We’ve have been up and running with airbnb since April 2013 and our experience with them and their customer base has been great. We are very pleased with the apartments we’ve created and judging from the customer feedback, our guests have been too. In order to maintain the standard that’s been set we’ve established these rules to maintain the space for you and all our future guests. 1. Check in will be after 3:00 unless previously arranged. 2. Check out will be noon unless previously arranged. 3. If you are staying more than three days, please take the garbage out and place in the binds located outside the building. 4. We know many people are coming for vacations and are here in New York to have a good time. However, please keep noise levels down after 11 pm. 5. No pets. 6. No smoking in the apartments 7. No hanging out on the stoop 8. Please turn off the lights and air conditioners when leaving the apartment. 9. Please lock the front door of the building each and every time you lea

Very nice place with extremely nice hosts right in the middle of one of the most inspiring place in NY . Diane ,Craig and this beatiful appartment are highly recommended .
Jun 27, 2019Beautiful, modern, and luxurious. Apartment is roomy by NY standards, completely remodeled, and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. Diane and Craig were lovely hosts and checked a few times to make sure everything was OK. There are 3 flights of stairs since this is the top of the Brown Stone - so not a good place for older people or perhaps someone with a baby. The apartment also has several sky lights - so that was a real bonus. The street is a quiet one by NY standards. Only a few blocks from two subway lines and around the corner from the Apollo Theater. Everything was top notch. Thank you.
Jun 27, 2019Dianne and Craig were wonderful, they met us as soon as we got to the apartment and were there within 20 minutes of when we were ready to check out. The place was clean, lots of towels, and such a great location, just a couple minutes to the A, D, or 2/3. We went to Harlem Tavern for dinner down on 116th, which is a great casual place, but it sounds like Corner Social right around the corner on 126th is a place to check out too. Lenox Coffee also had great, fresh coffee, just up on 129th. And, if you plan ahead or can brave the crowds, Red Rooster and Sylvias are just a couple blocks away as well. Overall, fantastic and I would definitely stay here again.
Jun 27, 2019We had such a great time staying in Diane and Craigs beautiful apartment! Right from the beginning Diane was so quick with communication and made everything so easy and smooth. Jun 27, 2019Diane was extremely nice from initial contact until our departure and always responsive. We feel we made new friends. We were a family of 4. Diane and Craig were more than accommodating and very welcoming. As hosts, they truly cared about us and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. It was a pleasure staying at their beautiful apartment. The place was immaculate and had everything ready. All the amenities listed were right-on and it is located in a very safe neighborhood. We would definitely recommend the place to anyone looking to staying in the NYC area or simply passing thru. All the buses and trains are very close and Time's Square is about 20 minutes away. Thank you for making our stay so unforgettable.

Jun 27, 2019Hi I'm from France and I just spent 9 nights at Diane and Craig's place, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Everything was brand new, clean, working and Diane and Craig are wonderful people. In fact the place looks better in real than the pictures and it's quite a spacious appartement. The three of us really enjoyed it. Don't worry about the neighbourhood, it's really safe and in fact there's really a lot to do and see in Harlem. The 125th street station is 3 blocks down (it's a 3min walk), with subway lines 2 and 3, you will access to any part of the city easily. There are 2 supermarkets, grocery stores, all majors fast food chains, and quality restaurants very close to the appartement. Don't forget to go to the Apollo Theater Amateur Night, it was one of the best night of our stay. In the end, if you want to feel home away from home in NYC, this is the place to go !

Jun 27, 2019We stayed 5 nights and had a wonderful stay at this apartment. It was well-equipped, location was good, near to laundro mat, restaurants, supermarket, bus stops and subway stations. Apartment was clean and wi fi worked like a charm. Perfect for our group of four. Diane was super fast in our email correspondence and met with us when we checked in. Jun 27, 2019Very nice apartment, clean and cozy. All you need for few day trip or maybe 6 month stay. Quiet neighborhood, convenient location, just a few minutes from a subway station, also several bus stations near by. Fast and reliable internet over Wi-Fi. We have literally nothing to complain about. We enjoyed every minute staying there. Definitely looking forward to coming back on our next trip to NYC. Craig and Diane are realy nice and friendly people, helpful in everything you need. Thank you once again.

