Neighborhood Overview
You will experience the essence of Paddington lifestyle - central to an abundance of cafes, restaurants, art galleries, pubs, parks, boutique shopping and Paddington markets. We are walking distance to Five Ways village, Centennial Park and Woollahra. By bus, we are minutes to Bondi Beach and the city centre. Paddington boasts a number of stylish pubs and wine bars including The London Tavern and The Grand National Hotel, both a stone throw away. Your stay could not get more central and special than this.

Transit
How to get to our place: Oxford Street is the closest main street. We are between two pubs on Underwood Street - The London and The Grand National. From the Oxford Street, walk down either William Street or Queen Street and turn onto underwood (we are a couple minutes walk from Oxford Street) From the Airport: Take the train to Museum Station and catch either one of: 380, 333, or M40 (red bus) and get off at the first stop after Paddington Town Hall (Opal cards available at the kiosk at the bottom of the stairs at Museum Station) OR Take the train to Central Station, take the Eddy Ave exit Take the 440 bus (Sydney Buses) Ask for the William St stop in the centre of Paddington, on Oxford St. Opal available from kiosk at station. Cab from airport is around $40 -$50 Uber is around $25 - $30 There are buses on Oxford Street that take you to the city or the beaches. We had a great time in Paddington; the house is fascinating and the room was perfect. Sadly we never met Arnie in person, instead were shown around by his easy-going and lovely friend. Paddington Market is just across the road and we walked everywhere along Oxford St. Highly recommended.
Jun 27, 2019Dear Arnie and Lorraine, thank you so much for having us at your wonderful place. It was a really nice and homy place for us. Love the room, the cozy bed and also the fresh air that comes from our 2 windows. The house has a good natural light, a wonderful kitchen, and a stunning bathroom. I also give Arnie a lot of credits for his artworks that filled most of the entire house. He is truly a fine artist. Lorraine was also a good host to us, very friendly and has a lovely smile. Thanks for the wonderful experience and sharing your lovely place for us.
Jun 27, 2019What a cool house! A great way to stimulate the creative mind while staying in comfort. The bedroom was very comfortable and the hosts were really nice. Great historic area with cafes and little specialty shops just around the corner. This quickly became my favorite airbnb place.

Entry and exit and wandering around the neighborhood was safe and simple. Arnie and his partner were both easy going, polite and made the this first time using airbnb a pleasure. Thanks guys. Jun 27, 2019Perfect location in a truly special house. The room was lovely and very clean; and as quiet as confortable. Arnie was very arranging and helpful. We stayed a total of 3 nights. Paddington is a great area of Sydney, very central. You can go anywhere from here, the bus stop was very close.I would highly recommend anybody to stay here.
Jun 27, 2019Wow! What a great way to experience Sydney. A beautiful city, and a beautiful home base for your stay. Arnie's place is funky and creative (reflecting its owner), and centrally located right in the middle of all the action. Walking distance to great places, and all the public transport to take you anywhere else you want to go. And Arnie is a warm host. Totally recommended!
Jun 27, 2019Once I mastered the bus system, I realized how easy it was to get to Arnie's Victorian home. The room assigned to me was spacious; however the bedsprings of the antique bed creaked, and made me paranoid about disturbing the rest of the occupants of the house (and other guests). After a long day exploring the city, the creaking bedsprings did not bother me as much on the second night. The bathroom is up another set of stairs, but clean and spacious too. Arnie was very helpful when I discovered I had lost the key to my luggage, and I really appreciated that. The house itself is filled with Victoriana and of Arnie's large paintings. The neighborhood of Paddington is very boutiquey and fun to wander through. There are a number of bookshops (which I love) and many furniture and clothes stores. Went to a couple of cafes for breakfast in the neighborhood; the food was reasonably priced and the coffee was great. All in all, a different and attractive face to Sydney, than what I was used to. I'm glad I chose this home on this Sydney visit.

