Neighborhood Overview
This studio is 15 feet from our other vacation home and has 7 acres of grassland surrounding the unit. Peaceful landscape with horses and cows along the drive up. The studio has a private patio overlooking the ocean. This is a quiet and peaceful location with a perfect temperature and breeze. We are located 10 minutes to Hilo, 10 minutes to the nearest beach (Honolii Beach Park), and 50 minutes to the Volcanoes National Park((Re-opened 9/22) Also Hawaii Botanical gardens and Akaka Falls are nearby. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Notes
There is small area with hot plate, small refridgerator, microwave, and coffee maker although( there is not a kitchen sink). -We have a Roku unit with flat screen TV where you can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube etc. The studio accommodates up to four people(2 beds) if using fold out couch. Please let us know before arrival if you would like it set up. The studio is private- it doesn't share any walls with other buildings and has curtains-yet it is near the main house on the property.

Access
The road to the house is a dirt road so please drive slowly. Any kind of car can access the house if driving slowly and using caution. Guests have a close parking spot near their studio. The studio is equipped with a microwave, hot plate, coffee maker, dishes, and a small refrigerator. There is not a kitchen sink- just the bathroom sink. Guests are welcome to sit on private porch near the studio, use barbecue, or walk the road in the neighborhood.

Directions provided in advance were helpful. Nice cottage, hostess Amy had homemade banana bread which was a nice touch. We only slept overnight, literally 9 hours but it was clean and comfortable.

Jun 27, 2019Nicely appointed studio set in a bucolic farmland with an amazing view of the sunrise over the ocean. Location is rural yet close to everything, which was a great break from the ordinary (and our busy city lives). We met Aimee and she accommodated our late arrival and changes to our plans. The studio is in close proximity to the main house, but is completely a separate space and has its own entrance and parking.

Their house care taker Amy who was there to greet us was wonderfully helpful and very knowledgable about the city, region and what it is like living in Hawaii. The studio was clean, well appointed and a pleasure to stay in. Leave the windows open and let nature sing you to sleep. Wake up with the rising sun, spend your mornings on the porch soaking in the warmth and view of the ocean. We plan to stay here again on our next trip to Hawaii and highly recommend you stay here.
Jun 27, 2019Amy, Sharon & Mark were extremely friendly to us & we loved our time staying in the Sunrise Studio. The hosts were generous & helpful when we asked about places to eat, surf & snorkel. The studio is actually larger, brighter and nicer than what’s implied in the photos they’ve posted, also. The location is excellent, the view is just as promised and the surrounding landscape is very lush & peaceful. Pretty plants and flowers surround the studio, also.
Jun 27, 2019These were the 1st 3 nights that we spent on the Hilo side. We met Sharon and Amy upon arrival. Immediately we knew that Sharon ( the owner) is a warm and friendly person. Throughout the time we spent there…. every contact was an absolute pleasure. The cottage is set as a separate building but only 10 feet from the main house and didn’t feel private. It is a single room with a walled toilet and shower. We expected more of a kitchen and food prep area than what is there. The very small refrigerator does neither make ice nor keep it frozen and it was necessary to ask for ice from the main house daily. If you want to prepare some of your own meals, the cottage is not supportive of that. Washing dishes and cooking items must be done in the bathroom sink without counterspace while standing on the wet shower floor. I think that our biggest issue was that the whole property wasn’t very well maintained and there was much junk laying around that should have found a trash bin long ago.
Jun 27, 2019This worked perfectly for us; we really enjoyed our three-day weekend on Big Island. Amy, Sharon, and Mark were very welcoming and we enjoyed talking story with them. The house was very comfortable. The apple bananas they picked from the property were delicious! The house got a really nice breeze, which made for perfect sleeping conditions. We will definitely come back.

