Haleiwa Town: Hale Muliwai

Summary

We extend the hospitality of our guest cottage situated on the Anahulu Stream, a mere 200 yards to where the river meets the sea. In walking distance to historic Haleiwa Town. A tranquil 2 bd/1ba retreat. Immaculate new construction built with TLC.

Space

Our cottage is situated 8' off the ground due to building codes. There is one uncovered parking space adjacent to the stairs and outdoor shower. This height sets the house well into the Monkey Pod tree canopy. There is a rumor that the trees might have been planted by hawaiian royalty and may well be over 100 years old. The master bedroom has one CalKing bed, a large closet and two custom built dressers. The second bedroom has two twin beds. An open, covered lanai allows for curling up with a book on the punee (Hawaiian daybed).

Neighborhood Overview

The cottage is situated in a quiet neighborhood where we all look out for one another. Just across the street, is the Loko'ea Fish pond dating from the 17th century, now being restored by Kamehameha Trust. The Anahulu stream is one of O'ahu's longest, flowing 20 miles from the Ko'olau Mountains to the sea. "Anahulu" means 10 days, possibly the time it took ancient Hawaiians to travel it's length. This is a rural area within one of the most popular tourist destinations on Oahu.

Notes

Early morning and afternoon commuter traffic can be heard. The house is heavily insulated, therfore it's quiet inside the dwelling. Trash pick-up occurs Tuesday and Friday around 5:00 am. The 14.41% Transient and GE taxes are not included in the room rate. Owner will invoice guest via Airbnb/Special Request the amount before check-in.

Transit

At the junction of Loko'ea (our street) and Kamehmeha Hwy. is a bus stop. Visitors can ride around the island for $2.50 from this location. Renting a car at the airport allows an easy 40 minute access (depending on traffic) to the property. Once here, you can abandon the car and walk thru the boat harbor to Ali'i Beach Park, great restaurants and retail shops in historic Haleiwa town. Just across the street at Surf and Sea you can rent kayaks, stand up paddle boards and bicycles.

Access

Entire cottage, access to lower lawn, dock for river access if appropriate.

Rules

The rate does not include the 14.41% tourist tax. I will send notice of that amount prior to arrival thru Airbnb. We would greatly appreciate the following: PLEASE utilize the outdoor shower at the bottom of the stairs to wash off ALL sand and dirt before entering the cottage. If there is an excess of sand in the unit at the time of cleaning, there will be an additional $50.00 fee charged thru Airbnb. There is a portable drying rack in the cottage. Please leave shoes at the door which is an old Hawaiian tradition. Indoor slippers/shoes are acceptable. We restored an old kitchen farm sink thus gave up the convenience of a dishwasher. Please use the cutting boards provided for chopping or try out the many great restaurants and food trucks and liberate yourselves from cooking! Please wash all dishes and cookware before departure. We have excellent tap water. Also, there is a filter water pitcher in the refrigerator. We ask that guests attempt to minimize the use of plastic bottles whi

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Morgan's newly renovated loft in Halewia. There was plenty of room, cozy and comfortable lounging living room, and a full sized kitchen with an open concept. We woke up to the birds announcing morning was here, and very minimal traffic sounds. The beach is just down the road. This was the perfect little town in Oahu. Tons of good eats! We had a marvelous stay, and Morgan and George were so accommodating, so kind. I highly recommend her place to stay for your visit. It's helpful to have a car if you plan on adventuring outside of the area. The Parking spot was a little tight, but not an issue.

