Please treat this house as if it were your own. No Smoking. No Pets. As, we do not charge a cleaning fee. Please leave the home as found. Otherwise, there will be a $250 surcharge for cleaning. Not including additional charges if there is any damage to my property. $50 per key for lost keys. This is not a Party House. Very quiet neighbors and neighborhood. THERE IS NO FILMING, PHOTO SHOOTS OR PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT ALLOWED ON THE PREMISES.

Very nice three-bedroom house in a quite and friendly area. Stop&shop supermarket is close by for food, groceries, liquor. Host is friendly and helpful, ready to assist and provide useful information. Closest subway is Grand Av, 15 min walk.
Jun 27, 2019The house was nicely furnished and the kitchen had a good variety of utensils. The bathroom was remodeled. TV and WiFi worked fine. The neighborhood was quiet, about fifteen minutes walk to the R line, which is a good train for destinations in Manhattan. Communication with host was excellent.
Jun 27, 2019House was great for our needs. Close to public transportation and a supermarket. I am familiar with the neighborhood and was happy to be so close to family and friends for the holidays. It was great inviting them into "our" livingroom and relaxing with them. Host was quickly responsive to our needs. Large and roomy, we felt very much at home.
Jun 27, 2019We really enjoyed our time at Desmond's place. It was just as described, and shown in the pictures. Desmond was kind enough to give us a quick walkthrough and give us any important information needed for staying there. He also was kind enough to point us to stores, bus/trains stops, etc. This place is only a short walk to the stop you need to get into downtown Manhattan. There are many places to eat nearby and grab some snacks at a convenience store. We were able to park 2 cars across the street from the apartment. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

Jun 27, 2019Desmond was kind enough to give us walkthrough the house. It is at a nice location and walking distance from grocery shop. It doesn't match the description; sofa is sagging, floor screeches especially when climbing stairs and house sleeps 5 only. There is only one gas heater in house that is in living area, no heaters in rooms. I avoid gas heaters as pose risk of CO2 poisoning. Bathroom is remodeled but no lock and door doesn't engage so no privacy. Behind the house is railway track and one may hear LIRR trains passing at quiet night time that may disturb sleep of those who are not deep sleepers. Dining chairs are for decoration only so don't sit as parts are already separate.

Nous avons apprécié le calme du quartier, d'où il est possible de rejoindre Manhattan sans difficulté en 20 minutes de marche (bus possible) et environ 1/2 heure de métro. Venant de Montréal, nous avons laissé la voiture dans la rue qui est sûre. La maison est confortable, parfaite pour 2 couples et 1 personne seule. Nous n'avons pas rencontré Desmond, mais il a toujours répondu très rapidement et aimablement à nos questions.

Jun 27, 2019Being that using the service of airbnb for the first time, it was somewhat of a clueless adventure to find something. Desmond as a host was great and explained everything in a detailed manner. The neighbor hood was quite as a perfect place for my family reunion with my parents from Dubai and brother with wife from Canada. We did enjoy every bit of it. The heating was ample and also the cleanliness of the place and not to mention which was good as there is a water pipe to clean yourself, not the shower. All of our family members enjoyed everything about the place. My overall experience was there is no complain.

Jun 27, 2019We stayed at Desmond's place after our visit to the Niagara falls. He was accommodating since we had a very late check in. Unfortunately we never got to meet him in person but got our questions answered promptly. The place was very beautiful and the kitchen had all the silverware. People who are going to stay at Desmond's place need to get their toiletry and a door sign for the bathroom. One major drawback to his place was that the bathroom had no lock along with creaky floors and stairs. The best part of the place was the hand shower in the bathroom which my parents really liked. Our experience has been a pleasant one at his lovely home. We will definitely recommend it to our friends and family.

Handdoeken in mandjes, bedden opgemaakt. van het huis naar het subway station is een kwartier lopen, je kunt ook met een frequente bus. Naar Manhattan kost ongeveer een half uur met de subway, dat lijkt lang, maar NY is erg groot!

