Cozy and bright little studio apartment with a kitchenette and full bath, A/C and Internet connection. My place is very quiet and peaceful, a bit bohemian yet simple and basic. The building is safe and located in a lovely neighborhood. Nearby are the cafes, restaurants, shops and boutiques and the narrow streets and little gardens that are characteristic of the West Village. The entrance to the High Line is a few blocks from my door, and Chelsea's art galleries are within walking distance. The Meatpacking District may be your favorite with its trendy clubs and outdoor cafes. Buses and subways are two blocks away. Non-smokers only, please.

Wanted to stay in a cheap and cheerful place in the west village. Host was friendly, location is great and the price is reasonable. A bit of a walk up but this is common in NYC.
Jun 27, 2019My stay at Marise's small apartment went very well. It was practical and situated in a great neighborhood.
Jun 27, 2019Marise is a warm and lovely host, very personable.. easy to communicate with... the place is charming, perfect for one or two professional... beautifully located, with coffee stores, subway, buses and stores all around.. I will definitively recommend the place and hope to go back.
Jun 27, 2019Marise was a great host, always available when needed, and very accurate. A nice person to talk to. The apartment is tiny, but very clean. The kitchen equipment is basic, but who would not prefer eating out with tons of great places around?? No need to bring books, Marise Rose has bunches of good ones on the shelfs. The best option if you want to be at the very heart of the Village!
Jun 27, 2019Location, location, location. What a gem! What a price! This simple, cute studio was exactly what I needed for a week in NYC - comfy bed, shower with great water pressure, vibrant amenities-filled neighborhood, and easy access to transit. Marise is a wonderful and very accommodating hostess. I'll be staying here again.
Jun 27, 2019The apartment was in a great location and was everything I expected it to be. Thanks, Marise!
Jun 27, 2019The apartment was in a great location, cheap and fit my needs well. Thanks, Marise!
Jun 27, 2019Host was great, place was as advertised, very conveniently located. Good value for price.
Jun 27, 2019I was very happy with my stay. The apartment is clean and nice. The location is absolutely perfect!! Couldn't be better. West village is such a beautiful area. Marise rose made me feel welcome and safe. I recommend this apartment!
Jul 27, 2019The location is amazing, it's close to the subway, cafes, restaurants, bars etc. The place is cheaper than the comparable once in the neighborhood. It's in the heart of the West Village and it is a typical New York studio that looks exactly the same way it does on the pictures. The window is not street facing and it's on the fourth floor, so the street noise was not a problem for me as it was pretty quiet at night. The host asks in the house rules section of the description to be quiet, so if that works for you, you'll have a good stay. I didn't have any problems with the internet once I connected to the Ethernet cable that the host uses to connect her computer to the router. The apartment door has two locks, so you can be safe and sound at night.
Jun 27, 2019It is certainly nothing fancy but Marise's place offers a great base in the West Village to explore New York. It is only a couple of blocks to some great restaurants, a half hour to the East Village and 5 minutes from excellent subway connections. The apartment itself is quiet, charming and cozy but offers great value given the location and price. Marise is a friendly host who was very flexible and was open with some great recommendations around town.
Jun 27, 2019The reservation was canceled 34 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jun 27, 2019Perfect location, Marise is a great hostess, very flexible and accommodating. Thanks, Marise!
Jun 27, 2019The place was perfect! Just as described, small but amazing location. Marise was very nice and accommodating, I highly recommend.
Jun 27, 2019Perfectly adequate, safe, and cozy place in a great neighborhood. No frills. None needed.
Jun 27, 2019Very welcoming host. The apartment is cozy and well equipped in a great location
Jun 27, 2019Marise's studio is amazing. It is small and simple but is perfectly appointed with everything you need. The location is great -- steps from Abingdon Square and minutes away from everything the West Village, Meatpacking District, and Chelsea have to offer. I recommend the apartment for anyone visiting New York who is looking for a cute, convenient place to stay.
Jun 27, 2019It was a nice experience in a great location, the host was great, I'd recommend.
Jun 27, 2019Apt is in a great location - in the heart of West Village. Marisa was a very considerate and welcoming host.
Jun 27, 2019Easy to meet and get in. Marise called and checked on me a few times as well to ensure all was going well.
Jun 27, 2019Great little studio in a fabulous location. Quiet and secure. This apartment puts you right at the center of everything: West Village, Meatpacking District, High Line, and Chelsea. WIFI was a bit slow but everything else was perfect (including a very comfy bed!).
Jun 27, 2019Marise is a very nice and accommodating host. The 4th floor studio is very cozy and sufficient with a comfortable bed and bathroom. The location is unbeatable, just between Chelsea and Greenwich Village, 6min walk to the 14st/8th ave subway, and Chelsea Market. I even walked to East Village and took me about 12mins. Would definitely book again.