Picture perfect family stay: Beautiful, stylish and peaceful accommodation on private street with peacocks wandering in the garden, and just 2 minutes walk to the bustling, surfing village Haleiwa with great places to eat (Japanese, Mexican, Italian, local), shop, peruse local artwork or buy/hire surf gear. The property is directly on a river popular for stand-up paddling, and a short walk to numerous beautiful beaches, where you can swim, surf or snorkel. In the evenings you can sit on the dock out the back and watch the turtles swim up the river. The property itself is clean, spacious, exactly as described on the site and beautifully decorated with local artwork, and would suit either a couple or family. For nature lovers there is wildlife a plenty in the vicinity. The owners Morgan & George who live next door are very sweet and welcoming, with helpful ideas for things to do on our stay. We had a wonderful time at Hale Muliwai and would certainly return. Places to visit nearby: Banzai Pipeline, 15 mn drive to see surfers take on the big waves or go snorkelling in the nearby rock pool at Shark Cove. Kaena Point, 20 mn drive plus 1 hr flat walk each way (or you can drive with an off-roader) to western-most point of Oahu with Albatross colony, monk seals and whale-watching. Polynesian Cultural Centre, 30 mn drive, expensive day-out but it is a great place to visit if you have children and worth the cost if you go to the dinner and show.

Our host's made us feel very much at home. They where nice to talk to and were helpful with any questions we had about Oahu. The home was beautiful, very clean and well taken care of. The view out of the back lanai was amazing. Very peaceful with a lovely yard and river view. Our family really liked the neighborhood. It is on a nice quite street where you can live like the local's, away from the tourist's. Walking distance (one block) to the town, restaurants and beach.

Hale Muliwai is a gem! It is ideally located- a short walk into Haleiwa (never worry about traffic or parking!), and a short drive to everything fabulous on the North Shore. The best part- the home is tucked away on a quiet stream, so you truly get a sense of being away. The home itself is more like a high-end hotel- beautiful furniture, linens, finishes, and a fully-stocked kitchen. It was a treat to return to after long days out and about, immaculate but still comfortable. Morgan and George are terrific hosts. A basket with fresh fruit, coffee, and nuts awaited on our arrival and they were available by phone and in person for questions. It is clear they put a lot of time and thought into making a great property and providing a memorable experience for their guests. They are long-time locals, so they had great recommendations for things to do (and things to avoid!). I truly hope to stay at Hale Muliwai again.

Morgan and George are lovely. The location is absolutely perfect for exploring Haleiwa and the North Shore. You can walk almost anywhere in Haleiwa. Tons of restaurants, shopping, food trucks, shave ice, surf shops. Hale Muliwai is adorable. Morgan has decorated it beautifully and it is very comfortable. It's also the most well-stocked airbnb I've ever stayed at. Plenty of dishes, pots, pans, linens, cutlery, implements, reading material, games, beach chairs, towels, and more! There were two of us and we had plenty of space. It was the perfect size for us! It is a second floor unit so if you have little children or people with mobility issues, take that into account.

Truly a piece of paradise! This vacation rental exceeded my expectations. The yard is beautifully landscaped providing a peaceful oasis to relax in. There is access to a gentle flowing river that leads to the ocean and there are a couple of paddle boards for your use. The rental itself was tastefully decorated and as mentioned in other reviews, the kitchen was supplied with so many extra things that just add to your visit. Morgan was a perfect host, always available to contact but still felt like we were left alone. I don't think there is a better location in all of Haleiwa! We could walk everywhere, the beach, shopping and to so many restaurants. This was great when traveling with a multi age family, everyone felt like they had some freedom to go where they wanted on their own. When we return to Haleiwa, we would love to stay here again.

When we arrived at Hale Muliwai, we were greeted by the host (George). Upon arrival, there were goodies and snacks to make us feel welcome in the home (very appreciated after our day of travel!). The home itself couldn't have been more beautiful and well-designed for a family of 4. Truly, the house itself was like a high-end boutique rental (but better!) and it was even more gorgeous than the photos suggest! We loved the lanai, with dining space, grill, lounge seating (I napped there often!), and amazing view of a well-maintained and landscaped yard and lazy river. Our kids enjoyed access to the yard and docks on the river. We cooked most of our dinners at home, and the kitchen was perfectly stocked with all the cookware and basics (oil, spices, etc.) we could need. The home even had beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, and sand toys for our use! The location in Haleiwa was ideal--close to beaches, eating and shopping, yet tucked away on a small residential street. The hosts, Morgan and George, were phenomenal. They were welcoming and accommodating, even checking in during our stay to see if there was anything we needed. George took us on a tour of the river in the boat and offered their kayak, paddleboards, and fishing gear. While it was clear they were there to help or chat if we ran into each other on the property, we had full privacy and autonomy in the cottage. Even aside from our "professional interactions", Morgan and George were just great people and a lot of fun to talk to! For us, Haleiwa is the best place to vacation on Oahu and Hale Muliwai is hands-down the best place to stay while there. We will be back!

