***Some parts of the apartment have low ceilings, therefore it may not be 100% comfortable for people taller than 5.9ft (180cm). *** This apartment has a small fridge, microwave, hot plate and an electric kettle. It does not have a full kitchen. *** Our family does live above and we have small children. We will do everything in our power to keep them quiet in the early morning hours, but they are energetic and our floors are creaky. Hence we don't recommend this house for people who sleep all morning/day. *** No windows in the common space and bedroom. Just one little window in the bathroom.

Jun 27, 2019My stay was very pleasant. I arrived later than expected and Vanda communicated with me on my way to the destination and we arranged my check in verbally. My privacy was respected all through out my stay. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs to travel to this area.
Jun 27, 2019Vanda and her husband were very warm and welcoming hosts! They live right above the basement and were there to greet me when I arrived. Vanda was very flexible with my check-in time. Vanda was also very accommodation of an additional guest joining the reservation at the last minute! The apartment looks just like the photos in the listing, and the wifi works very well. There is not a full kitchen - a hot plate, microwave, 1/2 fridge, and sink are provided. The only problem with the apartment is that the roof is not well insulated, and you can hear all activity on the floor above. Vanda and her family are not up late or extremely early, but when they are up and about, it is easy to hear in the basement.

Jul 27, 2019Vanda and her husband were super accommodating hosts and were very responsive to texts and messages. The location is near public transit, within walking distance to Rockaway beach, and there is on street parking. There is also a really neat surf bar/restaurant called Rockaway Beach Surf Club half a block away that makes you feel like you stepped into a bar somewhere in Cali. It was a nice surprise and they have great Tacos. As mentioned in the listing, the ceilings are pretty low, so if you're above six foot just be careful not to hit your head going down the stairs etc. The bed is firm but comfy, and the shower had amazing water pressure. The apartment is simply furnished but has everything you need to have a comfortable stay.
Jun 27, 2019Vanda was a wonderful host! She was very understanding of our late check in and was very responsive whenever we tried to contact her. Her home is lovely and very clean! The shower also had hot water (A+). I thought the ceilings would be too low but my boyfriend (who is 6ft) felt comfortable enough to walk around ok (he just avoided the lower parts). Unfortunately I didn't meet Vanda but her husband checked us out and he was lovely! Would definitely stay again.

The Rockaways are magical, especially the Rockaway Beach Club, right around the corner from this rental. If you're seeking basic, budget accommodations that offer privacy and close beach access, this is it.
Jun 27, 2019Apartment is exactly as described. No frills but you can't beat the fact that it is walking distance to the beach, some cool bars and restaurants and of course the surf club around the corner. Extremely clean and check-in/check-out was a breeze.

Jul 27, 2019Great location near the beach and close to lively spots. Communicating with the host was easy and they were friendly. The apartment has a separate entry which is good. The apartment was clean and the host had a lot of helpful details, travel size lotion, shampoo, etc, fruits. I would definitely stay here again.
Jun 27, 2019We loved staying at this basement apartment. It was very close to JFK and easy to get to. We wanted to go surfing in New York, which was easy because the beach was 5 minutes walk away. There are some cool bars and breakfast places nearby, and it was just an hour on the ferry to Manhattan. We walked to the ferry about 20 minutes away and it was a great way to see the statue of Liberty. My boyfriend is 6ft but he was fine walking around it the basement. It had a nice big shower and cooking facilities. Vanda was helpful responding to all my messages and made us feel at home. I would really recommend staying here:)

Jun 27, 2019Vanda is a great host. She suggested that we take the ferry from Wall St. to Rockaway which turns out to be a really good way to get there. We enjoyed a day at the beach and talking to her neighbors. We also had a good time walking the new boardwalk in the evening.
Jun 27, 2019Vanda was super helpful and responded in great time. She made check-in and check-out easy and we appreciated her providing some extra's for us when asked. This room is private and very large. We loved being just a couple of blocks from the beach side and some of the restaurants there. Great burgers at Rippers, but get your organic juice on 96th on the bay side. The room is in a basement as noted and the only window is in the bathroom so the room is on the dark side and probably great for day sleepers! If your sensitive to mildew I would not suggest a basement room. The room was sufficient for the type of trip we planned since we planned to be on the beach or out and about most of time.