Jun 27, 2019Desmond greeted us when we first check in and even helped us take our luggage up into the rooms. Place was clean and well kept with tons of towels and other basic amenities. Location was a drawback for us as we were mainly using public transport and the nearest subway (Grand Av-Newton) was 15mins walk. Other than that everything else was wonderful.
Jun 27, 2019Thanks a lot to Desmond for our stay. We loved our stay. There was a big supermarket near the place. It's really a quite place to stay. Our children loved the backyard very much. We traveled with 5 children so there was enough place for us to sleep. The apartment was fully equipped with all necessary things. We recommend travelers to choose this place!
Jun 27, 2019We stayed at Desmond's house for three nights. The house is exactly how he described. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. We were 4 people and the house can definitely accommodate five or more. His place is a beautiful town house 15 min walking distance from the closest subway station. It takes around 40 min to go to Manhattan. The neighborhood has couple of convenience stores which also has a 10-15 min walking distance from his place. We haven't meet with him but he was available for any questions. We would definitely stay at Desmond's place again.
Jun 27, 2019Desmonds home is very old style new york. Feels very homey and relaxing. He area is calm and quiet. The beds are comfortable and the jetted tub is a plus after walking around the city all day. I would stay there again !
Jun 27, 2019This was a fantastic stay. We had a total of 5 people stay over and we stayed very comfortably. Desmond responds back same day so it doesn't take too long to hear back from him. I liked the area of the place and overall the house was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The pics you see of the property exactly match what we saw face to face. Just two things that were rather disappointing. One of those things was that the driveway down the stairs was not a permanent spot for us to use for parking. Street parking at night was tough. The second was the lack of locks on the doorknobs of each room, especially the bathroom. Keep that in mind. Maybe buy a door hanging sign that says "don't enter" or something. Besides those two things, everything else was great. I would definitely use this place again.

Jun 27, 2019I never got to meet Desmond, but he was very friendly and helpful over the phone and text for the 7 nights we stayed here. The unit is very comfortable and homey with a "antique" furniture style that I quite enjoyed. The bathroom is very new, clean, and modern, which I appreciated--however, I would've liked if there was a lock on the bathroom door. If two people don't mind sharing a full (listed as "double") bed, the unit can fit 5 people at the most. On the first night staying there, when we had both the AC and microwave on, the breaker tripped, which took about 1.5 hours to resolve (would've appreciated if Desmond gave us a heads up to be careful, but he was at work when it happened so I still appreciated his quick response). We later discovered that even without the AC on, running a blowdryer on high would cause the breaker to temporarily trip, so we had to resort to using a very small travel sized blow dryer we happened to have on hand. For light sleepers, there is a railway right behind the house that runs at all hours of the night so I've been woken up by the sound of (what sounds like) large cargo trains driving past at 2-3AM and 5AM several times.

Jun 27, 2019I really enjoyed my stay as well as my family. Desmond greeted us when we arrived and promptly responded to my e-mail messages. There was a gym close by which was very important to me, and the walk to the train station was only 10-15 minutes. The townhouse was clean and there was air conditioning which was wonderful.

Jun 27, 2019Me And my Friends had such a great stay at desmond's place in elmhurst! The whole house looks exactly like in the pictures and everything was clean and cozy! The subway station is a bit far but we didn't find it as a difficulty! We arrived at 9pm but Desmond was there to greet us and to tell us about the amenities! I would totally recommend staying at his place

Jun 27, 2019Had a great stay at the townhouse, was able to drop of my bags before check-in time and get some options from Desmond on things to do in New York. The subway station was about a 10-15 minute walk from the house and overall the neighborhood is nice and quiet. Also, it was nice to have a grocery store down the street from the house.

Jun 27, 2019We had such a wonderful stay! The house is so homey making our stay in New York the best yet. We really hope to stay here again on our next trip. For New York the house felt very spacious and our 3 yo loved having his own big room with plenty of space to set up his train set either up or downstairs. The kitchen was also a good size and had everything we needed to cook our meals. The bathroom was also great with a really nice soaking tub and alternate shower head options. The beds are comfy and the furnishings are all really lovely. We had a snow blizzard while we were there and the heater was sufficient throughout the freezing temperatures. We also loved the neighbourhood with parks at either end of the street, supermarket just a short walk away and close to many other eateries. It was a bit of a hike to the train although I'm not sure I took the best route! Internet was fast and plenty of options on the TV too. Desmond was very responsive throughout our stay despite never meeting him. He also cleared the snow from the steps for us. Overall we loved our stay here and are certainly hoping to stay again in the future. It was our little home away from home.
Jun 27, 2019Our host was attentive and (BIG PLUS) grocery store 5 minutes away. Checking in and checking out was a breeze. Place was very comfortable and clean. One thing to know is when it comes to parking: We had to drive around the neighborhood to find a parking spot but hey its New York.