Jun 27, 2019We had the best time!! Craig let us in and showed us around when we arrived. The place was great, very clean and beautifully decorated. The neighborhood was safe; we were able to arrive back late a night with no problems. We were there the day of a block party and were able to meet some of the neighbors. The place is close to everything; we were able to eat at Sylvia’s and only had about a 5 min walk back on our full tummies. Diane met us a check out right on time. Although we didn't need anything while we were there I'm sure if there were any problems they would have been taken care of right away. I emailed Diane a few times before checking in and was always responded to quickly. I would def. recommend Behind the Red Door to anyone looking for a nice, convenient place to stay. I hope this place is available every time I come!!
Jun 27, 2019Our stay in the surprisingly quiet, 3rd story walk up was lovely. Diane emailed, and Craig met us and gave a quick overview. The place is large for NYC, esp the bedroom. King bed, cotton linens, elegantly decorated. We slept with windows open , and it was fairly quiet til morning rush. Same deal with bath and kitchen; nice linens, everything works. Same deal with internet and a million movie choices; everything works. Beautiful wood floors; just like in the photos. What they don`t tell, is that Craig is a jazz luminary; we asked with whom he`s played, and he said " pretty much , everybody "... and he has ! I saw Sun Ra more than 30 years ago at Chicago Jazz fest, and Craig might have been in the band ! My husband told me he has tried to buy some apparently rare CD`s that Craig composed, or produced and they were available in the $300 range. We only learned as we were leaving. Don`t let the mild mannered demeanor fool you, folks; we`re talking big talent.
Jun 27, 2019Diane is a lovely woman and the apartment is just as lovely. She has done a wonderful job with the brownstone. The apartment is well maintained with beautiful finishes. The block is quiet and looks like something out of the Cosby Show. We enjoyed our stay.

Jun 27, 2019We just got back from our trip to NY, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay behind the red door. Diane and Craig were very accommodating with the check in time because we had an early flight. And whenever we had a question, Diane was super quick to respond. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Diane face to face, but we did meet Craig and he was really friendly. The apartment was located in Harlem and on a quiet street lined with trees and brownstones. It was in a perfect location to the train station. We also felt very safe at the location. The apartment itself was perfect and clean and neat. We all ( there were four of us) felt right at home. I recommend Diane and Craig's to anyone visiting NYC. We would definitely stay again. Thanks again Diane and Craig!

Jul 27, 2019Be sure to talk to one of the hosts to let them know when you will be getting into town so they can meet you with the key. They don't live in the building. There are three apartments in the building and this one is on the top floor. Quite a few stairs, no elevator. If you have mobility issues this might be the best place for you. The second bedroom is really small. As in REALLY small. The main bedroom is huge! Overall the apartment was in really good shape. The kitchen and attached living room are really cute. Bathroom is normal sized. All the amenities that you could need are there. We didn't have to call or text to ask for anything while we were there. It is Harlem and if you're not used to the inner city life you might not enjoy it. I love Harlem so I was happy and comfortable here but it should be in your comfort zone to stay here. We went to Marcus Samuelsson's restaurant which is right down the road from the apartment. That was a treat!
Jun 27, 2019We really liked the apartment ! It was big enough (we were with 4 adults) and clean and in a very convenient area for visiting NY: the subway was close. Also a good connection to La Guardia with bus M60. Just round the corner were nice places to eat and a good supermarket . We never felt unsafe, although I must say that the latest we came back was 8:00 pm. Diane and Craig were very nice people and did everything to make us feel comfortable. We would certainly recomment this apartment to our friends !
Jul 27, 2019We are a family of three (2 adults and an 18 months old baby) who stayed at the Behind the Red Door II for one week. Diane and Craig are great hosts. We didn't meet Diane but she was very quick answering to our questions before our arrival, helping us with different information and all that showed fantastic professionality and responsability. When we landed, we had some issues with the phone connection but still we sorted it out quickly. We got into the apartment as soon as we arrived without a problem. We met Craig and his brother and they were very helpful too. Craig gave us all the information we needed when we arrived and he was also available at any time if we had any problem. The apartment is fantastic and big enough for everything. It is even better than in the pictures. It has natural light all around and it really makes you feel like at home. You have absolutely everything you need, and as I said, we travelled with a baby and all his different baby needs, and we felt home :) Everything was very clean and super comfortable bed with plenty of room for the three of us. You also have other room and an inflatable bed that you could place in the main room. Although we were at the top floor and we had to carry a stroller, it was not an issue. The central heating works perfectly well and the apartment is nice and warm. But if you travel in summer, there are fans all around the apartment, so it should be nice and fresh too. The neighbourhood is very safe. We were walking around late at night (New Year's Eve, and the rest of the days at about 22.30/23 some days, one of them just on my own after a Broadway musical) and not a problem. You have cheap supermarkets and restaurants around. Harlem is a great neighbourhood, very beautiful, full of culture and really exciting. Moreover, The apartment is very well connected to the city centre. Lines 2 and 3 take you everywhere and you are in times square in 15 minutes as the most. The subway station is two blocks round the corner (more or less 3 minutes walking from the apartment). It works 24 h and with the metrocard you have unlimited trips for one week both by bus and subway. :) EVERYTHING is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE about the apartment, the neighbourhood, the location and the hosts. I recommend this place to everyone.I already recommended it to all my family and friends wishing to visit NYC :) Without a doubt, if any time we come back to NYC, this will be our first choice! Thank you very much for everything!!!! We enjoyed our stay to the maximum and We spent a fantastic week of holidays. It has been a Great family experience and that will stay in our hearts forever!!!:)
Jun 27, 2019I stayed at Behind the Red Door II in Harlem for 3 weeks for work and absolutely loved it. The apartment was spotless, beautifully decorated and comfortable. Great bed, nice linens & towels and everything you need for a short or extended stay. The location is amazing! Centrally located for everything in Harlem and close to several train and bus lines to get you to other NYC locations. I was traveling alone and came and went at all hours and always felt safe in the neighborhood. Diane and Craig are great hosts. They communicated with me throughout the process and Diane went above and beyond to make sure my stay was absolutely perfect. If you're looking for a place in New York I would suggest booking this one now before it's taken!