Everything was very clean with no bugs and the studio has lots of windows for good breezes if it gets hot. Thank You Amy for guiding us in off the main road. Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark (and Amy and Miss Kitty Meow Meow) were wonderful hosts. They were very flexible and willing to accommodate a last minute booking. Sharon even had a plate with fruit and snacks waiting for us we arrived, which was so thoughtful and nice after our long drive. The location of their home is just incredible with 180 degree views out onto the ocean below. It's a wonderful spot to watch the sunrise and the boats coming into the harbor. The room is very cozy and comfortable, just a great little studio, and the actual structure that houses the studio is detached from their home so it offers quite a bit of privacy. However, Sharon always made herself available for a great chat! We found Sharon and Mark to be extremely friendly and accommodating, even letting us use their drier (since this area of the Big Island gets quite a bit of rain, we got soaked on our visit to Akaka falls, so the drier was thoroughly appreciated) and we really enjoyed their company. My fiance and I very much enjoyed our stay at their Sunrise studio and would absolutely stay there again the next time we are in Hilo.
Jun 27, 2019What a wonderful place. Sharon and Mark are great hosts, and Amy was very kind. The room is a cozy little 1/1 Ohana, that had everything I needed. I'm a resident of Kona and was in Hilo for a class at the college so I wanted something that was close to Hilo but enough away that I could study and rest. This was perfect. Comfortable bed, with a spectacular view of Hilo Bay on property. It was refreshing to wake up with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. Jun 27, 2019We didn't get to meet Sharon and Mark, but their little studio was very charming. It is a little off of the beaten path and has an amazing view of Hilo Bay! Amy was very welcoming and accommodating. She had fresh-picked papaya waiting for us and was just a doorstep away, if we needed anything. The studio itself had everything we needed, as we were only there to sleep and shower. I would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you are a nature lover.
Jun 27, 2019We had a great stay at this vacation rental. It was very clean and comfortable. Since the larger unit next door was not rented we got to have our morning coffee on that lanai which had an awesome ocean view. Amy was friendly and we enjoyed visiting with her in the mornings too.
Jun 27, 2019Had a fantastic stay in the little pink studio. It was the perfect space for me. Would definitely be comfortable for 2-3 people as well. I never met Sharon or Mark, but Amy was there and she's amazing. Great for advice or information on where to go and what to see. I ran out of coffee (which they provided) and she happily shared some extra with me. The location is outside of Hilo proper, but I found it super easy to drive in and also get anywhere I needed to go. Thanks again Amy for being such a great host and to Sharon and Mark for sharing your home!

Jun 27, 2019We really liked our stay at the Sunrise studio. The setting is great, with fantastic views over the ocean and the green surroundings. The studio itself is convenient and Amy is a great host. We loved staying on the Hill side (east) of the island. True, there are more clouds, but for people who enjoy an active vacation it is perfect. Relatively close to for example volcano np, mauna kea, hill and some gorgeous beaches. These are not the white sand beaches found on the Kona side, but the green surroundings and steep cliffs around make them very special. Impressive nature and not touristic at all. After also have seen the Kona side, the Hilo side is much more relaxing. It is under 2 hours drive to south kohala, and the way up there through the coast north of Hilo is very pretty, including waipio. We recommend staying Hilo side, and this place is a very good base to explore.
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful location and perfect place to catch the sunrise from a more personal location. Everything was nice and Amy was very welcoming and helpful. I couldn't get the wifi to connect to my phone or computer because of weak signal but that's ok because you won't want to be connected to the office while staying here. Enjoy the solitude.

Jun 27, 2019Stayed here for 4 days with my husband and the place is quite spacious. The only concern we had was not having curtains in one side of the room window and the bathroom. Although it's far away from other houses, just didn't feel comfortable specially when getting changed after a shower for example. Other than that, it was nice and clean and very quiet. Definitely would still stay here when we come back to hilo. Mahalo Amy!!

Jun 27, 2019amy meet us at the exact time we said we would be there, she gave us a walk through of the property and location of the belongings. Over all I felt very welcome and safe. Getting on the property was a little bumpy. The property isn't on the map, and it is not pavemented. However the host gave great directions and we came prepared.
Jun 27, 2019The host was very responsive and reachable at all times. She made sure we had all the information we needed to get ourselves settled down. The property is a bit off road from the main highway, and its recommended that you get there before dark - since the dirt roads that you have to take up the hill are pretty dark and there are no visible signs in the darkness to help you with navigation. Other than this, rest of the stay was pretty good. In the end, it is a basic accommodation close to the waterfalls and other places of interest (Puna) on the east side of the island.

The accommodation itself had everything we needed including fridge, couch, bed, and full bathroom. The sheets were clean and comfortable, and the water ran hot, all good things. The view of the patio is quite nice, worth getting up at sunrise to see.

We checked out Akaka falls, Rainbow falls, and Kaumana Cave while we were in Hilo - all within reasonable distance and amazing. Sharon and Mark were very welcoming and shared fruit, nuts and carrot cake with us! We would definitely stay again!!