The private deck in the back is a real gem and we enjoyed breakfast out there every morning. Getting to public transportation was easy and convenient and if you have a subway pass you can use it on the buses up and down Grand St.

Jun 27, 2019The place is really nice. We unfortunately had some issues with electricity when we cam in because work was being done around the neighborhood. Fortunately, Mr. Desmond was very attentive and helpful. He was able to take care of the problem somehow while we were at the US Open watching matches. The place is quiet and in a nice little neighborhood. We didn't have any complaint a about the location. This would be a great location to stay over the winter because it is well equipped with heating. I would recommend this place. Mr. Desmond is a good host.

The neighborhood seems very nice with a supermarket really close and the subway like a 15 minute walk from there. Highly recommended place.
Jun 27, 2019This is our 2nd stay here and whilst the location isn't close to public transport we love the house. It's very homey and a very good space for NYC with large rooms, equipped kitchen and good living areas. The only thing we weren't aware of was the lack of air conditioning. If the weather was hotter it would have been unbearable.

Also, Desmond is always helpful and friendly, in case you need help which we did not really. I totally recommend staying at Desmonds. Everything just as in the descriptions. Cheers
Jun 27, 2019Everything was going fine UNTIL... First the good. Desmond's house is generally clean (if a bit dated) and conveniently situated to transportation, groceries, shopping, a gym, and a park. Desmond himself is quick to respond to any questions sent. And the price presented a pretty compelling value for a family or group of 5+ people visiting NYC on a tight budget who don't need anything fancy. However, there was a bad. Everything was going fine UNTIL... Desmond and I agreed my family and I could stay an extra night since the house was available. However on that final night, a stranger I had never seen before barged into the house from the basement apartment while we were upstairs getting ready for bed. I ran downstairs to investigate and saw a completely naked and extremely intoxicated man had walked through the house to sit on the back deck off the dining room, barely conscious . I confronted him and he got startled and ran off through the back yard. I thought he was an intruder until I turned around and realized he had entered the house from the basement door which was flung wide open. I closed it but quickly realized there was no padlock or way to secure the door. Upon calling Desmond he said the man was "a friend who sometimes stays with him" in the downstairs apartment, and assured me it was a mixup. My wife and I were in complete shock at the experience and had to round up our things and our sleeping children at 11:00PM to go stay somewhere else because we could not stay under those circumstances with no padlock on the door to the basement apartment and a possible naked alcoholic staying below us. Desmond apologized for the confusion but I feel that people need to know that if you stay here you are potentially sharing your living space with anyone that might be downstairs with no way of locking the access door or ensuring privacy. At no point prior did Desmond tell us there was a guest downstairs, much less a naked alcoholic. I would never stay at Desmond's house again, and honestly the experience has us questioning whether we will ever use a home sharing service again.

Jun 27, 201910 min walk to the subway. Take out and a store within 5 mins. Gas heating kept us toasty when we needed and fans cooled us down when the weather changed. The spa bath was a real bonus. Very comfy bed. It felt like staying with friends, a real home away from home. I would happily stay again and recommend to friends.

Jun 27, 2019Desmond was very nice, replied to my messages promptly and let us check in earlier, which we really appreciated. The place is spacious and clean. There was pretty much everything we needed (with a small excepion of a coffee-maker). Also, it might seem a little distant from he downtown, but we didn't mind taking the subway. All in all, a good value for the money.

Jun 27, 2019A great residential place in a quiet neighborhood. Train station is a bit of a walk to get to. By a cab it takes about an hour to get to downtown. Otherwise the place was very spacious, clean and had a modern and vintage feel to it.

Jun 27, 2019Desmond’s place is nice with ample spaces, big enough for 5 people, It is an old row house stile and the basement is not included. The old furniture is nice and the kitchen is well equipped. The back yard needs some TLC but it’s fenced out by the deck. There are train tracks nearby and it can be noisy at night, not too bad if you are a good sleeper or are tired from walking around NY like us . There are steep steps going up to the house and to the bedrooms, not suited for old or disabled. It takes about one hour to get to Manhattan by transit. We would go backto Desmond place.