Jun 27, 2019I stayed here while exhibiting at a nearby trade show. Arnie's house was just what I needed and it was a pity I didn't have time to 'put up my feet'. Arnie was interststae for most of my stay so I didn't get much time to chat with him but I enjoyed chatting to the other guests in the evening. They loved the house and were very interested in its history. The lack of street parking was the only negative. There is a small parking area leading to the house, but my parking skills were obviously lacking and I incurred a $1400 damage bill from the car rental firm due to scrapes on the vehicle. Despite that I would certainly return because the house was well located and much more enjoyable than staying at a hotel.

But when you entered in, how to describe it, a feeling of stepping in a gallary.The rainbow-coloured stair,hanged-up drawings,historical furnitures,etc.We were so glad to stayed in their house for two nights. We love it and hope more people can appreciate the beatiful house.

Jun 27, 2019I enjoyed my stay with Arnie, Lorraine and Arabella. Arnie was very welcoming and it was a delight to get to know Lorraine. The house is amazing - very creative space, as you would expect with Arnie being an artist. The location is superb - very exclusive and trendy Paddington with lots of designer shops in the side streets as well as Oxford Street. Very handy to city and transport. Thanks for your hospitality.

Jun 27, 2019Arnie and Lorraine are very nice and friendly, they gave me a warm welcome and suggested great spots for breakfast, dinner and walk around. The house is clean, unique and looks exactly like the pics, in addition there is all what you need ie. wi-fi, adaptors, hair dryer etc...and also maps, books and delicious ginger tea! The place has a great location in Paddington, really close to transport, lots of interesting little shops, cafes and restaurants. I loved it!

Jun 27, 2019Arnie was very helpful but also left us to come and go as we pleased and to use the facilities in his lovely home. He gave us good recommendations of places to visit and pubs to eat in. It was a great location and neighbourhood with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants within walking distance. It was also near a bus route, which meant that the city centre and beaches were easily accessible. It was our first AirBnB experience and we would recommend it.

Yes the pictures are accurate and the place is located in the perfect spot 2 min walk from the bus stop, nice/safe area and the chance to do lots of shopping. Arnie and his partner were more then welcoming and if you get the chance why not have a look at Arnie's great art work. The bed was soft and comfy wasn't much noise at all. I also want to say thank-you for dealing with my last minute booking. I highly recommend anyone to stay at this listing you will not regret it I promise. I can't wait to stay again!!

The neighborhood was off a busy street where we could easily catch a cab or take a bus. Also had cute boutiques, restaurants and pubs on the side streets. The location definitely made us want to come back and be able to explore Paddington more.

Paddinton was a lovely suburb with friendly people & great shopping, food, cafe's and bars. Arnie & Lorraine were welcoming & even though I didn't meet Arnie until day 3 I felt at home and welcomed based on the energy & peace in the home. Thank you! Jun 27, 2019Arnie was a good host. We didn't see all that much of him since we were out most of the time, but he was helpful in our short interaction. He was also gracious about us waking them at 10:30 when we couldn't figure out the lock. The house is old and interesting, and in a great location. Very easy to get to many great neighborhoods in Sydney from his location. My only complaints were having a shared bathroom, and that the room was right next to Arnie's own bedroom. The close proximity didn't cause any issues really, we just had to be extra quiet to not disturb them. There is another bedroom on the other side of the house which would have provided better privacy, but that was occupied during our stay. The shared bathroom wasn't a major issue, though there was a couple times when it was unavailable.
Jun 27, 2019We had a lovely time in Arnie's place, the house is lovely but we simply fell in love with the neighborhood: what a fantastic area! It's very safe, beautiful and there are cafés, pubs, public transport and a convenience store very nearby. It was a great base for our days in Sydney. We definitely recommend staying here.