Jul 27, 2019Cosy apartment. Accommodating host. Unbeatable location, it could not be better located to explore the west village!
Jun 27, 2019The apartment is exactly as described. It is a studio apartment right in the heart of the Greenwich Village. Marise provided everything that was needed for a comfortable stay. The only downside was the apartment was on the 4th floor in a building without an elevator so if you have a lot of luggage it will be difficult getting in and out. Overall, it was a good experience and great value for the location.
Jun 27, 2019Really unbeatable value for the location. Relatively quiet at night except for some sort of drainage pipe running through the room. A bit run down and musty like all NYC apartments...
Jun 27, 2019Great place to stay in Greenwich, very centrally located, and was as described in listing, would stay again!
Jun 27, 2019Marise was extraordinarily welcoming and made sure I felt right at home in her cozy dwelling. Her place is a charmingly typical old-style apartment, including the narrow flight of stairs, the chanting pipes, the steaming hot water, the surprising patchwork of wall paint colors, and its rusty yet functional 70s era gas cooking stove. This is the authentic AirBnB experience where the home owner is clearly living there most of the time and shares her space with the occasional guest. In addition the location is perfect and is ideally suited to coming back "home" on foot after a night out in the Greenwich village or Washington Park.
Jun 27, 2019I had a fantastic experience all around. The communication was consistent and I was greeted in a timely and hospitable manner. The location is perfect and the apartment is very nice as well. The bed is quite comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone considering and couldn't have asked for a better host.
Jun 27, 2019A small studio is in run out condition. But you get reasonable price, absolutely great location, comfy bed and welcoming host, sounds like a good deal.
Jun 27, 2019This cosy little reasonably priced apartment is only minutes away from many wonderful cafes and restaurants, Whitney museum, the High Line and Chelsea galleries. A perfect base to explore the entire Manhattan as well. Very clean. The host is prompt to respond to questions, great communication.
Jun 27, 2019Awesome location, although very underwhelming facilities for its price, particularly kitchen and bathroom. Host was very nice at a personal level, but didn't want to be seen by neighbours, leading to a very awkward check-in (including several phone calls and waiting in the street with the suitcases for a while).
Jun 27, 2019Marise was gracious and allowed me to check in early. The apartment is in a fabulous neighborhood. As other renters have said, be forewarned that it is a 4th floor walk up. And great exercise.
Jun 27, 2019Very cozy west village studio apartment.
Jun 27, 2019A nice and cozy little studio in the West Village. A food store right across the street that I have never seen closed, lots of little shops, cafés, bars etc. in the area. Two subway stations within comfortable walking distance. A great place to explore the city. I felt less like a tourist, but more like someone who had just moved to NYC. This is not an appartment that someone rents out all year to maximize profit, it's Marisa's cozy little home that occasionally accomodates guests. Marisa was always helpful and always accessible via phone.
Jun 27, 2019The apartment is in a great location in a very nice part of Manhattan, near West Village and Chelsea. Definitely cozy but adds to the experience of staying in the centre of Manhattan. Marise if very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend to anyone coming the NY on their own.
Jun 27, 2019Marise was very kind. The place was cozy but looked tired. The shower sprayed water everywhere, the fridge was pretty dirty and the bed sheets and pillow cases were old and overused. This was a good place for someone who is on a smaller budget and wants privacy.
Jun 27, 2019Solo apartment Airbnb rentals are dicey business in NYC these days, so some patience and understanding is necessary if you plan to try to rent a full apartment. That being said, my check-in experience here was incredibly awkward because the host wanted my presence to be completely hidden from the rest of the building. This meant meeting up several blocks from the apartment for check-in, hiding around the corner while she waited to see if the neighbors would leave her stoop, being told not to make noise carrying my luggage up the stairs to the 4th floor, being asked not to leave the apartment if neighbors might be in the hallway, and being instructed to ignore the super if they came knocking at the door. I'm not picky when it comes to accommodations, especially when I need them on the cheap, so the fact that the unit itself is tiny and doesn't come equipped with toiletries doesn't matter so much for me. The host is a perfectly nice person, and this review isn't meant to be personal in any way. But it wasn't an especially pleasant or relaxing stay because of the uncomfortable check-in process and the expressed need for me to be invisible to the rest of the building. You get what you pay for!
Jun 27, 2019Marise's place was great and my stay was as expected. It is exactly as described. The location is surely unbeatable. I think it's important to keep in mind a few things, concerning some of the previous comments. When booking an apartment in one of New York's pre-war buildings, one cannot have overly demanding expectations. All of these buildings are very old; the apartments may look dirty no matter how thoroughly one cleans them. That's because the construction is poor. In my opinion, and given the price, Marise's place is a great deal. Marise herself is a very nice and open person. I would definitely recommend the place to someone who's on a budget, wants to be in one of the best locations is NYC, and does not have extremely high expectations. Simple :)
Jun 27, 2019Quaint apartment right in the heart of the West Village- the location is unbeatable. Walking distance from every West Village / Chelsea attraction. Marise was extremely accommodating and went out of her way to make sure I was settled!