The place was even bigger than expected and with all the modern convenience that could be needed, and thanks to Craig we profit of all the neigborhood was offering. Jun 27, 2019We had a great time in NYC and the space is great. The size of the apartment is a LOT larger than the pics show. There are fans and air conditioning to keep things cool for the summer. Diane and Craig were very responsive to any issues that we had. Subways and buses are easily accessible. There are great shops and restaurants around the neighborhood.

Jun 27, 2019The apartment was really nice, very clean, recently renovated, and comfortably furnished. Diane and Craig were friendly, informative, and welcoming. The street was attractive, and the neighborhood interesting, and well-maintained. My wife's relatives live in a more expensive area nearby, and I found staying in Harlem to be more interesting and fun, as well as quite convenient.
Jun 27, 2019Behind ghe Red Door II was just as described and reviewed. The only slight difference from the pictures is that the unit is much brighter than shown. Both bedrooms and living room have windows and the bathroom and kitchen have skylights. Our son opted for the queen sized air mattress rather than the narrow sleeper in the 2nd bedroom, but he fit just fine in the big bedroom with us and was comfortable. This was our first experience with airbnb and would gladly try it again.
Jun 27, 2019It was a very pleasant stay at Diane's apartment. I stayed here for 4 nights. The apartment's conditions were exactly the same as the pictures, at some points even better. I love the silverware. We cooked a lot and we could find everything we need. All kitchenette were clean and good. There was a concern for guests with large baggages because the unit is in the third floor and there was no elevator. We had to lift three large baggages through the small stairs. However, the apartment condition's was worth of that effort. The neighborhood was relatively safe. We had no problem coming home late at 10pm. The apartment also near to the train stations and bus stops. Only in 5-10 minutes walking distance. Overall, I'm satisfied with Diane's apartment and would love to come again if I have a chance to visit NY.
Jun 27, 2019Really nice people, quick to respond to our queries and easy going. The apartment was comfortable and well equipped. Second bed is either a blow-up mattress or a small futon so the apartment is more suited to couples (perhaps with young kids) as oppose to adults wanting to sleep separately. All in all a good experience - would recommend to a friend.

Jun 27, 2019Abbiamo soggiornato da Diane e Craig a natale con i nostri due figli grandi, casa molto comoda per vicinanza alla metro, supermercati ristoranti e lavanderie. L'appartamento rispettava la descrizione dell'annuncio, abbiamo cucinato nella cucina attrezzata e pulita. Solo le scale sono un pò strette per portare bagagli grandi al secondo piano ma alla fine è tutto ripagato dal calore della casa. Persone molto disponibili, gentili e veloci nelle comunicazioni. Veramente consigliato.
Jun 27, 2019I had a lovely stay at Diane & Craig's apartment. It is very clean, comfortable & well heated to keep us warm in the cold winter. The free wifi was excellent & the kitchen was well-equipped. Location wise it is very closed to the subway (5-10 minutes walk) with many different lines allowing easy access for sight seeing around NYC & Brooklyn. It is also at a walking distance to many restaurants, shops & even pharmacies. The only issue that we had were some delays in response in communication. As a whole, I definitely recommend this apartment as it really makes you feel like home despite being located in the busy city of New York.