Jun 27, 2019This is a destination home. You should go to Paddington simply for this majestic abode. Arnie and Lorraine are sweethearts - we had great chats, they allowed me space when I wanted it but were around and fun to hang out with. Though they were away when I arrived, they left clear instruction for how to get in and called me to check I was ok. A visit to this house is worth it solely for the interior decoration - a personal art gallery of infinite intrigue. The bedrooms are plenty spacious for a short stay. The house on a quiet street just set back from where it's all happening on Oxford St. There's a plentoria of top notch and unique food and retail shops around. The only drawback is that there's only one bathroom but the downstairs bathroom was being repaired on the last day of my stay so should be solved shortly. Truly, I now count this beautiful family as an extension of my own and I'm certain you will too.

Jun 27, 2019A beautiful house with beautiful paintings. Arnie's family is very kind, the accomodation is confortable, clean and located in a preatty and quite roundabout. The center is 30 minutes walk away and the bus to downtown stops closed to the house.

Arnie and Lorraine are brilliant hosts who really make you feel welcome and couldn't be more helpful or easy going. Highly recommend!

He was very warm, happy to share stories about the unique residence and equally happy to give me complete space to do what I needed whilst I was there. The guest room I was in felt like I had gone completely back in time and the bath (as deep as the ocean), well, that will just have to wait til next time. Arnie's arty home in Paddington is a stones throw away from Oxford st which is super handy. Whether for work or play, in this pad, you must stay. I'll be back for sure! Thanks Arnie.

Jun 27, 2019Arnie and Lorraine were excellent hosts. They were welcoming but not intrusive. I stayed at this bnb for 4 nights while my husband was in St Vincents Private Hospital. The bnb was in a great location a 15-20 minute walk to the hospital. It is in a safe area with plenty of cafés and restaurants in the vicinity. The keyless entry saved the worry about carrying keys. My first time using bnb. A good experience. Thank you.

Jun 27, 2019Wow, what a delight is was to stay at Arnie's Paddington house. Arnie made everything easy for Jacinta and I to enjoy Sydney and the local area. He suggested dining places and interesting tours. If the grind of Sydney wears you down, relax by the pool. If its raining, enjoy the fabulous art collection on every wall. The house is a period gem with 18ft ceilings and with very high quality modern appliances. That's it......a gem!

Jun 27, 2019Its neighbourhoods like this that make me want to move to Sydney! The location was perfect, being between the city and Bondi with a great variety up-market of shops and boutiques. Arnie and his wife are both intelligent and friendly. I stumbled to make eye contact with them at times because I trying to take in the collective of interesting artworks. My only regret is that I didn't book another night. Thanks for having me. I would love to stay again.

Jun 27, 2019I had a brief, but very enjoyable stay at Arnie's very unique and interesting historic house. Arnie made everything about the stay very easy and provided a great introduction to the neighbourhood with very useful recommendations. Paddington is a really lovely area and the house is perfectly located in the middle of the nice shops, restaurants and bars, but on a very quiet street. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Jun 27, 2019We had an amazing stay at Arnie's and Lorraine's home. The house is beautifully decorated, with a really interesting art collection. We also liked a lot the neighborhood, with charming architecture and close to public transport. Our room was super comfortable, we had to work during our stay and everything work well, wifi connection is good and we enjoyed working by the pool or inside with a hot cup of coffee. We also got the chance to meet other guests and have a nice talk with them. Definetly recommend this place , it's was our first time in Sydney and we loved it. Like other guests mentioned on her review, it makes you want to move there! So Arnie and Lorraine, thank you!

His house was amazing and not only did he open up his house to us but was also kind enough to introduce us to some of his amazing friends when we had an awesome mexican night with lots of food and cocktails galore. It was an incredible experience and I can't wait to go back again soon!
Jun 27, 2019This was one of the loveliest houses I've ever seen! The decor is absolutely stunning, from the red painted living room to the walls covered in an assortment of paintings to the regal marble bathroom with gilded mirrors. We stayed in one of the double bedrooms which was very comfortable for just two nights. I think this would be a great option for renting the whole property but if you're just staying in one room it does feel a little like you're disturbing the family. Also a little odd that their daughter sleeps in a corridor outside the guest room. We found that rather uncomfortable, even if they put a door or a curtain across the corridor to block it off would have been better. There's also no mention of the fact they have a kid on their profile. Other than that, a wonderful house.