We stayed at Morgan's place for 7 days and overall it was a fantastic experience. Morgan was a great host providing great advice and also the use of her kayak and stand up paddle board for use on the river, which was bliss. The house was beautifully furnished, with very comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, and a relaxing atmosphere. It was lovely. The only downside was the traffic noise, if you are sensitive to that. The house was located within a short walk to town and to beaches as well. And it was great for kids as our toddler had a fantastic time looking out at the garden and spotting the wildlife! Overall, we had a wonderful experience.

The 2nd stop on our 3 week tour of Hawaii and again another great spot! The location is perfect for exploring the North Shore and those lovely beaches! A particular favourite was Shark Coves where we got to snorkel with 1000's of beautiful coloured fishes and turtles! Haleiwa has a great choice of restaurants too, I think every possible cuisine is counted for! And not to forget all the delicious shrimp trucks we found along the coast! The unit was a haven of relaxation set in amongst the tree canopies. It was peaceful, clean, tidy and had everything we needed for our stay whether we wanted to eat in, BBQ on the veranda, paddle board on the river at the end of the garden, toiletry supplies, guidebooks, Netflix's and more! So if you are looking to get away from the tourist trap of the south Haleiwa is a great spot! Thanks Morgan and George for a great stay!

I had such an amazing time, the space was more than I expected, i previously lived in Hawaii so staying at Morgan's felt like coming back home, watching the sea turtles swim up the river every night was beautiful, and the neighbors were so kind. Highly recommend this place !

Morgan was wonderful. We travelled from Australia, arriving early in the morning, and Morgan emailed to provide us early access to the property. She was also incredibly responsive to emails leading up to the trip. The property itself is fantastic and in a great location. It was truly a little slice of paradise and serenity but within walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. We made use of the kayak and paddle board Morgan kindly provided and spent most evenings on the lanai overlooking the river. Wonderful property and host!

We had a great stay. Morgan and George were fabulous, and their place was very peaceful. Our kids loved using their kayak and SUP on the river.

My three friends and I had a wonderful stay, and everything was perfect! The home and Haleiwa in general was exactly what we were after - away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but right near local shops and beaches. The backyard fronting on to the creek was serene, and we enjoyed the view (at one point in the company of the neighbour's dog) Morgan and George were great hosts, and had prepared for everything we needed. We unfortunately experienced a medical emergency during our trip, and Morgan went out of her way to check in multiple times offering help and to make sure we were OK. Our appreciation for Morgan and George's support is deeply felt. Whilst we weren't able to take up on their offer to be shown how to use the kayak and SUP this time, it gives us more reason to come back and stay there again! We cannot recommend this place enough, and only fear that it won't be available when we return! Thank you again Morgan and George!

Morgan was prompt in answering all my queries before arrival. We arrived late at night, but had been provided excellent directions, and cell phone numbers in case we needed them. The cottage lights were on, and Morgan had graciously provided a beautiful fruit plate, banana bread, tea, coffee and milk, so we would have something for breakfast. There was so much about the cottage that we loved: the walkable proximity to town and beach; the very private and beautiful jungle-like setting; the situation on the river and the easy access to the paddle board and kayak; the birdlife and bird sound including the flock of peacocks; the cottage size and décor and the wonderfully comfortable veranda. Morgan and George were perfect hosts. We felt completely on our own, but they were there when needed, and we very much enjoyed our passing interactions.

We had an amazing stay here! We loved the house and amenities that came with it, looked just like the pictures. We got to try stand up paddling for the first time and loved it! Loved the location, walking distance to town. We'll definitely be back!

