Space
THE HOUSE The house is a typical village house with three floors and a furnished roof with fantastic views down over Sai Kung and the sea. The house is in a very small village and is very quiet. The guest bedroom is on the top floor of the house along with our master bedroom. There are stairs leading up to the roof terrace. At the top of the stairs is also a fridge that guests are welcome to use to save them having to go all the way down to the kitchen to get a cold drink, milk for coffee etc. There is are tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom. On the middle floor there is the living room / second bedroom. This room can be used as a living room if you are staying as a couple or an individual,or as a second bedroom if you are a party of 3 or 4. On this floor is also the second bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, and our daughter's bedroom. The downstairs consists of the kitchen, a bathroom and the living room / dining room. Neighborhood Overview
The village is nestled in the hills above Sai Kung and there are some great walks and hikes right from the village. It is a lovely place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still be near enough to enjoy all it has to offer. If you enjoy hiking, we have the Machelhose Stage 4 and the Ma On Shan trail right on our doorstep, and the Wilson Trail section 4 starts in Ho Chung which is a 10 min bus ride from Sai Kung.
Notes
We have one dog (very sweet natured) and two cats who are rarely seen as they hide from everyone! Please note that if you are two separate people who do not wish to share a bed, you will need to pay extra for the second bedroom, which is the equivalent of a third person ($400 per night)
Transit
Sai Kung town is only a 20 minute walk or you can get a minibus (10 min journey plus 4 min walk to bus stop). From Sai Kung it is very easy to get into Hong Kong Island, the journey time from Sai Kung by car or taxi is 30-40 mins or about 1 hour on public transport. Sai Wan beach is a 25min taxi ride and then a 30 min walk. Trio beach is a 10 min taxi ride then a 10 min bus ride. Sai Kung beach, which is very small but has fantastic watersports rentals such as kayaks, wind surfers, paddle boards etc. is a 25 min walk from the house or a 10 min walk from Sai Kung town.
Access
Guests are welcome to use the middle floor living room. The downstairs living room is the family room and is not a shared space. Guests are welcome to use supplies from the kitchen such as cutlery, plates etc. if they would like to have a BBQ or breakfast (which they provide themselves) on the roof terrace, but it is our family kitchen so it is not available for cooking meals. There is also the roof terrace which guests are welcome to use if the weather is fine. This 700sq ft space has fabulous views looking out one side to the mountains and the other down to Sai Kung and the sea. There is a charcoal BBQ on the roof which guests are welcome to use, and a fridge just inside the door to the roof. Please let us know if you would like to use the roof and / or BBQ so that we can get it ready for you as the cushions and umbrella are stored inside to to keep them looking nice. You can buy charcoal for the BBQ from one of the shops in Sai Kung (same price!) We have all the tools you need for

Rules
PLEASE READ THE HOUSE MANUAL THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE ONCE YOU BOOK. THIS HAS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. There is a no smoking rule in the house but guests are welcome to smoke on the middle floor balcony or on the roof. If you intend to use the BBQ please let us know in advance and tidy up the rubbish / food etc and bring inside any plates, glasses etc. afterwards, ie don't leave food out. We will clean up Please take off your shoes and leave them in the cupboard under the stairs. We have an eight year old daughter whose bedroom is on the middle floor, so please keep the noise at night to a reasonable level, especially if you are staying during the week as she has to be up early for school. The kitchen is not really available for use and we do not provide breakfast. However, there is a toaster and a Nespresso coffee machine in the Green room and you are welcome to have breakfast on the roof terrace and we have plenty of plates, cutlery etc that you may use. It's very well experience in Tara's home.The facilities of the house are well-prepared.Tara's advices about Sai Kung are useful.Thanks to her picking us up in car,It 's easier for us to make a round trip from the house to the mini bus stop with baggages.Tara is very nice,and help us so much! They also gave us good advice to find the best spots and restaurants in the area. The house is located in a very quiet area where you can hear all day the birds singing and at the same time with very convenient transportation to Saikung village.

Jun 27, 2019It was a great opportunity to see something unique in Hong Kong. Owner is very kind and informative. She's always ready to help us and willing to do everything to make our stay awesome. She came to pick us up by car in the front of Starbucks. She walked us through her house, kindly gave us some nice options to spend time and how to get there searching on web sites. We settled down unpacking our stuff, then she gave us a ride again to go to Trio beach. We enjoyed swimming there and had awesome seafood dinner at Sai Kung as she recommended. She and her family were out almost all day, so we relaxed ourselves in the living room, too. There's a helper who is very kind and friendly, which also made us feel comfortable. The house was clean and lovely. It has a beautiful garden, fully equipped kitchen and spacious roof top overlooking great view. Our kids loved playing with the dog and cats in the rooms. We felt as if we had come to another country leaving busy, hectic life in a city of Hong Kong. The house is located in a remote place, so make sure you know where to get off a cab coz we got totally lost after dinner! We got off a cab on an ally next to the right one, but it's really hard to find out the house during night. Anyway, the helper came to find us so we finally arrived at home. Eventually, it made funny memory for us;) Thank you very much!!