Jun 27, 2019Our stay with Arnie was a pleasure. He was responsive to our messages before and during our stay. He was home when we arrived and provided great recommendations on places to visit. The house is very well-located. Paddington is an absolutely delightful neighborhood. We enjoyed exploring the wide-range of cafes, restaurants, and stores (we definitely recommend dinner at Eat Thai). Likewise, we enjoyed having the option of a leisurely stroll down Oxford to the CBD or choosing one of at least three bus lines to whisk us quickly to our destination. With regards to the house itself, this is certainly a property for anyone with an appreciation for art. Arnie has a well-curated collection, including many of his own works. During our stay, there was a guest in the second bedroom, but we didn't have any issues with the shared bathroom.

Jun 27, 2019Arnie and Lorraine's Artists Home in Paddington is a true gem. Wonderful and warm hosts with a truly unique and interesting house in the best location in Sydney. They were kind and relaxed, the place was comfortable, you didn't want for anything and though I didn't have time on this trip you could easily spend some wonderful hours in the eclectic decor of the really fantastic bohemian style lounge. The surrounding area is teaming with cafes - The Bonython is literally next door - The Alimentari down the road and tonnes of great restaurants - a few minutes to Oxford St via William St - minutes form regular buses and taxis. Paddington is a great area of Sydney. Historically, culinary and fashion wise with a market on Saturday. Believe me - a fine way to experience Sydney as a visitor. If you are a solo traveler or a pair looking for old Artistic Sydney charm on a realistic budget then this is the place. Wish I could have got to know the hosts better. Can't wait to go back. Great people doing a great thing.

Arnie, always up for a chat and has a great knowledge of Sydney if you're a first timer or even a regular visitor looking to have some different experiences. The house very unique and easy to get visually lost in. Located at centre of Paddington great food and neighbourhood. 15 walking distance to CBD, if you want somewhere with great characters, please book this place. Bring your running shoes, centennial parklands just 2 minutes away great running track.
Jun 27, 2019Arnie and Lorraine's property is an absolute treasure! Steeped in art and history and only one street back from Oxford St (and the delightful Saturday Paddington markets) I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. There's two Airbnb rooms who share the beautiful stone bathroom but I rarely noticed the other guests, the room I had isn't pictured but had a great feel with gorgeous natural light and plenty of space. Arnie and Lorraine felt like old friends after my week there and I'll definitely be back!

Jun 27, 2019My experience at Lorraine and Arnie's home was below average. When I first walked into the house to drop off my luggage, Arnie opened the doors and quickly walked away making me feel like an inconvenience. The room that was given unfortunately looked nothing like the room that was in the photos. The house felt very cold, dark, and lifeless. The house also probably needed a proper clean, it smelt very dusty. The bathroom doors despite no opened windows would occasionally just open itself which was annoying when you're in the shower or on the toilet. I used the scales on the ground that I found and leaned them on the door so that my time in the bathroom wasn't interrupted. The wifi also did not connect if you were upstairs, which meant you were not able to use the internet in your own room. The pool could've used a clean, looked like nobody had swam in there for a few years. Lorraine also made a point that we weren't allowed to walk up the stairs in our shoes which is fair enough, however the manner in which she did it was like a parent lecturing a child which I thought was unnecessary. A highlight of our stay was Arnie's daughter Arabella, she was very well-mannered and welcoming.
Jun 27, 2019Arnie & Lorraine lead a life full of love. I felt right at home in their vibrant world of eclectic art and wonderful, engaging conversation. I was lucky enough to visit when they had their engagement party and had the chance to dance into the early hours, celebrating. My week in Sydney was incredible and was made more so with the friendship and welcoming arms of them both. I intend to return and highly recommend staying.
Jun 27, 2019Just back home from a wonderful 5 night stay in Sydney with Lorraine and Arnie. loved their house, its location and most of all their care and attention. Best coffee for miles!!! I love Paddington and their home reflects its essence - history, art, good vibes and a communal sense. Any concerns? No but if you are older like me make sure you turn on the light for the top flight. Will I stay again ? Yes please!!!!!

