We enjoyed everything about our "Small and cozy home" stay, easy check in, very convenient kitchen/bath/bedroom, clean, peaceful and true to its name... cozy!

This small cozy home is a perfect place for one or two people to have a hawaiian getaway. It is located in a neighborhood, but the lots are large enough to still feel like you're in your own little space. The house itself is very comfortable. The deck is large and great for day or nightime use. The house is also great if you just want to stay in and relax for a day. Also, the location is very convenient, it is close to Pahoa and just a short drive to HIlo and the small beaches there. I stayed here for 6 weeks and really started to feel like a local. Staying in a home such as this one really makes you feel like part of Hawaii.

My wife and I stayed in Kirsten's and David's house for five nights. The hosts left us fresh local fruit, juice and coffee to start off. The interior is nicely decorated and It didn't take long for us to feel at home. Loved the place, especially the sounds of the birds in the morning. Really loved the eco-friendly rain catchment and solar hot water systems. The kitchen is complete, but if you don't feel like cooking yourself then go to Pahoa and enjoy delicious vietnamese fare at Cafe Pho.

We were very pleased with our stay here. Everything exceeded our expectations. The house was very clean and in good condition. The location is a bit out of the way, but provided a good base for exploring Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea, and other attractions. After a long day of hiking or other activities, it was a pleasure to return to a such quiet, restful location. We'd definitely recommend this to friends.

Even before we arrived, Kirsten and David were incredibly warm and welcoming in their emails to us. My husband and I stayed at their vacation home for a month. It's a beautiful, very well kept, new home in a central part of the east side of the Big Island in a very quiet neighbourhood. In fact, we had only 1 neighbour as the lots on all the other sides were empty so we were surrounded by beautiful lush greenery. It's pretty much equidistant to Hilo, Volcano, and Kalapana/Kapoho areas so a great central location for exploring. The house had absolutely everything we could possibly need or want to enjoy our stay - maps and guidebooks, a fully-equipped kitchen, a huge lanai, snorkel gear, great wifi connection, good cell phone reception, lots of extra linens and towels, a big bathroom, laundry facilities. On top of that, we were greeted with a beautiful fresh fruit basket and Kona coffee when we arrived! Kirsten was so great in terms of making sure we were ok even though they live in Alaska. They sent regular emails to check in to see if we had any questions/concerns. It's a shame we didn't get a chance to meet in person. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again! Mahalo Kirsten and David :)

We haven't chance to meet David and his family, but we loved the attention and clean comfortable home they provided for us. I enjoyed the use of the rainwater ,very clean for drinking and soft for taking the shower. We so got use to it,it choked us just the smell of the water in LA airport, chemically treated :((( We enjoyed talking with people, great food and the main star-the volcano national park on this side of the Island. I would recommend David's house for either short or longer stays,it's comfortable and clean. :)))

We didn't get a chance to meet the family but we were in constant communication with Kristen via email. The place was just perfect for us and we hated leaving! Very conviniently located, halfway between Volcano and Hilo. We enjoyed the amenities and Kristen  provided great breakfast on our first day! We all went to her recommended places like the zoo, volcanoes, farmers market, restaurants and beaches and they were all great!

We had a wonderful time at Paradise Getaway. David and KIrsten were very accomodating and easy to communicate with. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood close to the gorgeous Puna peninsula, the fun Pahoa town, Hilo, and Volcano National Park. The house was very clean and comfortable, with barbecue, washer/dryer and snorkel gear available. The water was clean and delicious. We'd love to return.

The 4 of us with 2 kids really enjoyed our 3 nights at the "Paradise Getaway". Only wish we could spend more time in the house. But too many places to visit around and not enough time...Very conveniently located to visit the Volcano Park as well as the Puna area. Thanks David and Kirsten for the follow-up and for sharing your house.

We really enjoyed staying at Paradise Getaway - this house is so very pretty and one notices the love and care of the owners from the very beginning. The house is cozy and comfortable and we did not miss anything. The kitchen is fully equipped and we appreciated using washer and dryer. Communication before our stay could not be better - we really appreciated Kirsten & David's e-mails which were very informative and helpful. We will definitely recommend this place to our friends and family without limitation. Mahalo!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this house. It was a quiet retreat after a busy day of playing 'tourist'. We would definitely stay here again!

