements. - Nice renovations, large space and comfortably sleeps all my family. - David offered us to rent his Nissan Pathfinder during our stay. It was really useful having a four wheel drive car to navigate around Big Island. To be improved: - Not as clean and new as I wish it would be, there were small stains left on the towels, the washer and dryer were getting rusty - this could be easily fixed - We had an incident where we have been unexpectedly locked out by the screen door and since we didn’t have the keys, we had to call a locksmith. This should be a one-time incident only and I hope David will avoid this situation in the future. David offered to pay for the cost of the locksmith to compensate for this situation. - Communication wasn’t always clear. I suppose this is because of David’s many guests but there was a bit of confusion when making arrangements. A lot of information wasn’t concise enough and made it hard to keep track of everything. Jun 27, 2019We recently finished a three week stay at the Condo. David has been great to deal with throughout the entire time, from booking to check-out. The location of the Condo is as advertised. We specifically wanted a place that was centrally located in town, and boy does this Condo deliver in this regard! The Condo is very clean and functional. Also the parking garage is very secure. At night you can expect some moderate city/town noise, but you are, after all, in the heart of town. Lots of restaurants and shops to visit. Great little beach for snorkeling and swimming just a 10 minute walk from the Condo. It's a terrific property, and we really enjoyed our three-week stay. Thank you David! Tom

Jun 27, 2019This apartment was in a great location close to shops and restaurants. It was in great proximity to the airport. It fits four people perfectly with two large beds and two bathrooms. We enjoyed the closed terrace dining room that is open to outside air. There were also beach towels, sunscreen, and snorkeling gear which made it very convenient. Would recommend this place on Kona side!

The new renovated kitchen is fancy with all cooking utensils and spices. there are also has additional sport equipments such as tennis rackets, Snorkeling equipment, bike, etc you may not have time to use it.

Jun 27, 2019As a couple with two teenagers we looked for a place that had three beds. David's nice place had two separate bedrooms and a pull-out couch which worked well for us. In the heart of Kailua, Kona the ocean shoreline, shops, 150 year old church and historical palace home was within one or two minutes walk. My net cost was $202 per night included a full kitchen and a block away the Marriott two bed room without a kitchen net was apx. $350. Great place great value for everyone.
Jun 27, 2019The condo is in a central location of Kona. The big issue I had was that David and his staffs assumed my family and I dirty the place without even inspecting the house in person. I washed all the towels we used and cleaned up the house. Be mindful, I paid $135 cleaning fee initially when I made the reservation. When the housekeeper came in person, she was delighted to see that I had washed all the towels and cleaned the place. In the end, David apologized.
Jun 27, 2019We stayed at Dave's condo for 2 weeks. We loved the fact that it is walking distance to waterfront Kona, lots of fun shops, restaurants, local market and beach. We were pleasantly surprised to have beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment and a ice chest. The fully screened Lanai has a ceiling fan, chairs, couch and a dining table. Beautiful kitchen with newer appliances makes you feel like you're at home. Washer and dryer were a huge plus!

Jun 27, 2019Location is right on main strip of Hilo, so you can walk to everything. The apt was clean and modern, which was a surprise as the building was on the older side. Had everything we needed, including air, which can be a real treat in Hawaii.

Jun 27, 2019My family enjoyed our stay at David's condo, with its clean, comfortable space and plenty of room for everyone to sleep. The location to Kona was wonderful to be able to walk to the town's restaurants, water front, stores, and historical sites. Even though I would recommend a car if you want to go out and explore more than just the downtown, we loved being able to spend some of our days never having to drive and still getting to explore with just a short walk. However, the condo itself is in a quiet location. David was very good at responding to our requests and I was even able to call him directly the day of check in to get confirmation of an early check in.
Jun 27, 2019Everything was as advertised, especially with the awesome amenities like the big TV and the induction(?) stove. My family could tell that the place was newly renovated with the new granite countertop. We were also able to utilize the terrace and had a nice breakfast there. As added bonus, there's even a closet with beach items like towels and chairs that you can borrow. Had some minor issues that wouldn't really affect one's overall experience like the door keypad not working (though they smartly put a manual key in a lockbox as a backup), and having to hold the shower head in one of the bathrooms. Can't beat the location as well.
Jun 27, 2019Kona is all about location, location, location and David's place had it in spades. Easy to get into and out of, beautiful kitchen for us to cook in, private space for us and our kids. The screened in lanai was well-appointed - plenty of places to sit. David was very communicative with us as soon as we made our booking. We deeply appreciate all the information he passed along to us! We'd happily stay again!

The kitchen was so well stocked with utensils and amenities, we didn't need to buy much of anything. The beach towels, chairs, snorkeling gear, and umbrella made our beach trips great! We will definitely stay here when coming to Hawaii again.
Jun 27, 2019Great place to bring family for a Hawaiian getaway. Starting with the excellent - great beds, good pillows, good hideabeds for extra sleepers. Kitchen and bathrooms were lovely, with great hot water, filtered drinking water, and well-stocked amenities such as soaps, towels, utensils, pots and pans, etc. You can bring groceries and start enjoying your vacation immediately. As of 7-23-18 (when we left) there is heavy construction going on at the complex. THIS IS IN NO WAY THE FAULT OF THE HOST, AND IS COMPLETELY OUT OF HIS CONTROL. That being said, visitors need to be made aware because it might temporarily bother some vacationers. Check with the host first. When the construction is finished it will be a very lovely, quiet place to spend a relaxing Hawaiian vacation. The host has thought of practically everything for the comfort and convenience of his visitors.

Jun 27, 2019David's place is definitely a perfect place to stay at. It is located in the heart of Kona which makes it very easy to come back from walking to relax. Shops, restaurants, and beaches are just walking distant. We walked everywhere and only used our rental to go exploring. It's very clean and spacious and he is very responsive. We was there during Hurricane Lane so most of our activities were cancelled but still had a great time just enjoying the locals fish off of the shore. David was very kind and thoughtful and got my husband and I a dozen of roses for our 20th Anniversary that we was out there for. I would def go back to his place again and would def recommend to my friends & families.

Dave was extremely accommodating and let us check in early. The place was clean and wonderfully furnished. It also came equipped with beach towels and snorkeling gear. Jun 27, 2019Place is very nice. Kitchen is updated and has everything you'll need. Bathrooms are clean and updated too. Mattresses are comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping. AC works well, room fans work great too and aren't too noisy. Balcony area has large table and nice chairs. Has no issues with bugs. Location is right by the ocean and shops (no ocean view but can get there around the corner). Never need to worry about parking in DT Kona since parking in the underground garage is included. Would definitely recommend this place.
Jun 27, 2019David was a great host, he responded fast and let us do an early check in, very nice. The unit was very well equipped with everything you need, especially the kitchen! There were just a couple of things we didn't like: there was a little noise (we think from the elevator) that we could hear at night, it wasn't loud, but we could hear it sometimes. The second thing was that the outside of the building is a bit run down, and it looks like all the Airbnb's that are in a condo in that area don't look good on the outside, so if you're staying in an Airbnb condo in Kona you'll get the same outside.
Jun 27, 2019Great condo, great host, and great value. However, I would not recommend this location to families with small children because the homeless population in downtown Kona is out of control. I have vacationed in Kona several times over the last eight years, and the highly visible, drunken, and aggressive behavior of the once kind vagrant community frightened me and my young family. No offense to the host--he rocks it--Kona proper just needs to follow his lead.

They unit had laundry / dryer which were very useful after our daily water activities. Extra couches which turned into beds were very handy. He was very responsive with all questions I had and the directions were also very clear. Highly recommend!