Jun 27, 2019Marise, a.k.a. "M," has a great walk-up loft in the West Village that's close to everything. The apartment is a great deal for the location, and is authentic New York. If you're looking for luxury, this might not be for you, but it's a great spot if you want a comfortable place for NY excursions.
Jun 27, 2019She was Great!
Jun 27, 2019The #1 reason to stay at Marise's place is the location, which is great, and the location relative to the price is a very good offer. That said, I would not stay here again, for two main reasons. 1) As a previous guest mentioned in a review, Marise made the check-in process a pain. She asked me to wait on a street corner for 10 minutes because her neighbors were in the hallway and she didn't want to be seen with a guest, and then she took the next 10-15 minutes packing up her belongings while I was in the apartment. I had been traveling all day and all I wanted was a shower and sleep, so this prolonged check-in process was inconvenient and uncomfortable. 2) The apartment was technically clean but was so run-down and dingy that it felt dirty. I realize these are old NYC apartments and I don't expect highly-modern accommodations, but it was everything from the grime in the bathroom tiles to the chips on the walls to the stains on the wood floor. This isn't Marise's fault and it shouldn't deter guests who are willing to forgo some comfort and class for a cheaper alternative, but it didn't work for me. Smaller complaints: There wasn't a garbage can anywhere in the apartment so I had to store garbage in a plastic bag hanging from a kitchen cupboard; the A/C unit didn't effectively cool down the apartment; there was a strange smell in the entrance to the apartment; etc. I think Marise's place is a good deal for budget travelers who know what they're signing up for, but I wouldn't stay there again myself.
Jun 27, 2019Lovely stay at Marise flat !
Jun 27, 2019The studio itself reminded me of the similarly-sized, rent-controlled apartment I once had in Manhattan. Apartments like these are in older buildings which are often poorly maintained by landlords who are eager to "nudge out" long-time tenants and capitalize on higher rents for newer tenants. In this context, some cracked tiles, old appliances, and the like are to be expected. The lack of "polish" some reviewers mentioned is attributable to this. Blame the landlord, not the tenant! Nevertheless, I had a very pleasant stay. The studio itself was comfortable. The location was terrific. And Marise herself was a communicative and kind host. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality!
Jun 27, 2019This is a splendid place in downtown NYC if you are visiting the city on your own. Be prepared for a longer check-in though, as your hostess will not let you in all at once as long as her bad neighbour is sitting on the stairs. That said I enjoyed my stay at Emma's place and I would rent the place again if I have the chance. Emma is very helpful with everything. Xx
Jun 27, 2019This is a good little place at a great price in an amazing location... everything is within walking distance to give you a good flavor of NYC. Marise is very welcoming and and great to talk to while you settle in. There are a few issues with the place.. but that's down to the building itself rather than Marise.
Jun 27, 2019this place worked out _great_ for me and i loved it. however, do read the other reviews and be mindful of some of the quirks of doing airbnb in certain parts of NYC and the quirks common to any older flat in this part of manhattan. if you're ok with all that, traveling solo, and want a very comfy bed in an almost ideal west village location at a very reasonable rate, i very highly recommend this place. great restaurants and pubs literally steps away (including the spotted pig) and a quick walk to several subway stations that cover most of the major lines.
Jun 27, 2019I had a great experience staying here! I planned my trip last minute, but Marise was so helpful, understanding, and welcoming. She met me and showed me around so that I could better adjust, assuring me that she was there to reach out to if I needed anything. The apartment is just as described and was perfect to leave and return to each day. It was extremely convenient to either walk to or take the subway to/from. It was exactly what I needed and made my trip so much better!
Jun 27, 2019Excellent location and cute apartment. I really enjoyed my stay and look forward to using this Airbnb location again!
Jun 27, 2019The host canceled this reservation 33 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jun 27, 2019Marise was very accommodating and wonderful host! The apartment and location were great for a first timer in New York!
Jun 27, 2019Marise's place is perfect for one guest. Much better value then paying for a hotel, and the location is incredible. One of the best areas in Manhattan. I would more than happily stay again!
Jun 27, 2019Marise's place is just as advertised. If you want a true NYC experience in a true NYC apartment, for a great price this is the place to stay. As long as you are okay with forgoing the extra amenities that a hotel provides, I would highly recommend Marise's apartment. As stated before, check-in can be a bit of a process (but this is because of NYC, not any of Marise's doing). Amazing location!