The photos really don't do this place justice. The beauty is in the quiet of the neighbourhood, the sounds of the rainforest, the smell of the air and the design of the house.. It was simple, clean and elegant an interesting mix of high end sustainability. The kitchen was really well equipped, the water was lovely to drink and the hot water plentiful. We really how it was situated between Hilo, near Pahoa and close to Volcano as well. Kirsten was so friendly, helpful and available at my fingertips. Forthcoming with necessary info in a timely manner, tips and suggestions in conversation and an overall excellent host! Can't recommend this place enough. I wasn't surprised because it was accurately represented in the ad, but I was greatly pleased so I think there's something about it that just can't come across in text and photos. Kirsten was part of that, the house and Hawaii the rest. Love to come back for a month or two sometime.

We had a lovely stay in Kirsten's beautiful home. It's in a great location, on a quiet cozy street. We were greeted by a beautifully built home where every detail was attended to. We had flowers, fruit, and goodies in the fridge to enjoy. It was also a pleasure to communicate with Kirsten. We will go back and stay there again!

If you have plans to go to the east side of Big Island, this is the place. The house is really nice, very clean, new and has all the amenities that you'd have at your home. And in addition is not expensive! We felt like home. It is located at Pahoa, it was close enough from the places we wanted to visit, like Volcano Nat. Park, Akaka falls, etc... So, I recommend this place.

Kirsten was a great host! She was very attentive and made sure we had all the directions and information for her place. We did not get to meet her but she was very easy to reach through email. Her place is very cozy and charming and clean and has everything you need. We had a great stay, and found the location perfect - from the airport, the Volcanos National Park and Uncle Roberts Night Farmers Market. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the Hilo area of the big island. Thanks and Aloha!

I stayed at Paradise Getaway with my three teenage children and had such a wonderful time. My son actually lives on the Big Island, so we had the best tour guide. We had full days of snorkeling (Kristen had masks, snorkels, towels and more), hiking in Volcano National Park, driving to Kona side, going to the Hilo Market and to Uncle Robert's too. It was great to come back to such a wonderful house at the end of the day and make dinner and relax. I loved how ecological Kristen's place is, and also clean, modern, well lit and quiet. Kristen was prompt to respond to any queries, and helpful. Thanks for such an easy and comfortable stay! We hope to return to Kristen's paradise in the future!

A wonderful stay! Kirsten's home is located within a quiet neighbourhood, perfect for settling in, relaxing, and viewing the stars at night. The house is small, but perfect for 2-4 people. It was very well kept and clean. Kirsten was exceptionally communicative and provided clear and detailed instructions. We absolutely loved it there and would definitely stay with Kirsten again if given the chance! Future renters would be advised to check the location of the house, as it is about 30min from the airport. The location is what makes it a quiet and private spot, however, and for us, was a perk.

I've never met Kirsten but she was a wonderful distance host. We always communicate by email. When I had a question she was always there and answered as soon as possible. Kirsten shared lots of tips and some good one. Her cottage is spacious, very clean, ... It was awesome to live there. You've got everything you need. Taking breakfast and dinner outside on the balcony was amazing, even waking up by the song of the cock in the morning was wonderful. In that way, I was awake for the day and can take advantage of the island from sunset to sunrise. We enjoyed our trip in her wonderful place and recommand it.