Jun 27, 2019I enjoyed my stay at this very interesting house. Loraine's greeting and introduction to the house was pleasant. I was out early and home late so didn't see much of my hosts, in fact missed Arnie completely. The bedroom was stylish and interesting, the bed super comfortable with good pillows and I slept really well. Nice Edwardian feel to the room but bedside lamps too weak for reading. A jug of water disappeared on the second day and never came back which was a problem because of the perilous trek to the bathroom to get a glass there and back! Which brings me to the bathroom which is spectacular and welcoming.The shower Good and reliable , the big tub looked great, I never used it. But the stairs up to the bathroom are the real problem. There's no bannister, and it is really difficult descending steadying yourself with your elbows on the walls and avoiding the art works as you clutch your clothes, towels and glass of water. Looking down the full length of the stairs with no handrail gives me vertigo. I did appreciate the house and its atmosphere, and the surrounding streets with the loved architecture and surprising shops was where I wanted to be .

Jun 27, 2019Thank for Lorraine give us free parking! You were patient waiting us late arrival. Sorry about this. The house looks like an art gallery full of artistic atmosphere. All of indoor equipment are historic and modern too. It was only a night for our staying that hadn't used the amazing kitchen. Jun 27, 2019Arnie house is realy a special place like look at the pictures. Full of interesting objects and atmosphere. The location perfect, very central but at the same time very quite too. Arnie is a very kind person...he did everythink to make my stay confortable. In plus he drive me around to the city showing to me the best parts of Sidney. P.s. ...Arnie has a very special studio too...full of his interesting art pieces . Thanks Arnie and Loraine nice to see you again. Raccomanded

Arnie and Lorraine were everything you would want from hosts - welcoming, friendly and inclusive and happy to leave you to it also. I highly recommend their home plus it is in a great location, easy to get to the beach and city.

Jun 27, 2019This is a fantastic central location, with loads of shops/ restaurants/ bars/ pubs within a 5 minute radius. The room I stayed in was ample for one person and the shared bathroom is amazing - both are large and kept very clean. Arnie and Lorraine are both lovely and I really enjoyed my stay. Would definitely recommend this accommodation to others looking to stay in Paddington.

Jun 27, 2019Had a wonderful stay at Arnie & Lorraine's place in Paddington. The house has so much charm, and I was very comfortable in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The area has loads of cool restaurants and cafes, and they provided a list of recommendations for the neighborhood, which was really helpful. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here!
Jun 27, 2019Can't imagine this house is over 100 years because it's maintained so well. The room is cozy and fans and air condition are there. The highlight is the bathroom, the decoration is just amazing! Although this place is not located in the city central but still really handy.

Room is beautiful and clean as the bathroom . The only missing would be aircon... Lorraine gave us a warm welkome ! To recommand !

Bedroom and living space is very clean with living necessities and utilities like towels and printer kindly prepared and available for use. Indoor decor design was classic and contentful. Host were really nice and friendly to allow us to use every utensil in the kitchen. Great stay
Jun 27, 2019Excellent and unique place to stay whilst in Sydney. Arnie and Lorraine were very friendly and helpful. The Paddington area is a great place to stay. Out of the way, but very direct when going into the city. The house is full of character and my stay was very comfortable. Recommended!

Jun 27, 2019Beautiful house in a lovely neighbourhood. Great location with lots of buses on the doorstep so easy to get everywhere. Had a really comfy stay here with everything I needed. Lorraine was lovely and helpful and got back to me super fast when I had any questions. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Sydney.