Jun 27, 2019This space is unique. The location is great! Read the prior reviews regarding host check in and expectations when you are coming and going. Marise and I had some communication difficulties in the beginning, but were resolved instantly once we were in person. It was in the low 90’s while I was there and there was a pretty hefty pet odor in the apartment. There is a very small window unit that the host requested be turned off while not in the apartment. It would take a couple of hours for the space to cool off to a manageable temperature in the evenings. There is also a box fan that helps, but the apartment stays very warm, even in the evenings, on hot days. The bed is comfortable, which is a big plus.
Jun 27, 2019As other reviewers wrote, the apartment is as advertised. It's an older, walk up NYC apartment so if you're looking for modern or amenities look elsewhere. It's great if you're traveling solo, looking for something inexpensive in a nice neighborhood, and just need a place to sleep and drop your stuff.
Jun 27, 2019I very much enjoyed my stay at Marise's place. It is located in a great neighborhood with many nice restaurants, shops and bars close by and a vibrant atmosphere. The apartment is a tiny, but cute NYC space. Marise was very friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed meeting her and chatting about NYC!
Jun 27, 2019Apartment is as per the pics and description. It is small but perfectly adequate for a solo traveller. As mentioned in several of the reviews Marise makes the check in and check out process extremely difficult. Travelling and using Airbnb regularly particularly in NYC several times a year I understand the need to be discreet around other people/neighbours within the building. Marise takes this to a different level. On check in she arranged to meet away from the actual building. When at the building door Marise became highly agitated when she thought someone from her building may see us coming in which created a very strange atmosphere. This person she saw turned out to be a cleaner rather than a resident so we eventually headed upstairs to the apartment. On leaving by pre arrangement Marise wanted to meet me to check out of the apartment which I was happy to do so at her request. On leaving the apartment Marise heard someone coming up the stairs and then physically grabbed me by my arm and pulled me in to the small hallway of her apartment closing the door to avoid them seeing us. I found this very aggressive. In my mind this is unacceptable behaviour for her to touch or grab me in any way and made me feel very uncomfortable. I would not recommend staying at this apartment for the reasons listed above.
Jun 27, 2019DIRTY, SMALL I had to clean the bathtub before I used it. The bathroom, in general, wasn't clean. The mirrors were covered in filth. The bathroom sink didn't work and had a layer of dirt at the bottom. The fridge was very dirty inside and out and had a foul smell. The ceiling had water damage that is not shown in the photos. I will be asking for the cleaning fee back. The photo used in the post is stretched out to make the place look twice as big as it actually is. The A/C unit barely worked (our host admitted when we got there that it didn't work as well as it used to) and stopped working altogether after being in the apt for 10min. The host said, "That just happens". Luckily my son was there to help me with my bags and figured out that the unit was, dangerously, plugged into too many extension cords. I met our host a block away from the apt and she said to "I have to smuggle you into the building". She waited at the entrance of the building and waved us up when the cost was clear. My son had to run up 4 flights of stairs with two heavy bags in order to not be seen. Apparently, her neighbors don't want her to rent out the place. None of this was in the description. She then informed me that I would have to listen at the door to make sure no one was in the hall before exiting. There were still dirty dished in the sink that she had to clean and the towels were still at the laundromat. She seemed unprepared for our visit. Can't complain about this. Nice location in the West Village. Would be a good deal if she cleaned the apt and posted a realistic pic of the studio.
Jun 27, 2019I had great stay at Marise's apt! She was very kind and easy to communicate with. If you read people descriving Marise's place, you wouldn't have problems. This is amazing location that has nice bars, restaurants and shops. walking up to 4th floor was bit hard with suitcase but anything else was perfect!
Jun 27, 2019Cozy, great location, and definitely suitable for a single traveler! Overall a great value.
Jun 27, 2019Marise's place is very small and a 3 flight walk up. it is also pretty crowded with her things and there is not a lot of room for the guest. I was fine with this, because I was traveling alone and only staying there a few nights. But not everyone is going to be fine with this. Marise herself is very pleasant to deal with and the neighborhood is one of my favorites in the whole country.
Jun 27, 2019The apartment was clean, comfortable, and in a great area!
Jun 27, 2019Very nice and cozy place! Located in a beautiful area and close to all touristic places in New York. Marise was a great host!
Jun 27, 2019This apartment is a cozy, classic West Village studio. It is not large but suited me fine for my long weekend visit to New York. The bed was comfortable, and the location was super convenient. I was surprised by how quiet the apartment is (for a place in New York) -- it is located in the back of the building, so there is very little street noise, and not much noise from the other apartments around it. The shower had plenty of hot water and the place was warm even though I was visiting during a very cold spell of weather (lows in the single digits). Marise's place is full of interesting books and decorations, showing her love of art and spirituality. I would definitely stay here again.