Kirsten was an amazing host even from afar. We never actually met but everything went as planned and very smoothly. Kirsten was also very helpful in giving us tips to make our trip better. The listing and info was all accurate. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Paradise Getaway, would do it again, and recommend it to others! Thanks for helping make our recent trip to Hawaii so enjoyable. We really liked your place. Thanks for the breakfast on arrival and for the fresh pineapple (the person overseeing the property, I assume, left it for us downstairs one day). Your tip for the discount Hawaii car rental was great and we ended up using it. With the free additional driver, it was the cheapest option. We also made use of the Big Island Revealed guide book that you had available at the house several times during our stay and enjoyed all the little extra comfort at the house. We made use of the little cooler and beach towels on one outing. The washer and dryer were convenient too. It was nice to come back and relax and watch a little TV in the evenings then wake up and have coffee and breakfast before venturing out for the day. We loved Volcanoes National Park, went there two different days. We were celebrating our anniversary which turned into an engagement atop the volcano! We then had dinner at the Volcano House's Rim restaurant which was perfect. Besides that we liked "the strip" in Pahoa and tried out the Thai and Mexican restaurants there. I'd only been to Oahu before and liked the Big Island better. There was more beautiful natural surrounding to look at, it was less touristy, and I thought the food was better. I'm vegetarian and it was pretty easy to find good options for me. We went zip-lining one day in Kapa’au and used Big Island Eco Adventures II. We'd definitely recommend them. Not only did it allow us to see a different part of the island by driving to Kapa'au but our tour guides were super cool and gracious. It was my first time and they were great at helping our tiny group of four feel safe and comfortable. I hadn't been on others for comparison but my partner was talking about having to brake and land yourself on other zip lines. This one was more hands free because the tour guides helped with each "landing." I also went for my first ride in a helicopter. We did a volcano and waterfall helicopter tour using Blue Hawaiian helicopters. We also had a good experience with the people there. We stayed seven days and did much more then I mentioned here. It was a good amount of time to stay for. Of course, it would've been nice to stay longer but thanks again for your hospitality!

Had a great experience renting from Kirsten. The place was neat and clean and had plenty of room for the two of us and the pull out futon worked great for our guest when he arrived partway through our stay Very comfortable place to stay.

Immaculate! Kirsten's beautiful home was spotless and had fantastic amenities. This private oasis was quiet and the large deck overlooking the lush backyard provided endless hours of lounging. The location was perfectly positioned as it secluded, yet provided easy access to Pahoa, the Kapoho tide pools and Hilo.

I never had the chance to meet Kirsten, but she was so friendly via online communication. My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Kirsten's amazing home and we were not disappointed. The pictures are accurate and we were blown away by the cleanliness, peacefulness, and relaxing vibe of the home. We moved onto our second airbnb home for the remainder of our stay at the big island (since we were heading over to Kona), but we could not stop thinking about how wonderful Kirsten's Hilo home was. I would definitely recommend her home to anyone visiting the Hilo side and we're positive that if we ever go back, we'll be hoping to stay here again!!

Kirsten house is a perfect place to stay while exploring the Volcano National Park and the Hilo area. It was great size for my family of three, very clean, cozy and peaceful. Kristen was prompt to respond to any questions. The house is equipped with everything you need for your vacation, from beach towels, coolers to the maps and guides. We enjoyed reading all the publications about volcanoes. Thanks for such a comfortable stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Kirsten's place. The place was fully stocked for everything we needed. Particularly the kitchen was very nice and we enjoyed eating on the deck after a long day of exploring the island. The neighborhood is quiet and a nice place to relax after a long day. We never met Kirsten but there were no issues and there were clear instructions throughout her house. We highly recommend this place for exploring the Hilo side of the island.

Kristen's place was really nice and clean and well situated on the Big Island. A good place to stay if you plan to visit Volcanoes National Park, Hilo or the eastern side of the island. The washer/dryer was also much appreciated. Kristen was also very accommodating with our departure time, allowing us to take advantage of the little time we had on the Big Island. That was much appreciated. Also, a bowl of fruit was waiting for us which was a very nice touch.

Kirsten's place is a great base if you want to visit the Hilo area of the Big Island. The place is located in a very peaceful neighbourhood (often the only sounds around are the sounds of nature in the garden!) but is only around 20-30 minutes from downtown Hilo and around 40 minutes from the Volcanoes National Park. The place is very spacious and the kitchen has all you need if you don't want to eat out while the washer and dryer are very useful if you're travelling or staying for an extended period of time. I didn't get the chance to meet Kirsten but she was always helpful and prompt with communication. Would definitely stay again and recommend anyone else visiting the area.