This place is amazing. Location is perfect -- home is on private road but walking distance to everything you'll want to do in Haleiwa. Construction is new, furnishings are high end and kitchen is fully equipped. Property backs up to lovely stream that offers peaceful views from private lanai. On top of all that, the hosts were amazing to us and went way above and beyond with special hospitality. Highly recommend!

This place is amazing! We had a wonderful week here, the cottage is fully equipped and well beyond our expectations. Furthermore, Morgan and George made everything to make our stay even better. Can't wait to get back there again. Highly recommend.

Morgan and George made us feel incredibly welcome upon arrival on Christmas Day and Morgan added nice touches to our units such as holiday decorations and a welcome postcard with treats basket. The location is PERFECT, walking distance to town, beaches, food trucks and is overall an incredible "country" getaway for North Shore Ohau. Our son loved access to the house yard and deck in addition to chasing peacocks while strolling to town. The house is fully stocked with everything you'd need for a perfect beach day --chairs, towels, bags, toys, boogie boards. Thanks Morgan and George for making our Christmas stay so easy and fun! We stayed at "Hale Muliwai" (House at the River's Mouth) for an entire month, and couldn't have found a better spot to stay! Before our arrival, Morgan checked with us to make sure we would have everything we needed for a month long stay. To say that the home and grounds are beautiful is an understatement. Interior finishes and furnishings are high quality and beautifully designed, with an eclectic mix of new and refurbished finishes. We loved the large old farmhouse sink and didn't care that there was no dishwasher, as it was so pleasant to work at the sink. The custom reclaimed redwood cabinetry in the bath and master is stunning, as are the kitchen cabinets. Appliances were all in excellent condition and the BBQ on the lanai was used nearly every day. Everything we needed was at hand, including beach chairs, shopping bags, towels, books, TV, washer/drier etc. In short, we felt like we were home while staying here. The view of the river from the deck was exquisite and the daily visits from the peacocks were a wonderful sight. Highlights for us were the ability to walk to several beaches and into town (we didn't even take our car out for the first 2 weeks), paddling with the turtles on the river and bay, napping in the afternoon sun on the lanai daybed and exploring some of the off the beaten path places that Morgan and George told us about. We couldn't imagine better hosts or nicer people to stay with than Morgan and George, and can't wait to see them again!

We had a perfect stay. Everything was as described or even better. The house comes equipped with all you need and then some. The location is ideal. You can walk to everything! We enjoyed standup-paddling so much! And the river is right there and you get to the ocean in no time, paddling downstream! Morgan always made extra sure we are well taken care of and we totally were. We highly recommend this place! The resident pheasants sometimes made their typical noises, but we love this.

The place is gorgeous and very peaceful. We stayed in Waikiki for the first 2 nights and then moved to the North Shore for the rest of our trip. I am so glad we did because it was a completely different experience than the downtown area. It felt very authentic. Morgan was extremely helpful and accommodating. She walked us through the house and the amenities upon our arrival. The place has pretty much everything you would need, she even had a pack n play and a highchair which was a life saver for us since we were traveling with our 1 year old baby. The place is like in the pictures, super nice, but what you don't get to see in the pictures is the relaxing vibe and how serene it is. The view is incredible and the area is very nice and walkable. It offers a bbq, a beautiful kitchen, towels and beach supplies, 3 comfortable beds, kitchen utensils and condiments, cooking tools, coffee maker, parking, wifi, basic cable and a smart tv, which allows you to login into your netflix account. I am sure I am missing some but I wanted to list the things I could remember for those who may be wondering. Overall our stay was as great as it could be and we will definitely stay at Morgan's place when we come back to Hawaii.

