Make my spare bedroom your home away from home when staying in fantastic Sydney. It's been a few years since I've had airbnb guests but I thought it might be a nice change to have a few more. Availability will be limited so hopefully your trip and my dates match. I'm probably at the bottom of the search results and my photos aren't professional so read the old reviews because you might have found a great place to stay. It's only a short walk to some of Sydney's best restaurants, pubs, bars, cafes, shopping It's two minutes walk to Central station (really!), there's plenty of taxis nearby and buses to the Eastern suburbs beaches, UNSW and beyond. I also have a hair dryer even though I don't need it myself. One less thing for you to pack. Getting to my apartment from the airport is super easy and the proximity to the CBD and train station are my apartment's best feature. And it's all on a relatively quite street. Please check with me about check-in times as I work Monday to Friday which makes check-ins during the day impractical. Either very early in the morning or after 6.00pm is best. If you're arriving on the weekend any time is usually ok.

Rules
No smoking, pets, random guests or drugs you can't take through airports. Keep the kitchen clean and please don't keep food in the bedroom. There is plenty of space in the kitchen to store food. Treat my apartment, the building and my neighbours with the same courtesy you treat your own. I work full-time so check-in is typically after 6:00pm. This is flexible for weekends and public holidays so please discuss it with me prior to booking.

Gavin's place is very clean and well laid out and is ideally located close to Central Station. We stayed for four nights over New Years Eve and enjoyed our time immensely! What we liked the most was the host! He is a very good person, respectful, cordial and polite at all times. He even made time to show us the tourist attractions as well as some of the local hotspots. We shared some great evenings with Gavin and enjoyed the conversation on a range of interesting topics. During our stay, I also had the chance to introduce him to my favourite European drink "the Hugo" which went down a treat! ;) We enjoyed staying in Surry Hills and can happily recommend the place and the host, and if given the chance would gladly stay there again.
Jun 27, 2019Gavin's apartment is located in the heart of the city, not far from the Central station, at the same time the street is very quiet and peaceful. The apartment is very clean, well-organized and balanced. We had a feeling that we were at our own home (also we cannot forget the incredibly delicious ice cream - Gavin certainly knows the simple pleasures of life and doesn't mind sharing them with the guests). The guest bedroom is quite spacious and comfortable, with pillows of 2 different heights to choose from (not a frequent option in B&Bs). Gavin is a nice person, and knows a lot about his country and city. His travel suggestions for our further trip in Australia have helped us a lot. Very good place, excellent host.
Jun 27, 2019It goes without saying, Gavin was a great host and guide. We stayed with him for two weeks, and couldn't have asked for a better place. His home is lovely, clean and there was always plenty of fresh fruits for breakfast. The bed was really comfortable and the room was quite convenient. Upon our arrival, after 30+ hours of flights and airport, a great home cooked meal and a bottle of wine was waiting for us. With all his great tips about Sydney and the area (he would sometimes plan a great day trip for us), he really made us feel at home and welcomed! Jun 27, 2019Gavin's a very nice host,he'll basically try his best to answer your questions happily and talks with you easily. He allows his guest to fully utilize his accommodation which we appreciate very much. He made an effort to stock up his kitchen with full of foods upon our arrival. The location is amazing with free shuttle bus and central station (train) around the corner. His place is clean,tidy and big enough to accommodate quite a number of people in fact. The setback is there's no air conditioned which was what he'd mentioned. It gets quiet at night that we felt insecure while on the way back but so far,it's fine for us. Overall, it's a good stay for us!
Jun 27, 2019Staying at Gavin's place was our first airbnb experience and he made it very easy for us to feel at home... We really enjoyed our stay at his apartment. Gavin was always very helpful, gave us some advice what to see and where to go in Sydney and was always open for a nice chat at home. We even stayed at his place a 2nd time on the way back to Germany and it felt like coming home for us... :) If we should ever come back to Sydney, we would also be checking in for a 3rd time if Gavin is fine with it! :)
Jun 27, 2019We stayed 3 nights at Gavin's flat; it was really convenient because next to the Central station, CBD, Chinatown etc (the place for cheap food). About the home, the living room and the kitchen form especially a nice and spacious open-space. We could finally book one more night at the last minute. Thanks again Gavin for your welcoming and all the lovely "gift" foods, we rediscovered the peanut better thanks to you!
Jun 27, 2019Firstly, Gavin's place has a superb location! Only 3 minutes' walk to Central station thus extremely convenient. From Central station, you are able to take the train or light rail to almost everywhere! Surry Hills is an awesome area and we were spoilt for choice for every meal. It is also within walking distance to Darling Harbour, Chinatown, George St, Darlinghurst etc. and a short bus ride from Bondi beach. Gavin is very approachable and friendly and it was a pity we weren't able to hang out much; we were out exploring most of the time. He gave great advice about travelling to various locations, which bus to take and which way to walk and we really appreciate that! The room was adequate for us with good space for our luggage. The bed was really comfortable with 4 pillows and we slept really well during our 5 nights there. Also, the apartment is very neat and tidy and great to return to after tiring days out. This was our first Airbnb experience and it will definitely not be the last! Ying Shing & De Yong