This house is everything one can ask for when traveling: It's a Home away from Home. Situated in a very quiet neighborhood, it's already a friendly and welcoming place from the outside - and inside, it's very cosy, nicely decorated, very clean and very spacious for one or even two people. Kirsten prepared everything perfectly for my stay and got back to me with all the questions I had immediately. She also sent a quick note on the day before I left to say Thanks and Goodbye. The location is ideal for exploring Pahoa, making short excursions and going on day trips - before you start, get your smoothie or coffee at the Tin Shack Bakery, it's only a few minutes drive. There are some restaurants in Pahoa, there's good grocery shopping in the area and: don't miss the Maku’u Farmer’s Market on Sundays. I can definitely recommend Kirsten's house and would love to become a regular at this place - if my home wasn't thousands of miles away from The Big Island.

Kirsten's house was a welcome and welcoming place for me to stay at in the beautiful Puna area. It was clean, spacious and very quiet,as it is situated in a very quiet and safe neighborhood, just a few minutes north of Pahoa and close to Hilo,as well as the Volcano. I appreciated the fresh flowers on the table ,fruit and coffee all there to welcome me. I absolutely loved knowing that all their water is harvested rainwater!!! All descriptions were very clear and exactly the way she describes them and all previous conversations were prompt. I would definitely stay there again! Our previous conversations were prompt

We cannot thank Kirsten and her family enough for hosting us on our honeymoon. Their home was absolutely perfect for us! We spent our days adventuring all over the big island and we were always excited to arrive back at Kirsten's paradise getaway to spend our evenings relaxing. Their home has everything you need and she generously offers the use of their beach and snorkel gear to her guests. The home was clean and ready upon our arrival and we were greeted with a bowl of fresh fruit, which was delicious! Do not underestimate the convenience and importance of their safe drinking water. If you are on the fence about staying here or elsewhere, do yourself a favor and factor that into the decision. We always had plenty of hot water for showers and dishes and had experienced no negative issues at all!! My wife and I highly recommend a visit to Kirsten's paradise getaway if you enjoy relaxing in a quiet secluded area and still being just a short drive away from all the beauty and adventure that the big island has to offer! Perfect home, perfect location and absolutely wonderful hosts!

Mahalo!

I really enjoyed Kirsten's place - so peaceful and a beautiful setting, with no light pollution, set amongst the beautiful flora of Puna. The house itself is very nicely put together, a beautiful place, and a very comfortable place to stay, and fully equipped. It is only 12 mins to the town of Pahoa, with plenty of groceries, organics natural food store, cafe, etc. 30 mins to Hilo (north), and 30 mins to the southern Puna shoreline (incl. the Kopoho tide pools, Kehena beach, and the spectacular red road). 30 mins to Volcano park. On Sunday there is a great farmer's market only 5 mins away. Perfectly situated, and yet quietly tucked away in a beautiful setting. This place comes highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay at Kirsten and David's house very much. The location is beautiful and serene -- well removed from the Highway 130 traffic and the relative hubbub of Hilo and Pahoa. The home, with its open floor plan, is indeed well-built and well-kept (and very private). The wrap-around lanai, with its views of the many tropical plants, was a major plus, and it was a joy dining on the lanai. The road leading to Kirsten's street had an interesting and fun, gentle roller-coaster section. Coming back at night was a bit challenging, because we couldn't figure out how to access our car's "trip meter" (with the tenths of miles -- Kirsten's instructions involved tenths of miles), but Karen had the foresight to count the cross streets on the way to Highway 130 so that we could recount them on the way back. And we eventually recognized landmarks, such as the street just before theirs that had a street sign at a 45 degree angle. The location of the home was perfect for accessing the beautiful Kapoho tidal ponds (some of the best and easiest snorkeling we experienced), and the home is about as close to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park as is Hilo. We were there during an unusually dry and warm period, so it took a while to get the house cooled down at night by opening the windows and turning on the ceiling fans, but the house was always comfortably cool by the time we were ready to go to sleep. And we were able to hang out on the cool, breezy lanai while waiting for the house to cool down. We never spoke with Kirsten (who is in Alaska most of the year) or her local contact person, Vonda, but then we didn't need to while there, because we had no problems with the home or with finding what we needed. There was always plenty of hot water, even when we both took showers and used the clothes washer the same night. The water was still hot the following morning -- and to think that all that water is heated by the sun. Kirsten made us feel welcome by arranging to provide fresh fruit upon our arrival. We were also welcomed by the soft, sweet chirping of the coqui frogs. Some people don't like that sound, but from what we hear, that is because there are so many frogs in some places that they are very loud. We experienced much louder coqui sounds near the Hilo Bayfront, but we love the sound, along with the songs of the many tropical birds in the Puna area. It was very easy to communicate with Kirsten by e-mail prior to our trip to get useful information, such as the easiest tidal ponds to access. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Kirsten and David's house if we return to the Puna area.