My wife and I stayed at Morgan and George's house for our first wedding anniversary and our experience couldn't have been better. As stated in the description, the house is immaculately kept. We were in town for only 6 short days and dined out for dinner every night, so I was disappointed we weren't able to take advantage of the wonderful amenities of the kitchen and grill on the lanai. Morgan and George's house is extremely well stocked from the utensils and tools in the kitchen, to the huge supply of towels and toiletries in the beautiful bathroom, to linens, dresser and closet space in the bedrooms. The house is immaculately designed with numerous screened windows and ceiling fans to keep the house airy and cool. The cal king bed in the master bedroom gave me the best sleep I've had in weeks. The living room couches are super comfy and the TV has basic cable in addition to Netflix and Amazon for streaming. We had breakfast every morning on the lanai over looking an incredible backyard leading to the river, it was paradise for a pair of city slickers. Since we spent most of our time on the beach, we took advantage of using the beach towels, bags, folding chairs and umbrellas, and boogie boards downstairs. The location is within walking distance to the food trucks, two grocery stores, and just a short drive to numerous beaches. Morgan was in constant contact with me throughout our stay checking in to see if there was anything I needed. Morgan and George were ideal hosts and I knew I could get a hold of them right away if I needed anything. My wife and I can't imagine staying anywhere else other than Morgan's when we return. Thanks again for the wonderful trip.

Morgan was a fabulous host. Her and her husband made sure we had everything we needed and more. I can't tell you enough about how far and away they went to provide for our team while we stayed with them. They made sure to be responsive, when we arrived late in the evening and were ready to great us early in the morning before we went out. The listing looks even better than the photos, and I would recommend everyone who stays here to paddle up the river even if i wasn't brave enough to do so myself. Great Stay!!!!

The home was perfect. My family wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else. Morgan and George were so welcoming and provided us with everything we needed. The home made our stay so much more enjoyable to know after a long day we could come home to our temp home and just relax and enjoy.

Hale Muliwai was a wonderful place to finish up our holiday. Although Morgan was away, she ensured that we were looked after and the house was left ready for us. It is clean and comfortable and I loved sitting on the wharf counting the turtles each morning. We enjoyed having a full kitchen, comfortable bedding and space. The house is decorated with care and is clean and tidy. Our days on the Nth Shore were spent at the beach, snorkelling at Sharks Cove, walking to the shops in Hale'iwa and kayaking up river. Thank you Morgan for allowing us to stay in your lovely home. Hopefully next time we will get to meet you.

Morgan's place is a hidden oasis in the North Shore. The location is perfect... far enough from the busy streets of Haleiwa if you want some peace and quiet and close enough if you want easy access to restaurants, market, stores, beach, etc. The place itself is beautiful. Very clean and amazing decor. Combination of modern and Hawaiian country feel. The backyard is very peaceful and has access to the river which connects with the ocean. Great place for a small group as there is plenty of space. Mahalo Morgan!!!!!

Morgan's place perfect, the beds are comfortable, all the windows and the lanai door are screened and the appliances work perfectly (it was the first time we loved an electric stove-turbo heat!). Morgan is very open to your suggestion of what you need. There's a DVD player and Netflix and other streaming on a big TV with a comfortable viewing area. The Barbeque was a dream come true. It worked with no trouble and didn't burn anything unless we left it on too long. The most amazing thing to the 4 of us was the amenities: Plenty of soap, shampoo, tissues and good books too. You could move in here for a month or more and feel right at home. The washer is under the house, but the dryer is in the closet in the house and there is a useful drying rack on the lanai with a table, chairs a love seat and a day bed and still lots of space! Very relaxing. The Original Art was beautiful, the "coffee table books" gave us the impression that these people know art and then the paintings proved it. The decor was nicely blended and the materials used: floor to ceiling made us feel like the people who made this place, were really special too. Be sure to ask about the Turtles! Also, the location was very central, with no problem parking.

Thank you Morgan and George, Your place along the river is perfect. Loved going to sleep with warm breezes and the sound of birds. Everything in the place is so well stocked (lots of towels, zip locks, paper towels, cooking supplies, etc.) And the location walking distance to Haleiwa and close to all North Shore activities can't be beat. Your knowledge of the area and responsiveness when I asked a question was amazing! Thank you. We will be back!

Morgan’s place was spacious, clean, and provided everything we needed to make it feel like a home away from home! It was quiet and felt secluded even though it was within a quick walking distance of everything you could need in Haleiwa town. The backyard was beautiful and overlooked the river, and my kids especially loved seeing the wild peacocks roaming around and waking up to the sounds of the birds chirping in the morning. We couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Very nice! Morgan was a great host - let us know that she was available if we had any questions and very prompt and helpful responses. The living space was nicely laid out, comfortable and clean. Great location too - walk to surf shops and dining, but hidden away on quiet little slice of paradise.