The beds were well kept and the location was easily accessible to most of New York's touristy places. We would love to stay again with Desmond if we ever visit New York again -- would very highly recommend!

The place is close to our Indonesian community in Elmhurst, so it was perfect location for us. Go to the city is very easy, lots of options, bus, subway, uber. Tons of restaurants near by. Close to big shopping mall. Desmond is super nice person, he really easy to communicate with, quick respons and willing to help me with my baby gears rental, luggages and everything else. Superb host!! Thank you Desmond!!

Jun 27, 2019I called the owner on Sunday at 8pm the week prior to the check-in for directions. I understand that it wasn't the best time to call due to being off hours. I would of told him to call me back whenever he wanted, and hung up the phone, but he kept me on the phone for 5 minutes complaining about "it's his time to relax", and how I was "bothering him while he was out". He went on and on as if someone was standing next to him, and he was trying to impress them about how busy he is with his rental; while being extremely rude to me for no reason. Like I said, if he would of said "it's not a good time", I would of told him no problem call me back whenever and hung up the phone, and it would of been a 5 second call. At check-in the host was nice I doubt he would talk to me in my face the way he did over the phone. The house could of been cleaner. Also there was no A/C on the top floor where the bedrooms are it was unbearably hot unable to sleep in the bedroom, and the only A/C was on the first floor and was undersized to accommodate the whole area.
Jun 27, 2019Très bon accueil et disponibilité. Près transport (1'). Compter 30' environ (bus + métro) pour accéder à Manhattan (on arrive au Nord, juste en dessous de Central Park). A noter pour l'accès à JFK: compter 45' à 1h selon attente, avec air train+métro E+bus Q47. Maison grande. Chambres ok. Salle de bain ok (WC inclus). Cuisine avec meuble un peu ancien mais fonctionnelle. Pas de clim, mais ventilateurs (salon et chambres), mais juste quand il fait très chaud. Très proche supermarché (4'). Ouvert 6h à minuit. On trouve tout. A noter qu'il y a une banque dedans. Quartier calme. Desmond est très disponible et réactif. Bon séjour pour nous.

Jun 27, 2019Rented this for several people for a friends wedding in Long Island. Location is decent, about a 15min walk to the subway was easy. E train runs on the weekends which brings you straight into Manhattan. Plenty of space for 4 people. Off street parking wasn’t a problem. Grocery store 5 min walk away. Only complaint, it’s near train tracks. 2 our of 3 night a train went by around 5am which was kinda loud with the bedroom windows open. But the value can’t be beat! No regrets.

Jun 27, 2019My adult daughters and I stayed at Desmond's place in order to attend the big New York City Comic Con. This space and location provided an affordable and convenient option for the event. The house is spacious, clean, and well-appointed. I appreciated the back deck for relaxation and drinks after a long day at the con. It's about a 20 minute walk/five minute car ride to/from the subway station (one time we took a Juno, the other times we walked, and it was fine either way). The beds were comfy enough, the shower and tub were great, and Desmond provided everything we needed. Communication flowed perfectly, and check-in was a breeze. I'd look forward to another stay!

Es bastante grande, bonita y confortable.Está un poco lejos del metro, unos 15 minutos andando, o pillando un autobus justo debajo de la casa. El dia de nuestra llegada no pudimos ver a Desmond porque llegamos muy tarde, pero el día que nos fuimos si que vino a despedirnos y fue muy simpático y amable. Recomendado.

There were definitely some pictures I wanted to take off the wall. The area was very quiet and we were able to sleep well. If you need a great meal and sports bar I would recommend O’Neill’s. Rob, the bartender was great.

Jun 27, 2019The house offered in this host is completely different to the description and the evaluations read on this page, for this I want to express: 1.The house is a very old place with a strange smell when entering 2. The house must be cleaned and organized by each of the guests 3. Under the beds there is dirt and hair from a long time ago 4.The floor wood creaks and sounds at night 5.No parking on the street, my car suffered a breakdown in the mirror without anyone responding 6.One morning when we wake up we find mice in the kitchen 7.The microwave oven is damaged and does not work 8.The doors of the rooms have no security 9. There are no kitchen utensils for cooking 10.No has air conditioning. The house is located in a good place, but the lack of cleanliness and care makes this experience terrible, I do not understand why other people had qualified it in a five star host, but I do not recommend it.