Jun 27, 2019Great place to stay! We got a very warm welcome from Sharon, Mark, and Amy upon our arrival. The space is beautiful and secluded, near farmland with cattle and horses. The pictures don't quite do it justice. It's very warm and cozy on a rainy day and conveniently near Hilo. I would recommend showing up before dark the first time since the turnoff can be very easy to miss. (Be sure to follow the directions closely.) Highly recommend!!

Getting to the house was a breeze, since they give excellent directions. The studio is small, simple and close to town. The hosts Mark and Sharon are incredible and genuinely kind. Jun 27, 2019This house is a true gem on top of a very scenic country hill. The home decor is simple but welcoming. We cannot stop talking about all the natural beauty around--the cows, the farms, the papaya trees, the flowers, and all the other greenery. We enjoyed seeing the ocean from the lanai, and ate papaya while star-gazing (just before the rain clouds overtook the sky). It was a great ending to our Big Island trip.

Jun 27, 2019Die Unterkunft war hervorragend. Sie ist sehr ruhig gelegen und trotzdem nicht weit weg von Hilo. Von hier aus sind zb die 'akaka falls' und der 'botanische garten' schnell zu erreichen. Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber und war gut ausgestattet. Die Gastfreundschaft von Sharon und Mark ist außergewöhnlich. Wir fühlten uns von der ersten Sekunde an willkommen und haben die Gespräche mit ihnen sehr genossen. Wir können die Unterkunft jedem empfehlen, der einen schönen Hawaii Urlaub erleben möchte. Hoffentlich sieht man sich eines Tages wieder.
Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark are very welcoming hosts. They offered us banana and papaya grown on their property and the place was cozy... felt right at home. The room was VERY clean, bed was comfortable and had all the essentials. Located 5 mins drive to downtown Hilo, yet located on the country side.. truely a gem. A little difficult to get there at first but once you know the way it's very easy. Just follow the directions listed on airbnb. Definitely worth the value.

Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark's AirBNB is the type of vacation rental that I go home to my friends and rave about. We never got to meet Sharon and Mark, but instead was taken care of very well by Amy. We arrived a lot later than originally planned yet Amy was very accommodating wth our late night arrival. Check in was very smooth and the studio itself was amazing. It had everything we needed, from basically a full functioning kitchen to an attached bathroom. Amy was always available by text for anything we needed and was there to say aloha in the mornings. My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed the private, quiet studio and patio that sat on top of a hill and had stunning views of the countryside, beach, and stars at night. I was blown away by the very affordable price and could say it was definitely worth every penny and more. I have nothing bad to say except that I wish we could have stayed even longer. Mahalo
Jun 27, 2019Nice views, quiet and secluded, yet easy to get to Hilo town. If you plan on cooking, this is not the place. Very little counter space and had to do dishes in the little bathroom sink. Bathroom is very tiny, so this was not an easy job. Otherwise a decent place to stay.

Jun 27, 2019I had a wonderful stay here. It was secluded and absolutely peaceful. Their place was spotless, the furnishings were comfy and maintained. They left fruit, coffee, a "starter" breakfast and snacks, just great. I had my breakfasts and several meals on the back veranda rather than eating in town. The kitchen was basic: hot plate, fridge, microwave; wash the dishes in the bathroom sink. What they advertised, so it wasn't a surprise. The caretaker, Amy, was very nice and friendly, and checked in daily to make sure everything was good. The location was secluded, but with that, it is a peaceful place. You'll need a good map or better yet a smartphone w/ map function. I'll come back again if ever I'm on the Hilo side.

Jun 27, 2019The studio is located in quiet area surrounded by lush greenery and has beautiful views of the ocean. Comfortable place and friendly caretaker. The one thing missing from this place is a kitchen sink. If you want to cook meals using the kitchenette the cleanup would be difficult in the tiny bathroom sink. Also it can be a bit tricky to find but once you are there it's fine. Hilo and beaches are a short drive away from this peaceful place to stay. We enjoyed staying there and exploring the Hilo area.
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful views from this secluded spot. We had both mountain and ocean views. We seemed to have the entire ranch to ourselves. We were able to accomplish many things as the Airbnb is close to town. The road to get to the house is very rough. Our car rental took a beating, but we had a good time overall. Thank you very much!