Nice big studio layout house with nook for bed. Clean. Peaceful neighborhood. Was crazy hot when we were there, but in normal weather fans and windows would be fine - even with super hot weather wasn't bad. No problem with hot showers in the morning even with solar water heating. Full kitchen. Big lanai.

Everything was perfectly in order when I arrived. Everything was clean and tidy. The little house was perfect for my stay and in just the right location, with everything I needed including boogie boards. Loved waking up and seeing the sunrise through the ohia trees, wish my own house was just like it. Loved it and would definitely stay again.

Kirsten made us feel welcome by accommodating our changing itinerary and insuring our comfort level was paramount. We were able to keep in contact with her, and her response time was amazing, as our plans changed. We were pleasantly greeted with tropical fruits and coffee on our arrival to the cozy comfortable house. A very child-friendly abode, in a lovely suburb. There were no surprises when we arrived at the place, and everything was labelled so the inner workings of the house were easy to use such as the ceiling fans and washer/dryer. The house itself was easy to find and the neighbourhood was pretty quiet given the nocturnal frog noises, almost musical by nature. We had very deep sleeps and the cozy place was laid out in such a way that we all had our own space. We loved staying at this house, it had everything we needed and was within a short drive to stunning landscape, tidal pools, waterfalls, and parks.

While we had quite the adventure trying to find the street sign that first night in the dark, the actual rental was great. I hope to go back again as the Pahoa lava flow advances. The place is plenty large for two people. The floor is large enough for one or two more but I would not enjoy the wait to use the bathroom with 4. Kitchen was great as we prepared every meal at home. The bathroom was fine and the night light was such a nice touch for me. We never turned on the tv but the wifi was fine even if I felt it was a bit slow given all my pics, going and coming. Even my wifi at home in Calif is slow under my load. Washer and dryer were a nice bonus with all our activities. A big box of beach and snorkel equipment were an unexpected bonus. Maybe I should learn to read all the fine print. Bring foam earplugs. The home is in a wonderful rural setting so the frogs are loud and compete with the dogs. The roosters announce the mornings. After the first night I felt at home and some nights did not bother to use my foam earplugs. In summary, I hope to rent this unit again. Staying in a real home in that setting made our week that much better. The location is great for lava flow activities. The main road into Hilo is under construction so weekday mornings and evenings where like driving the LA freeways. ;) I hope you get the opportunity to also stay in this home.

Superb house and great host, Kirsten had everything we needed for the week. Well located for any activities in the area, I strongly recommend this house. Mahalo Kirsten.

A lovely place to stay while exploring the Hilo area! The house was so well-equipped and thoughtfully & tastefully appointed. We cooked all our meals, got our laundry done, and enjoyed having a house to ourselves after spending the previous week in an inn. Our daughters would have preferred not sharing the futon couch-bed, so perhaps the place is a better fit for 1-3 people than 4, but we made it work and enjoyed being here.

I've stayed at many airbnb's and this one was outstanding on all fronts! The place was impeccably clean and had almost no wear and tear. The huge deck was an added bonus. The most impressive feature is that the kitchen is extremely well stocked with all the necessarily pots and pans. The location itself is very remote (feels like you're living in a jungle), but we preferred that environment. The Pahoa farmers market and recent lava flow at the bus station are both must-sees! Highly recommend this airbnb!