Jun 27, 2019Gavin was kind enough to make arrangements for an early check-in when we arrived in the morning, even though he was at work till evening. Instructions were clear and he was always prompt in replying to our queries. The apartment was simply decorated but clean, uncluttered and Gavin had provided us with towels and even kindly helped change our sheets for the comfortable bed during our 10 days stay. The bathroom too was clean and spacious and Gavin picked up after us to make sure it stayed tidy. Breakfast - various kinds of tea, cereal, bread, constant supply of bananas and milk- was great. He even taught me the tip for a good Vegemite toast. All in all, everything we needed was available and easily found. Gavin was very helpful with what we may have needed and basically allowed us make ourselves completely at home. The bonus was a very useful and top notch hair dryer (sorry for the noise). Wish we weren't always out and got to chat more. See you again hopefully! All the best, Mae.
Jun 27, 2019There isn't much we can add to all the glowing reviews from everyone else except to confirm that it is all true! Gavin was a very welcoming and accommodating host, and we really enjoyed over evening chats with him over dinner. The flat is extremely well placed and is clean, tidy and has everything you could need. We were a little surprised by how chilly Sydney winters could be in the mornings so bring wooly socks! Gavin, thanks for making our first visit to Sydney so enjoyable.
Jun 27, 2019Gavin was by far the best host I had in Oz. (the others were good too) He was there when I arrived, nice, a good conversationalist, good tips, and shared with me his honemade cooking. His place is just a few minutes walking from Central, the main train stationin town. Plus, it was a 3 minute walk to my favorite coffee shop, Di Bella, that he told me about.
Jun 27, 2019We enjoyed a lot our week at Gavin's home. He gave us good advice and thanks to him we learnt a lot of things about Australia. Don't worry if you don't speak very well English, Gavin takes care about speaking slowly and clearly ;) so pleasant! His flat is well located, next to Central Station it was very convenient for us! His flat is also clean, tidy and our room was large enough for us and our luggage. To conclude I think it’s the best place to be in Sydney! :)