As we got to his house later at PM 7:30, we can't find restaurant .He take us with his car and help us finding restaurant. when he awareed that we was inconvenience to live in accordance with airbnb order, he give me a additional big bed without any extra fare. room is lean and his dog is very lovely.

Jun 27, 2019We can highly recommend staying at Tara's place: She was a very friendly host and had lots of tips where to go in Sai Kung and how to get there. The room was just as described, we felt very comfortable. You can easily walk to the Sai Kung city center, also the house is the perfect hub to go hiking or to one of the beaches close to Sai Kung. We would have liked to have more time to explore the beautiful and quiet surroundings.

Jun 27, 2019I had a really nice time in Sai Kung. Tara and her family were very welcoming and helpful giving me lots of information and a lift into town when I had all my luggage. The views from the rooftop are amazing and there is great hiking and beaches for swimming nearby. I also did a kayaking tour that I can highly recommend.
Jun 27, 2019This BnB nestled up on the hills above Sai Kung was in my opinion a great and idyllic getaway within the boundaries of Hong Kong's SAR. Some have argued that it wasn't easy to reach and a bit too far out. But this argument proves illogical while they are comparing to anything else more urban - hence this be called a 'getaway'. However I find this to be a perfect solution to be out in the mountains surrounded by the full force of green vegetation all the while only a five minute taxi ride into Sai Kung town for all your amenities, enough choices for eating out and a convenient terminus to head into the city about an hour away. What more can you ask for? The British family hosts are friendly and generous. Although I've always seen B&B's to mean 'bed and breakfast', this accommodation is more like a 'B', since breakfast was, as clearly defined on the site, not included. However their kitchen is free to use and one only needs to bring their own groceries up to the house to cover the stay. Rooftop BBQ was a promised highlight but the grill was so rusted out from under-use that my planned steak BBQ turned to a stove-top fry down in the kitchen instead. Overall I still highly recommend this stay to anyone who wishes to find a nice quiet stay to gaze out in late afternoon/evenings under the stars on the rooftop or just to hunker down for a few days watching countless DVDs available or to hike on the plethora of trails that lead out and around the surrounding mountain sides. Whatever you end up doing, you'll come out fully rested and ready for another round from Hong Kong city's knockout attack on your whole being.

A while to take to drive some Sai Kung centre to there and parking is just next to the houses. We love the living room. Enjoyed a night with dvd. There are lots of books and photos which show the owner's good taste and wonderful life experience. It's a pity that we have full schedule outside all day long that even don't have chance to talk so much with Tara. But I do believe I 'll be back soon with my husband and daughter. We didn't met Tara, but her house keeper was really nice and gave us plenty of tips and information about Sai Kung and made us really feel home! We watched a DVD in the living room, had breakfast on the rooftop with an outstanding view and were able to use the large and well-equipped kitchen. Thanks for the great memories!

Jun 27, 2019This is a wonderful tour with Tara's house and her kindly help! 1. The house is very clean (even after standing with barefoot on the roof,our foot is still clean!) and warm (all people there are very nice, Tara is helpful and her beautiful daughter is quiet and lovely too) 2. Tara is very helpful and if she can, she would try to help us to fix all problems! Such as taking more care of my nephew who is only 3 years old and my parents who are more than 70 years old. 3. The BBQ is definitely a good highlight as it was a wonderful experience when we eating and relaxing on the roof with beautiful moon and many stars in the sky. Can you imagine we are in a modern city, HK, can see so beautiful night! BTW, I used to worry about the grill but it is very clean and not under-used at all. 4. "The house is not big but comfortable " and that is the comments from my parents.

Jun 27, 2019We took taxi from the airport, and it took us a while to find the house. The house is remote and cosy, very clean. Helper Dee is kind and there are a black dog and two cats in the house. Sai Kuang is wonderful, highly recomended. 乡村生活,安静,从机场坐红色出租去要近些,约三百五十港币,但司机可能不熟悉路｡和房东及帮佣需要英文交流｡住这里很舒服,乘四元小巴去西贡,登岛或海边吃饭都方便｡

Jun 27, 2019I had a great staying in Sai Kung, Private room and rules of the house are perfectly described, the house is very quiet, Tara and her family are very welcoming. I was mostly hiking in Sai Kung country park, it is easy to get to the park using bus 94 from Sai Kung bus terminal or using mini bus 29R just in front of McDonald. You could also hike nearby the house. There is plenty of good restaurant in Sai Kung for diner, A Starbuck for breakfast, Just loved the Matcha espresso Fusion offert in HK Starbuck, they are not available in Canada. Moni Stand coffee+record is my best coffee spot discovery of 2016 , I loved the spirit of that place and the hand drip high quality coffee is just perfect. Jacques
Jun 27, 2019I had a pleasant stay during my visit to Sai Kung in Tara's beautiful home. The view from the rooftop was amazing and the quiet and peaceful surroundings made for a relaxing atmosphere night or day. The bus stop was only a short walk away with very frequent mini bus service for a reasonable fee. Tara and her assistant Dee were fantastic hosts with tips and advice about sights, hiking trails and dining locations in the area. Thank you both for helping to make my experience in Sai Kung so memorable!