It's amazing to have a whole house to yourself on Hawaii, and Pahoa is a great place for that house to be. Kirsten's place is well appointed -- it has so many thoughtful touches, like DVDs after a long day out, all the appliances to cook a nice meal at home, and even board games in the closet. Pahoa isn't too far away, so you can go to town, and Hilo is close by, too. It doesn't take long to get to Volcanoes National Park -- basically a great location. The place is a pleasure -- thank you, Kirsten!

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at this little get-away. The place was very clean, the kitchen was well-equipped for cooking, and the neighborhood was quiet and safe. I loved hearing the birds and frogs in the yard every day. I recommend the Sunday farmer's market nearby, we had a great time there and got supplies to make a delicious dinner. It was also nice to have a place with a TV, DVD's, and board games; it really made us feel at home. Highly recommend!

Sehr empfehlenswert! ENGLISH Our experience here was similar to the travelers before us - this cute home is nicely furnished with everything you might need. the shower is good, Bed and futon are comfy. And you are only about 30-40 minutes from the most important sights on this side of Big Island. Recommended! Thank you for great communication.

Wow! Paradise indeed! What a beautiful house. Remember the bit in This Is Spinal Tap where the amp went up to 11. Well if I was scoring this house out of 10 then I'd need to go up to 11 too. The house is beautiful. It had absolutely everything we needed (and more). Really beautifully decorated and very comfortable, we felt right at home. No air-con but this is on the cooler, wetter side of the island and not needed, the room fans were more than enough and it was wonderfully cool in the evenings. The water is filtered rain water, solar heated for the shower. So the shower wasn't scalding hot but a sensible comfortable temperature and that wonderfully soft rain water means you are going to be economical on the shower gel! It's in an area carved out of o'hia tree rain forest and you get the impression of being in the middle of the forest particularly on a wet evening when the birds and frogs chorus. The effect isn't spoiled by traffic either, I think we only saw a handful of cars pass during our entire stay. Kirsten is a great host, amazingly superb communication throughout the entire process, and unbeknown to us conspired with my daughters to provide a wonderful gift parcel, waiting for us on arrival. That was in addition to Kirsten's own fruit and flowers. If you are looking to visit Big Island and want something different to the usual Kona tourist experience, this accommodation, half way between Hilo and Volcano is ideal. And don't miss the Sunday Farmers Market just up the road!

Great place to stay for the price! Had everything we needed and was conveniently located near the Volcano National Park and Hilo. The only downside was the barking dogs on neighbouring properties. Other than that, we really enjoyed our time here.

Everything as described. The house is fully equipped. Kitchen, bathroom with towels, living room with TV and DVD and Internet. The location is not central but very quiet in the moist part of Big Island. We can recommend the offer and thank Kirsten for detailed information before traveling. It was great!!

My son and I enjoyed our time at Paradise Getaway. The location was perfect for us urban Honolulu residents - far away enough from the city to feel relaxing but not so far where we felt isolated. It's conveniently located near Pahoa Town and only about 20 minutes or so from Hilo. Also because it's off one of the main highways on Hawai'i Island (130), it was super convenient to get to pretty much any destination (and we traveled all over the island during our two weeks). The house itself is lovely. We arrived in the late evening (and it's very dark!) but Kirsten's directions were clear and helpful so we were able to get the key without any issues. She also arranged a very thoughtful fruit basket and the house was very clean, airy, and very cozy. One of my favorite spots was the deck - it spans one side and the back of the house, so we ate breakfast outside a lot to take in the pretty scenery; it was also a wonderful place to work because it was quiet and fairly cool during the day. The bedroom area was cool and breezy at night (and we've been having major humidity here), so no need for a/c at all. And, like Kirsten said, the water coming from their catchment and filtration system really is delicious! No problems with any of the equipment or facilities while we were there. Kirsten was a great host. She was very quick to respond to my many questions. Paradise Getaway was an incredible value for my family and I would definitely stay there again. Mahalo, Kirsten!