La vue est vraiment belle et l'environnement de la maison avec ses arbres fruitiers très agreable. Le logement était propre, très fenestré et plus spacieux que sur les photos. Jun 27, 2019Located about 20 mins outside the heart of Hilo. This was a tranquil place with beautiful sunrises. The host, Amy, has helpful in getting us checked in. The studio is located right off of a main house, but you have your own space, privacy, and patio. The whole space was comfortable. You are provided with a small "kitchen" with utensils and cookware. There is no sink to clean, but we were told to just leave any used dishes for later cleaning. There is no AC, but most properties on the island don't have them; not really necessary. The way the studio is situated provided enough cool breeze, along with the fan. It is hard to find off the main road, so follow their instructions carefully or use UPS. Would stay again.

Jun 27, 2019BEWARE LOCATION: Getting to this place requires driving up and down a hilly gravel/dirt road with a moderate amount of ruts and potholes. This violates almost all rental car agreements in our experience. It is difficult to find in the dark. This was not included in the description when we booked the airbnb. We strongly suggested it be included (with photos) in the description on the airbnb website. BEWARE PRIVACY: We didn't feel like we had any privacy. The studio is right beside the main house. When the windows are open, you can hear the main house and they can hear you and because of the warm temperatures, the windows need to stay open in the studio. A car arrived at 5:30am and parked right in front of our studio. The headlights lit up the interior through the curtains of the studio. Based on our experience, expect the host to disrupt a part of your stay here. VIEWS: The majority of the views facing the ocean from the studio unit are blocked by bushes and greenery. If you look out at a certain angle you can see a small part of the ocean between the bush and the main house. The exception to this is the view from the private patio - that is a lovely ocean view. Unfortunately, it was too wet to use this private patio for most of our stay. SUMMARY: The studio itself is clean and spacious. The bed is comfortable. The shower pressure is perfect. The kitchenette is perfect for making coffee and heating up breakfast in the morning. The host is very nice and attentive if you have a question (or can't find the place). However, we will not stay here again. We wanted more privacy, accessibility that did not violate the rental car agreement, and quality sleep on our vacation than this airbnb listing offered.

Man kann auch etwas kochen, es hat 2 kleine Herdplatten. Wir waren absolut zufrieden mit der Unterkunft und der Gastgeberin Amy. Hat alles reibungslos funktioniert und mit der Wegbeschreibung, die man bekommt findet man das abgelegene Haus auch gut. Ich kann die Unterkunft absolut weiter empfehlen.

The pull out couch was opened and the linen was on it for our arrival of 4 people. Very pretty outside. Place looked just like the pictures. Thanks for everything!
Jun 27, 2019My husband and I stayed here with our 6 month old son. It was perfect because the bride/groom we were celebrating with stayed in the main home rental. We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay! Amy was great with communicating with us and made sure she was available if needed. Check in/out was easy. I would recommend (if getting a rental) to get one that sits a little higher up. The short road leading to the location is a little bumpy and it could be challenging with a low riding car. Otherwise, beautiful location with great views and a short drive to downtown Hilo.

Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark's place is a great place to be. Spectacular views of the ocean. We enjoyed sitting outside and looking at the ocean.. Not being "techies" we did not have GPS or phone maps to help us find the place, but Amy, the manager, guided us in. It was worth it. The room was very attractive and comfortable. Suggestions about local activities were very helpful. It is very close to waterfalls and the botanical garden and just a small trip into Hilo. We would go back again given the opportunity. Jun 27, 2019This is a destination hideaway! You can stay here all day and just enjoy the beautiful view. The way the windows show the gardens and view makes it a great place to spend a rainy day too. I'm used to a small kitchen so that was fine. The road was not difficult in my Sedan. It was so clean I felt very comfortable. I have never stayed in a more beautiful place.
Jun 27, 2019We had a great time staying here and thoroughly enjoyed the sunrises. To be honest though we did not spend much time here because we were very busy with activities during the day. We did appreciate coming back to this studio as it was both very quiet and very clean. There was quite a lot of space in this studio. We stayed there with two kids and had plenty of room with the pullout sofa. We would definitely stay here again to explore Hilo, nearby waterfalls, and trekking north to the Waipio Valley. I highly recommend this place for quiet and chill folks traveling on the windward side of the Big Island.
Jun 27, 2019This place was a perfect home base for a few days. Plenty of space, all the basics for cooking (mini fridge, hot plate, microwave, coffee maker), and privacy. Bathroom/shower is small and driveway is rough but totally doable with a compact car. Overall definitely recommend!
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful natural surroundings and spacious. Feels like you're well secluded but not too much away from town. Also I liked that a copy of "Big Island Revealed" was in the studio. Overall the studio is an excellent value. The host was very responsive and polite. Note that the dirt road isn't too bad of a drive but you have to check the host's directions carefully. If you rely on the GPS and miss the turn, it may reroute you onto bad dirt roads.

Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark have a beautiful private studio in a peaceful gorgeous location just 10 minutes from Hilo. The location gives you access not only to Hilo area but also Waip'o valley and northern areas if you want to explore. Less than an hour from volcano national park ( though the park is best if you stay in/around volcano for a couple of days. ) The place was super clean and well cared for. It has a private patio with view over fields to the sea. I wish we had stayed there longer. Communication with Amy , the property manager was prompt and clear, as were directions. I would highly recommend!!
Jun 27, 2019The location is great - off a main highway close to Hilo, but the driveway is about 1/2 mile long. Absolutely no traffic noise. Curtains don't quite cover up a couple of windows completely and the bathroom door does not lock - but we did not care since is was just 2 of us. Very quiet place with everything we needed. Good value.
Jun 27, 2019Perfect place for a weekend stay, the hosts Sharon and Mark are super awesome people. The location of the studio seems to be confusing, but, actually it’s not, just pay attention to the details provided by the hosts and you should be fine, we didn’t cook at the place, but you can if you want, as it comes with a small stove (no kitchen, but, it has all the things you need for cooking for 2-3 people. We loved the small farms on the way to location which the hosts have mentioned as a dirt road (dirt road is only 2-3 mins ride), you can also see horses and the 10-15 mins ride to Hilo is by the sea so expect to have a wonderful view every day. Very good place for the price you pay and nice hosts..!

Jun 27, 2019I had a great stay with Sharon & Mark at Sunrise Studio! The location is a little out of town which makes it a nice retreat with beautiful grounds and many interesting birds. The driveway is a bit bumpy but easily managed with a low clearance rental car. Sharon was very thoughtful giving advice about places to eat or see in the area & I was even lucky enough to share some fruit from the garden. Lovely spot!

Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark waited us until after 10 pm and gave us a very warm greeting, which was so nice. The place was an independent house near theirs but it has everything in it. We even cooked our own breakfast everyday. It was 15mins drive to the downtown, not that far. But you do have to have a car. We lost our bath towel at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Oahu and we were worried about that. But the surprising thing was that Sharon and Mark prepared two sets of towels for us and folded them nicely on the bed. Sweet. Highly recommend to stay here.

Jun 27, 2019I booked this place at last minute but I definitely consider myself very lucky to meet such warm-hearted and sweet host and hostesses. The location is great. You can see sunrise from the ocean. The backyard is nice and huge. Amy is the person who helped me check in. Sharon then gave me very good advice for local sceneries and places for food. She also kindly showed me and my parents around the neighborhood. Again I would strongly recommend her place. It will definitely be a plus on your trip.

The studio was amazing and beautiful—you really get a great deal for what you pay for! Although there wasn’t a kitchen, Sharon and Mark were kind enough to provide a microwave, toaster oven, and a hot plate, in addition to pots/plates/silverware. I would suggest this place for those with rental cars, however, as it is a little bit of a drive from downtown Hilo. We were so sad to leave at the end of the stay, because everything was perfect! We whipped up some awesome meals, enjoyed playing with our toddler on their huge lawn and were treated to a beautiful view of the sunrise each morning. Feels secluded and quiet, but still plenty close to groceries, restaurants and other attractions. Recommended!
Jun 27, 2019Sharon and Mark made us feel welcome from the moment we drove up their scenic driveway to the guesthouse. The views of the ocean and surrounding area are breathtaking. The guesthouse was clean, roomy and filled with everything we would need to make ourselves at home. The location is the perfect secluded place surrounded by fruit trees and flowers but also within a few minutes drive to all the amenities of Hilo and nearby attractions. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you Sharon and Mark for making our time here so memorable.

Jun 27, 2019Nice place on the 'wet' side of the Big Island near Hilo in an agricultural area. Not to far off the highway. Great views and own patio. Has everything you need to cook on a Grill, hot plate or microwave. Coffee maker and small refrigerator. Only draw backs were having only a bathroom sink and no AC (Not really needed). Current volcanic activity only rarely affected this area due to prevailing winds. Reasonable distance to many Eastside Big Island attractions.
Jun 27, 2019This was a great property away from the hustle and bustle of the city, tucked away in its own little sanctuary. The property manager, Amy, was so friendly and hospitable. I highly recommend. It is about a 20 minute drive to Hilo, but coming from San Diego, I'm used to needing to drive everywhere. Although, the TV was small, the ability to watch Netflix was a nice perk for the day we spent in relaxing. The only complaint I would have is that the humidity was tough to get used to without an A/C unit. The description clearly says that it is not included, so this the apartment matched my expectation; it was just the weather that was worse than I was anticipating. There was 2 fans that were extremely helpful and allowed us to fall asleep at night with them pointed at us.