Morgan’s home was magical and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It was located close to town but we felt miles away looking out at the lush gardens and river backing onto the property. There were thoughtful touches throughout with beautiful paintings and books available to read - it is clear that this is a much loved property. Thanks again Morgan and George. We’ll be back!

Great place and location for the three of us (husband and teenager). Excellent base for exploring North Shore beaches and other parts of island. Quick walk into town for dinner/shopping. Beautiful view of the lush yard and river from the Lanaie. More than enough supplies (toiletries, towels, etc) and books/info on area and Oahu. Great kitchen for cooking! Loved waking to birds and roosters. If you are sensitive to noise there is some light traffic during commuting hours - we brought earplugs and it did not bother us. Mahalo!

Morgan’s house couldn’t have been more perfect. She truly provides a home away from home and has thought of every touch you could possibly need down to nail clippers in an easy to find location! The location is beautiful and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city but close to local shopping and a quaint downtown area. There’s a beach, restaurants, and multiple coffee houses within walking distance. Eating dinner on the back porch, overlooking the river, really gives you a perspective on what is important. We stayed here with our 3 year old and while I’m in my second trimester of pregnancy and it was comfortable and cozy for all involved. The only thing that could make it any better is one window ac unit, but I suspect with the breeze that’s not necessary most of the year (we were here in August). I’d highly recommend Morgan’s place, and Morgan as a host. She was also incredibly accommodating of our late flight time and allowed us to stay late so that our toddler could get a nap in before our overnight flight. You really can’t beat that kind of hospitality. Thanks again, Morgan!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at this “tree house” in Haleiwa. The home is stylish and quiet feeling much like a country cottage. It’s proximity to Haleiwa allowed us to enjoy all the North shore has to offer while providing for a reasonably close drive to the city for shopping, activities and night life. Morgan and her family were very accommodating and communication was great making us feel at home. I highly recommend this property and look forward to returning in future.

Our stay at Morgan and George’s was better than expected, both full of adventures and relaxing! This is a private space, with an extremely convenient walk into town and access to the “stream” (actually the longest on the island) out the back door. Our family of 3 especially loved early mornings and late afternoons on the back deck and the California King in the master! We used the updated/modern kitchen for most of our meals and of course tropical drink preparation. Raised above the street (with a parking spot underneath) there was light traffic but nothing that kept or woke us up during our week-long stay. Most days we ventured out to explore the island before or after our son’s nap and spent the rest of the day in Haleiwa town. Great location, fantastic hospitality from the hosts and a better than expected living/play/cooking space! We are hoping to return soon to this little slice of paradise.

We have stayed in a lot of Airbnb homes and this is one of our favorites! Morgan has created the ultimate vacation get away. Everything was so well though out - from the decor, full equipped kitchen, snacks upon arrival, comfortable beds, quality linens, ceiling fans, etc. You feel like you are in a home not a rental. The location is perfect. Walk into town for dinner, stroll to the beach or jump on a paddle board and hit the river right outside your back door. Morgan and her husband could not have been nicer or more respectful. We will definitely be back!!

Morgan's place is nicer than it appears in pictures and is perfectly located for all of your North Shore needs. Close to town and the surf. The space is also quite clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay there.

Absolutely Perfect! Just finished a wonderful month at Morgan and George's beautiful place. Private yet a short walk to everything. Close to great beaches, shops and restaurants. The house is spacious and very well equipped. Lovely grounds right on the river. We would definitely return.

We highly recommend Morgan’s cottage. It was so beautiful ~ both inside and out! Morgan was ready and willing to answer questions anytime. The extra touches were most appreciated....rainy day? No worries because we had ponchos and an umbrella right there. Sunny day? We had sunblock to use! Soap, shampoo.... anything we might need was there for us. We loved the location. A perfect home base for exploring the island; far from the hustle bustle and traffic of Waikiki. We had an absolutely amazing week.