Jun 27, 2019I'm 6'5 and I walked around without a problem; the ceiling is there but I'm just used to bending my head over around doorways anyway. Bed was comfortable and shower was nice. Close to literally everything and easy area to navigate. Next door is literally the best fish taco ever at the Surf Club.

Jun 27, 2019This is such a great spot if you want to be close to a lot of neat things near the beach. Its right around the corner from the surf club, down the street from great coffee shops and food. And Vanda couldn't be nicer. Highly recommended.

Jun 27, 2019Very recommend to you all! Vanda’s apartment is perfect and cozy place for a single or a couple. Me and my boyfriend stayed there for a month and everything was great. You have your own entrance and privacy. Although it was winter and very cold, there was always hot water in the shower and in the sink. And as well, the apartment always stayed warm, even without a heater. Vanda and her husband helped us at anytime in any need. They are both very kind and good people. We even got a little present for the New Year, which was very thoughtful. The apartment is very close to the subway, bus stations, laundry mat, pharmacy and supermarket- every thing you will need for your staying. The WiFi was perfect and strong and worked all the time. Thank you Vanda and Andrew. Hope to come again someday. Gidi &Eli.

Jun 27, 2019Viaje con mi esposa para visitar e ir de compras en Nueva York. Si paras en Manhattan esta todo mas cerca pero por el triple del precio. En el alojamiento de Vanda, es mucho mas económico, y como quien va de visita a Nueva York, solo va al alojamiento a descansar, el lugar de Vanda me pareció espectacular con relación al precio y comodidad. Si bien es cierto que esta en la parte de abajo de su casa, es cómodo, tiene un estar y un dormitorio separados, un pequeño baño y una cocina para desayunar. Lo de los techos bajos, no es así ya que nos movimos con total comodidad. Si bien es cierto que se escuchan los pasos del piso superior, nos ayudaba para levantarnos temprano y tomarnos el metro, que transbordo por medio lleva al corazón de Manhattan (recomiendo adquirir por 30 dólares la tarjeta ilimitada de una semana. La playa esta a unos 300 metros (no sabia que había playa en Nueva York) Hay muchos deli y supermercados muy cerca. Fue increíble la predisposición de Vanda para recibir paquetes que había encargado por Amazon y Ebay. Muchas gracias y volverla a ir.

The place was exactly as described and Vanda has put a lot of thought into making the place comfortable with a lot of small amenities, for eg, list of places to eat around, the map for how to get around, well equipped kitchenette etc. The place was clean and private. Highly recommend.

Our host description of her place was very accurate and it was a great value for the price, additionally, having our private entrance and private bath was a huge bonus! Jun 27, 2019We had a good stay. The location is convenient to a restaurant/bar, a grocery and a pharmacy. The photos depict the unit accurately, but there is no bathroom sink. Unless changes are made, the unit smells mildewy like the basement that it is and towels fail to dry adequately. If you like to get up early and get out sightseeing, the children upstairs will wake you up promptly at 7:00 am. :-) The TV is Firestick; no cable or local channels. The parking is first come/first served street parking. We used Uber/Taxi or walked. For a Rockaway home base location, it is an OK choice.

Jun 27, 2019Highly recommend for solo travelers/couples. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed staying at Vanda's basement apartment. It was very clean and cozy. The bed was super comfortable. The location is great too. Close to the beach and many restaurants/shops. There is also a strip mall nearby for food and groceries. Overall, we had a pleasant stay. Will totally recommend and go back to Vanda's place next time we stay in Rockaway.

Super accommodating. Met Vanda’s husband, he was friendly to us and gave us great local recommendations. The price is right!

Jun 27, 2019Bring a flashlight to get into the place - very dark. Be aware there are no deadbolts on the door. Ask host to communicate checkin well before the trip. Anyone with difficulties with steep stairs should not use this place. Not well lit.

The flat is very clean and all the basics one would need are there, as well as special touches- chocolates and brochures.I was concerned about not having A/C as it was very hot,but it was completely comfortable in the flat with the fans. Vanda offered self check in and out and was responsive to all of our questions. Her husband helped us with the TV and gave us advice about the area. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a budget accommodation near the beach and restaurants.