Jun 27, 2019Perfect stay, the house had everything that we needed. A short walk to the subway and Desmond was very helpful on arrival with tips about the area as well as apps to get around while on our trip. The place was clean and cosy, I couldn’t fault a thing!
Jun 27, 2019Place is nicely decorated with antique furnitures. Parking on the street is very convenient. One thing I didn’t enjoy was the cold at night because there is no heating radiator, and only one gas fuelled fireplace on the first floor heated the whole house.
Jun 27, 2019The house seemed like good value, as it is about 15 min walk to subway. The house is spacious for NY and check-in was seamless. We had a satisfactory stay until our last day... BECAUSE>>> Bed bugs in one bedroom, the others were fine (photos were sent to Airbnb, so far they have done nothing). We had to stay in the other two bedrooms because we couldn't find anywhere else to stay at such notice. There is a door in the kitchen that leads to the flat downstairs. It is locked on the other side so you cannot secure the house. On our last day, we were eating lunch with colleagues when an aggressive man from downstairs (who apparently owns the house) burst in through the front door and accused my colleagues of being hookers! He must have had a key to the front door... We felt unsafe and decided to leave immediately, one night before our check out. Desmond arrived on site and sided with his neighbour and aggressively forced us to leave the property. We were shocked and were worried for our well being so we left within ten minutes. Desmond then accused my colleagues of being "transexual hookers" who "must have brought the bed bugs" to the house... ( he sent this message to us through Airbnb) Our experience at this property is NOT UNIQUE however. Please see Eric's review from September 2017: "Everything was going fine UNTIL... First the good. Desmond's house is generally clean (if a bit dated) and conveniently situated to transportation, groceries, shopping, a gym, and a park. Desmond himself is quick to respond to any questions sent. And the price presented a pretty compelling value for a family or group of 5+ people visiting NYC on a tight budget who don't need anything fancy. However, there was a bad. Everything was going fine UNTIL... Desmond and I agreed my family and I could stay an extra night since the house was available. However on that final night, a stranger I had never seen before barged into the house from the basement apartment while we were upstairs getting ready for bed. I ran downstairs to investigate and saw a completely naked and extremely intoxicated man had walked through the house to sit on the back deck off the dining room, barely conscious . I confronted him and he got startled and ran off through the back yard. I thought he was an intruder until I turned around and realized he had entered the house from the basement door which was flung wide open. I closed it but quickly realized there was no padlock or way to secure the door. Upon calling Desmond he said the man was "a friend who sometimes stays with him" in the downstairs apartment, and assured me it was a mixup. My wife and I were in complete shock at the experience and had to round up our things and our sleeping children at 11:00PM to go stay somewhere else because we could not stay under those circumstances with no padlock on the door to the basement apartment and a possible naked alcoholic staying below us. Desmond apologized for the confusion but I feel that people need to know that if you stay here you are potentially sharing your living space with anyone that might be downstairs with no way of locking the access door or ensuring privacy. At no point prior did Desmond tell us there was a guest downstairs, much less a naked alcoholic. I would never stay at Desmond's house again, and honestly the experience has us questioning whether we will ever use a home sharing service again." We were very disappointed because our trip to NY was very successful apart from this crazy incident.
Jun 27, 2019We had a great stay at Desmond's -- he met me in person for check in and showed me around the townhouse (which looks exactly as pictured) even though I arrived late in the evening. He provided parking tips, and let me know about the various coffee, grocery store, and food options that are within walking distance from the house. It was cozy, clean, and quiet -- perfect for our group. We'll be back!

Jun 27, 2019This is a great townhouse with three bedrooms and one full bath. Starbucks, groceries and liquor store just down the street. It was perfect for what we needed as we attended a conference not far from here. You can tell Desmond takes pride in the place and we really appreciated the value we received. You can't beat it! We would not hesitate to come back again! Thanks for a wonderful place to hang out Desmond!
Jun 27, 2019It is an older but quaint and cozy, warm townhouse. The beds were comfortable. We cooked breakfasts there (no coffee maker so we bought coffee on way to subway) and ate lunch and suppers out. We walked to the subway station (about 15 min walk) Desmond was so helpful in helping us find our way around. He responded very quickly to our questions and comments. We were able to check in earlier so we had extra time down town. Would recommend his place anytime.