Jun 27, 2019This was our first Air BnB experience and Gavin from the start was prompt and professional. As our flight was early, Gavin kindly made arrangements for my friend & I, to be able to check in early. The location of the apartment is amazing. It is literally less than 5mins walk from Central Station. The room is much larger than what we expected from the pictures, it had plenty of room for our luggage. The apartment was clean, the room and bathroom immaculate, bed and pillows were comfortable and clean. Gavin even has a hair dryer for us ladies or guys with really long hair. We spent the day wondering around Surrey Hills and coming from Melbourne I need my coffee in the morning, Sample coffee on Devonshire st and Le Monde on Foveaux St has amazing coffee and it is just around the corner less than 5mins walk. That evening we spent dinner with Gavin and had a enjoyable conversation while watching my AFL team WIN, GO HAWKS! Gavin is a great host making us feel welcome and comfortable, making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Living in the area Gavin knows where everything is, is it spot on with recommending place to eat around Surrey Hills and its all within walking distance( I have said that enough already? lol). YOU MUST try the pie's at Bourke St Bakery and Churros from Movida. As you can see I'm BIG on food. I Loved that we were only 5 mins walk away from china town, there is also a taxi depot in the next street so we had no issues getting a cab. If you are down for the weekend over spring head down to The Rocks for the markets and eat macarons at la renaissance café and the food stalls there amazing food! If your a foodie like me my favourite places to eat was: Din Tai Fung for dumplings, be prepared to wait but they are worth it, Gumshara Ramen for their thick tonkotsu broth and N2 ice cream in Chinatown, Ms g's for a twist on Vietnamese food in Potts point. Around Surrey Hills Morh fish, Bourke st Bakery, Ruben Hills and Chur Burger. All in all , with our bellies full, our legs and feet exhausted we had a great experience in Sydney and staying with Gavin and would defiantly stay again without hesitation.
Jun 27, 2019Gavin's place was cosy, well-kept and really clean! Conveniently located near Sydney's Central train station, with the CBD just a further 5 mins walk...Gavin was a great host too - recommending food places, places of interest and even taking time at the end of a long day at work to chat with us and share on the history of Sydney :) Wouldn't have made much sense out of random chalk marks on the pavement otherwise..! Would definitely recommend Gavin's to anyone, and stay there again on our next visit!

Jun 27, 2019It was a great experience staying there! Like what Gavin has said, it was really a few mins walk from central station. If you need to have air con in your room, then this will not be the place for you. And yes, the toilet door has been fixed! Do note that it will be a shared toilet with the host. Satisfied with my stay, if you're looking at a place just to wash up and sleep while on holiday in Sydney, this is the place for you.

Jun 27, 2019This was my first time using AirBnB and it was really easy. Gavin was a great host - very prompt response to the initial booking, clear and easy instructions to get to the apartment. He was also friendly and helpful with recommendations for restaurants, activities, and even some interesting books! The location was great - really handy to the train station for coming in from the airport, and close to the CBD, Paddington and Surry Hills for shopping. The room was simple but spacious and nice and clean. Highly recommended.

I spent 3 days in Sydney and every time went out just rely on walking. Next time when I go back to Sydney, will definitely choose to stay with Gavin again.

Jun 27, 2019We had a nice room in the perfect location to explore Sydney and surroundings. We had a good bed and shared the fine shower and kitchen with our host Gavin. Gavin was very friendly, and let us come and go whenever we wanted. We didn't see him a lot, but when we did he always had time for a chat. There was some confusion about the dishes, unfortunately, but this was our first AirBnB experience and we weren't sure about the house rules.

The location is a good starting point for the exploration of the whole of Sydney and with the detailed directions from Gavin, it's also easy to find. All in all we can only recommend the stay!
Jun 27, 2019Galvin was accommodating as I arrived early on a Sunday morning. The location near the central train station was fantastic for me to arrive and depart by the airport and also to go visit friends in Paramatta. The built in bench in the bedroom was very convenient for spreading out my stuff. I liked having some good places to eat nearby. The Shakespere over on Devonshire had great food at a cheap price. If you want a great location for seeing Sydney and the surrounding neighborhoods this is the place to be.

Location- very near to city/ china town etc all within walking distance Gavin was very accommodating as we arrived in the morning on a public holiday. He is a very easy going and hospitable host with minimum fuss and everything was well organized when we got there. Definitely recommend Gavin to those who would like to visit Sydney, we definitely will stay at his place if we visit Sydney again! Thanks Gavin!!