Tara was incredibly nice and helpful, she had great suggestions for things to do and was very accommodating. The roof is an excellent place to watch the sunset!

Jun 27, 2019It feels like home! They're very artistic and creative. Ate Dee is very helpful and always smiling :) The dog is like a dream dog of any pet/dog lover, so quiet and sweet. The cats are always MIA. Didn't get a chance to play with 'em. Hehe The view is awesome from the rooftop, we did stargazing there. The house facility is good and comfy and we had a really good rest after all day hiking. Jewell is cute and give us big welcome even from out of the house.we will definitely choose Tara's if we revisit Sai Kung
Jun 27, 2019Tara, her helper Dee and her lovely daughter Ella were such great hosts! From booking taxis, directions to the house, to sharing of toys, they were generous with their time and home. My daughter had such a fantastic time playing with Ella. The walk to the house is very relaxing. The playground quite awesome indeed! I would suggest washer access for longer stays, but otherwise, one of the most pleasant airbnb experiences I've had.

She was available to assist every time I needed it and offered some great suggestions on sightseeing! The home is clean and comfortable and I would absolutely stay here again if I return to this area of Hong Kong.

Jun 27, 2019Saikung is certainly one of theee places to experience nature and the "wild" side of Hongkong. Sure you have to be lucky with the weather but I managed on one of my "bad" days to get to the museums "downtown" in 1, 5 hours. Otherwise take the bus from near their place down to the boat from the ferry pier and head for the sharp island-trail! Taras place is a nice house with a lot of privacy, netflix and if necessary-even a heater. I did not meet Tara but talked to her husband and enjoyed the company of their lovely and very helpful and interesting helper Dee. Special thank's to you, Dee!!!

Jun 27, 2019Nice house, very comfortable and cozy. Highly recommend guests to take a look at the instruction manual carefully before reaching there. Because we still overlooked the exactly way of the location. Tara is very kind and Phil explained all the instructions clearly when we arrived. Btw Jewel is super cute and friendly. We love Sai Kung and will definitely choose here again. Hope to see the hosts again. :)

Jun 27, 2019We had very nice and enjoyable weekend at Tara's place. The place is located in a very quiet area, about 10 minutes ride from Sai Kung pier and it's perfect for a quick weekend getaway. I have to say that Tara was a great host and we felt really comfortable at her place. We went there by motorcycle, so it was very easy for us to explore around. There are some wonderful beaches around this area and spending time there gives you an impression that you are not in HK anymore, but rather at some paradise beach in Southeastern Asia. To summarize, it was a wonderful weekend and we would love to stay at this place again.
Jun 27, 2019we really enjoy the night stay at Tara's place, nice and cozy. Lovely juice and cute white cat~ Please follow Tara's advice taking taxi or bus to the house. we cost nearly 40 mins walking there. Thanks Tara~

Jun 27, 2019It's a family house, but you get a very private environment. The room I stayed was on the top floor, and I had own shower and washroom. The room is very clean. The house is located 5 min walk from the bus stop, and I enjoyed walking the path along the river in green. The helper was very helpful. Great stay. Highly recommended.
Jun 27, 2019as described, but very expensive for this particular shared room situation. you can't really use any common area apart from roof, which was hot and buggy when we were there, so could only hang out in small rooms. felt like invader in what is usually family space. would only rent if nothing private available, and camping unfeasible for weather reasons. is convenient to trails, clean, comms good.

Jun 27, 2019We stayed here for a night to get out of the city and do a little bit of hiking. The house is close to a couple of hiking trails and not far from Sai Kung town center (accessible by minibus). The room was nice, clean, and spacious and Tara was a great host. She gave us lots of good tips about where to go hiking and places to eat in the square. Would definitely recommend staying here!
Jun 27, 2019Tara and Phil are very hospitable! I I especially enjoyed the roof top access. Grabbed a cup of coffee laid on the sofa on the roof top, the morning breeze, an ocean view and bird chirping in the background. It’s perfect for getting away from the city. I also went up the Maclehose Trail with Tara’s suggestions and it was fabulous. I would definitely come back and stay for longer when I come to Sabi Kung again! Thanks for everything Tara!

Jun 27, 2019Beautiful home away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong city. It was slightly difficult to find the place initially, but once we found it, we felt at home. The room was very cozy and comfortable. If we ever needed another break away from the city, we won't hesitate to pick Tara's place again!