This was our second time staying at Kirsten's lovely home. It is always clean and peaceful here. I love that this area receives a gentle rain almost nightly and cools everything off and keeps it all so green. Kirsten is always quick to respond to inquiries. We hope to return again!

Prior to arrival, Kirsten was prompt and courteous in answering all my questions. Check-in instructions were so detailed we got in without a hitch. Then on day of arrival, we had a fruit basket waiting for us. The pineapple was soooo sweet, kids ate everything!!! Kitchen was fully stocked so we were able to have some meals there which saved us some $.The listing was accurate as described, neighborhood and location was great, quiet, clean and safe. Covered parking, Wifi and washer/dryer were very beneficial. Mahalo for making our vacation an unforgettable one. We will definitely stay here when we come back and would definitely recommend to friends and family. I give Kirsten 5 stars!!!!!

Best Place to stay ever on the big island of Hawaii! Since you have to rent a car on the island of Hawaii, the distance really doesn't matter. Kristen is really nice and response to our question immediately. Check in and Check out are really easy, save our lots of time. If you want a secluded place to stay, and if you want to feel a chill life as an islander, this def should be your first choice! (the neighbors are really nice too!)

Kirsten was a fantastic host. She did an excellent job communicating with me ahead of our visit so I can clear instructions on how to get there and what to expect. When we arrived we were let ourselves in and were greeted with a gift of fresh fruit which was very thoughtful of her. The home was very clean and had everything we needed and more! There were many guide books, maps and brochures that helped us with planning our adventures. The home is located in a very quiet neighbourhood. At night you definitely needed the windows open and the breeze made it the perfect temperature for sleeping. The home was a few minutes away from a grocery store and a short drive into downtown Hilo. I would definitely love to go back and stay at Kirsten's place.

The Paradise Getaway was the perfect spot for our family of 4 to explore Hilo, the SE coast and Volcanoes NP. Kirsten is a wonderful host, very attentive and there was local fresh fruit and flowers for us upon arrival! For a relatively inexpensive rental, the house was very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all necessities and she provided water gear (snorkels, etc). Highly recommend!

We really loved staying at Kirsten and David's Paradise Getaway near Pahoa. Their hospitality, helpfulness, and genuine care for travelers staying at their home made this entire experience very magical. The fresh fruits and flowers added a wonderful touch and helped elevate the excitement we had about staying on the beautiful Big Island. More than that, our hosts were incredibly nice and accessible which made us feel welcome and comfortable staying in a place that was unfamiliar. In our opinion, the Paradise Getaway was in the perfect location with fun activities available in all directions and not too far away. We were in a great position to explore the nearby tide pools, go snorkeling, visit the old and new Black Sand Beaches, hang out at a nearby night market, see the Volcanos National Park, and make a nice day trip to Mauna Kea. We would love to come back again! Thanks again, Kirsten and David! :) — Alex and Alesha

Kirsten's Paradise Getaway turned out to be a very good choice for our one week stay in the eastern part of Big Island. The vacation home is very well equipped with almost everything you could possibly need during your stay. Besides for single persons and couples, the Paradise Getaway would also be great for families with younger kids. Detailed information concerning arrival and departure was provided well in advance. Thus, we would stay again at Kirsten's Paradise Retreat.

Kirsten had an amazing home, really clean and welcoming. When we arrived there was a fruit basket with bananas and a pineapple that were ripe for eating. Kirsten's home was definitely a nice change for us, we had stayed 4 nights on the tourist side of Kona. Truth be told, for those who might not be so keen on the sounds of the animals at night, I would advise light sleepers to bring ear plugs. Kirsten is a very attentive host and was quick to respond to my messages when i told her about torn bed sheets. Overall I would definitely come back to stay at Kirsten's home :)

We had an incredible time at the house for our weeklong stay. Kirsten was very responsive to our inquiries before the trip. At the house, there was a fruit basket waiting for us and the kitchen was stocked ready for us to use. The available snorkeling gear came in very handy for the many spots around the island. Waking up with the sun streaming through the windows and looking out at the undeveloped forest is amazing. Really got away from the crowds of the standard tourist resorts. Overall, an awesome experience and would definitely do again.