Jun 27, 2019The studio is very small and it does not have a functional kitchen. I stayed with my 18 year old daughter> Even though there is a bed and a sofa bed, once you open the sofa bed there is no room to walk around the beds. We opted for sleeping together. We did not cook. I found it uncomfortable to wash my cooking utinsils and food in the tiny bathroom sink. Amy Pennington is the caretaker and she is a licensed massage therapist. She was very helpful and the day I flew back I had a full massage on site "al fresco" with the view of the Hilo Bay. Good stay for 3 nights for 2 people. You do need a car to get around. Downtown Hilo is approvimately 7 miles from the place. Thank You Amy for your hospitality and availability. .
Jun 27, 2019The studio lays on a hill overlooking the ocean and is surrounded by idyllic nature. It is perfect to relax and calm down. To Hilo it is a 20 minute drive and we were happy that we rented a small SUV as the last part to the studio is a unpaved „offroad“ street. The dishes need to get washed in the small bathroom sink which is a bit unhandy and we did not find towels to dry them. The host was always quick in responding when there was a question and the check in and out was easy and uncomplicated.

Jun 27, 2019Perfect little retreat tucked away within a cottage style multi-family home on landscaped country acreage, truly within line-of-sight to sunrise with clear or misty mornings. For a comfortable getaway on the sleepier, rainy side of the island, be sure to spend a few nights taking advantage of the simplicity and privacy of the studio unit. The space includes amenities one would expect to have in certain hotel rooms including wardrobe/mirror, mini fridge, plus a table in one corner. Bonus options included onsite massage therapist, and a loaner vehicle. Definitely need a car to reach this location, with Hilo Town about a 10-minute drive away, but any car is a must have if adventuring throughout Big Island, anyway. Don’t overlook this overall excellent value which is definitely the type of place one could return to again and again.

Jun 27, 2019I came to Hilo with my daughter to visit the University. I was delighted to find this adorable place, at an incredible rate, just a short drive from town. The listing is very accurate. What you see is what you get. The eastern view of the ocean is spectacular. We sat on the little patio with coffee and pineapple, and watched the sunrise. The WiFi worked well. And everything was comfortable and well maintained. You won't be disappointed. A few tips though. It is off road a bit, so be prepared to drive down a long, rocky, bumpy country road to get there. It has a few kitchen essentials, but I'd say it's not a place where you're going to do a lot of cooking. There is nothing at all in walking distance, so anything you might need (food, sundries, drinks, whatever), bring it in from town.

Jun 27, 2019We had a perfectly lovely visit at the Sunrise Studio. *Location* It was very easy to find. We used (Hidden by Airbnb) maps and it took us right to the place. As stated in other reviews, the road to the house can be a little bumpy, but a slow speed will get you there, no problem. And OMG the sunrises. We got up each morning and drank coffee on the private patio overlooking the ocean. It was the best way to start each day. It’s only a few minutes from Hilo and has the benefit of feeling off the main drag and away from any tourist mayhem. *The studio* It has everything that we needed: bathroom (no tub), queen bed, coffeemaker, microwave, mini fridge, and a table to eat at. It even had a TV that we didn’t use because we were in Hawaii. The host provided some nice extras that we didn’t expect: coffee & filters, silverware, plateware & glassware. There was also a hotplate available. But again, the best part of the studio is the patio that has a table and 2 chairs. *The host* Sharon was very welcoming, meeting us in the driveway upon arrival, and leaving us to get situated as soon as she’d given us the rundown. She offered advice on where to go and what to do based on our preferences. The nicest part was that even though she and Mark live in the house next to the studio, you wouldn’t necessarily know it. Everything was very quiet and peaceful and we never felt like we were under foot or too close. We would highly recommend the sunrise studio. I think it’s ideal for a couple, but could easily sleep a couple more on the sofa bed (for a family). Sharon and Mark were great, and if we ever come back to the big island, we’d love to stay here again.

The studio is bright, fresh, spacious and filled with Sharon's unique collection of furniture and art. It feels like she has put her heart into this place and made it very special. The big windows offered a great view, lovely breezes and the sound of rain. The cute little Coqui frogs sang us to sleep at night.