The best part is that Gavin is always up for a conversation about anything (thanks for the insight into Australian politics!). Anyone who wants to experience the beautiful Surry Hills neighbourhood should stay here. It really is incredible.
Jun 27, 2019Gavin was a great host! He was welcoming, friendly and great to speak with. He knows the area quite well and is always willing to offer advice. Although we didn't see him too much we were lucky enough to have Gavin come along to breakfast with us before we left. He showed us some great places to eat and was very entertaining. The room was exactly as advertised, except the bed was brand new and super comfortable. The bed in the current picture doesn't do it justice. Surry Hills is excellent. It's about a 10 minute walk from some great bars, and cafes and about a 5 minute walk from Central train station. Overall it was a wonderful stay.

Jun 27, 2019Had a brilliant stay at Gavin's place, which is conveniently located a short walk (less than a minute) from Central Station and also a reasonably short walk (15 -20 mins) to Oxford Street. Gavin is a friendly and engaging host and made my brief stay enjoyable.

Gavin's appartment is very well located - just a few step further and you are in Central Station - in a cool and trendy neighbourhood. Jun 27, 2019Gavin's place is incredibly convenient, only a couple minutes walk from Central Station. This meant that on the morning we flew into Sydney we could go straight from the airport to Central by train and leave our suitcases there for the day while we did some sightseeing, then we picked up our cases in the evening and walked round the corner to Gavin's. Easy! And the place was so central that we could easily get to all the tourist destinations we wanted to either by foot or by a quick train ride from Central Station. Another great feature of Gavin's place was the bed - it was soooo comfortable! I actually came down with the flu whole we were there and had to spend a couple of days on bed, and having a cosy bed to sleep in all day really helped. Gavin was polite and friendly and gave us lots of privacy, which we appreciated. The place was clean and exactly as advertised. It's not a luxury hotel to spend lots of time hanging out in, it's more a convenient base to sleep in for people who want to spend their days out and about seeing Sydney. The only negative about the place is that we were there during an exceptionally cold and rainy week in Sydney, and the room had no heating so was very cold overnight. But I'm sure during a normal week of Sydney weather the room temperature would be perfect. We were just unlucky with the timing of our visit. All in all we recommend Gavin's place for anyone wanting a clean, easy, convenient base right in the middle of Sydney. Thanks, Gavin!
Jul 27, 2019Great location! Gavin's place is right around the corner from the busiest public transportation station in Sydney. This made getting around easy and allowed us to take full advantage of the time we had. The room was very spacious and had all the essentials. Gavin was a great host! He made us feel at home at all times and even asked us to join him to some local sporting events. He gave us great tips on Sydney, and answered any other questions we had. Overall a great place to stay in Sydney!

Bed really comfortable & quiet area,easy to sleep. Very central location, we walked everywhere only used buses for beaches. The stop for these around the corner from apartment. Jun 27, 2019The apartment is ideally located in a cool suburb of the city with plenty of bars and cafes nearby (we recommend the Dove & Olive!) The room was basic but clean, and Gavin kindly provided us with towels. Gavin was welcoming and helpful and able to offer local tips and travel information.

After I arrived at his place, a short, easy, and safe walk from Central Station, we went to coffee at one of his favorite local spots, which I appreciated and enjoyed. The room in his apartment where I stayed was newly painted, comfortable, and clean, and the WiFi connection was solid, which enabled me to call home to the U.S. using (Hidden by Airbnb) . Throughout my stay, I enjoyed my conversation with Gavin about sports, culture, and life, and he catered his assistance to my needs. If you want a great location (especially if sticking to mass transit, which I recommend) and an even better host, I recommend staying here as Gavin helped to make my first days in Australia enjoyable ones, and I thank him for it!

We were easy to talk with and get along well with each other. There're all same as describe, even much better than it, special room, comfy bed, clean and well-appointed home, excellent location... My mum and me definitely enjoyed staying at Gavin's place. There's no doubt that I will be there. I highly recommend you to stay at Gavin's place.