Kirsten was very communicative throughout the process of securing and getting to the rental. Could not have made it easier on me as the traveler! My girlfriend and I loved we home, we are frequent visitors to the big island and this great little house has everything you'd need to travel the island! Nicely located in a safe and quiet subdivision, quick easy driving routes to all the islands main attractions, and you aren't right in the tourist trap! Lovely home for anyone who wants to travel the big island right, and was ge perfect size for two people. Could easily have a kid or two as well! Thank you for the great home and renting experience, I would for sure come back! Warm regards from Seattle Stone and Jen.

The house was perfect. Kirsten had really made us feel comfortable. Everything was considered; a well-equipped kitchen, great wifi, clean bathroom, laundry, beautiful porch and backyard, and so on. This was the first time since I've been using Airbnb that we felt like we were staying in our own home! The neighborhood was quiet and secluded from tourist spots, which was great. However, the place is a bit far from most tourist hotspots, so it is less conducive to a rigorously scheduled, sightseeing based type of vacation. If you are staying for a longer period and have the time to go with the flow (as the weather changes constantly) then this house is perfect. Great for families and couples. Would definitely recommend, and would love to stay here again in the future !

It was awesome, the house is beautiful and very clean. Inside there were fruits waiting for us. Which we used in a smoothie! She had all appliances you'd need at home! She even had guidebooks which helped us choosing our activities. When you open the windows there's an amazing breeze that comes through the house. Everything was so awesome, no complaints! I'm hoping to come back next year!

Fresh welcome fruits and a fully set up, cozy house on the jungle/ rainforest side of Big Island make this a great jumping off point to Hilo, Puna and Volcano areas. It is located outside of Hilo, but that for me was a plus. You definitely need a car to stay here. You won't be sorry you chose this place, though. Fresh catchment (rain) water is so luxurious. I had a beautiful stay here.

We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed this place a lot. It was clean and comfortable to explore big island. It was pretty close to volcano, hilo, and wakaka falls as well. At night, we heard beautiful sound of nature and we could feel jungle. It would be one of the best place to enjoy nature and local life in clean and comfortable place. We didn't need air conditioner, we enjoyed cool breeze with ceiling fan. The kitchen was well equipped to cook everyday meals. Thanks to nice futon sofa bed, my little boy slept well. Kirsten's kind explanation and guide was very helpful. I highly recommend this place to explore the big island!

The whole process with Kristen was very smooth, she gave me all detailed instruction for every step in advance. She answered my questions promptly. The description of the property is accurate. We arrived after dark, which made it difficult to find the place, Kristen kindly left the light on so for us to find the address easier, she prepared some welcome basket, a very nice touch. Overall very satisfied and will return.

A clean, well-appointed—if somewhat cozy—home. Great for a couple or perhaps a couple with one child. The neighborhood is quiet (except for the sounds of nature) and just a few miles from the commercial area of Pahoa. It is dark outside at night for us city folk, so bring a flashlight to help navigate from the carport up the steps to the front door!

Even the craftsmanship of the house was appreciable. I would stay here again without any hesitation

Kirsten's home had everything we needed including a full kitchen and beach towels. It is a bit of a drive to some parts of the island, particularly Kona. But it was pretty convenient for things on the Hilo side and volcanoes national park. We ended up spending a lot of time on the road, but this would likely be true of staying in any one place on the big island.

My wife and I enjoyed staying at Kristen's place. It is centrally located to hilo, volcanos nation park and the highlight of our stay, bike rides to watch the lava flow in the ocean! Kristen provided open communication and made sure we had everything we needed! Check in/out was a breeze!

Kirsten’s house is well equipped and comfortably furnished and had everything we needed. You have an entire house to yourself which we really liked. The location is ideal for exploring the volcano National Park and the other sights on the east side of Big Island. Amazing host, beautiful space. Kirsten worked with me to help provide a place for my father to stay after he was evacuated from his house in Leilani Estates due to the May 2018 Kīlauea activity. It's a 1 bedroom/1 bath home. The couch serves as futon bed also so you can sleep 4 people in the home. Our family was two adults and two children and we fit fine in the home.