Diane and Craig were friendly hosts. The neighborhood, as stated in other reviews, is also nice. We did not feel unwelcome, unsafe or encounter any hostile behavior. We would gladly stay there again :)
Jun 27, 2019Thank You Diane & Craig, Honestly this experience execeded all our expectations. Simplicity of communication was effortless & quick from the reservation process to arrival & departure... Diane is a super nice lady and very accommodating to our early arrival & departure times. The apartment was very clean, well maintained & decorated in a modern simplicity. We enjoyed the large open spaced bedroom and were amazed the amount of space for the price (felt like a high-end suite). The neighborhood was quiet and easy to navigate with great food & 2 blocks from the subway. We will easily stay here again for our future NYC trips hands down. Way larger & more comfortable than most hotel rooms in nyc.. that and the hosts were SO NICE Thanks again Chaz & Rodney

Renting the apartment opposed to a hotel made us feel like locals and more relaxed. The apartment was clean and cozy, prefect for a few adults ready to enjoy New York. We really enjoyed our stay at The Red Door II and would definitely stay again. Thank you Diane and Craig!

Jun 27, 2019After staying at a hotel in a very dodgy part of Brooklyn, we were delighted to find this gem in a fantastic part of Harlem. Diane was extremely helpful and an absolute pleasure to deal with - we couldn't have asked for a better host. The street is delightful and extremely close to shops, bars and the subway. The apartment itself was very spacious, comfortable and clean, superbly decorated with an amazingly comfortable bed! After our bad experiences in the first hotel we stayed at, Behind The Red Door II was a welcome oasis and completely restored my faith in New York. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
Jun 27, 2019We loved the hosts Diane and Craig! Craig met us there at the time we arrived which was later then we expected with traffic. The neighborhood was awesome, quiet and lots to do on either end of the street. Everything is in walking distance which was great because in NY you have to walk everywhere and we felt safe which was important because we have young kids. The apartment was as described, clean and modern. They provided us with linens, pots and pans to cook and blankets for the extra bed in small room. There was plenty of room for my family of four.

Notre hôte est très sympathique et disponible en cas de question ou de problème ( nous avions redu un jeu de clés à la Statue de la Liberté !!!). Nous avons été plus que satisfaits de cet appartement !
Jun 27, 2019We were three adults and a 3-year-old staying together in this apartment. Diane made sure we felt welcome by establishing communication before we arrived and ensuring we had all necessary contact information for when we arrived. The listing was as described, and we were thrilled to find a blender in addition to add to our meal options. The two air conditioners installed in the windows were on full blast for the duration of the stay due to the heat, and we were certainly relieved to have them! The neighbourhood was, as a friend residing in New York put it, "an up-and-coming trendy place to be but still a bit messy." We felt safe walking around during the day and in groups at night, but I don't think I would have walked by myself at night as a lonely female. Regardless, everyone we met in the neighbourhood was respectful and helpful and the businesses were clean and professional inside even if there were interesting characters outside. It wasn't really much different than riding the subway with a plethora of interesting characters anyways. For a good price and quick access to the subways, groceries and restaurants, the apartment was definitely a good place to stay. We were absolutely satisfied and would recommend it.

Jun 27, 2019Diane was a wonderful and helpful host giving us hints on restaurants, parking, metro stops, etc. the apartment is perfectly located about three blocks from the metro stop and from the tour bus that we used. there is a grocery store two blocks away, reasonable and covered parking two blocks away and restaurants galore. the apartment is more than adequate for 2 to 4 people and we enjoyed the stay very much. we would recommend this as a great value in a great location; we are planning to return to the apartment in the future.
Jul 27, 2019Beautifully finished property in an exciting community. Better for a couple than three and up three floors on narrow, steep stairs. But as a comfortable, well priced apartment for your New York stay it beats hotels hands down. It's near great restaurants but, if like me you like cooking and relaxing in front of the TV in the evening, it's perfect.
Jun 27, 2019I highly recommend staying at this apartment! It is exactly how it appears in the photos: very clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. We had everything we needed. Diane was extremely helpful and accommodating, making sure we knew what transport was best to get us there on the day of the NY marathon, and even giving us directions to see the tail-end of the marathon as it passed through Harlem (the carnival atmosphere was fantastic). It was a nice personal touch that we appreciated.

Jun 27, 2019We had a delightful week in Harlem; an excellent base for Manhattan and further afield. The apartments is exactly as described - plenty of space and well equipped kitchen. Great bed, nice and clean. Diane is an excellent host - good communication between booking and the trip itself, and she was there to welcome us as promised with a quick intro to the flat and its workings. Would certainly consider again if in the area. Very close to Lines 2/3 and a sort stroll to A/B/C/D with direct connection to JFK.

She made great suggestions on restaurants and stores in the area, helped us navigate parking, and checked in to see how things were going during our stay. The apartment was perfect for three of us. The main bedroom is a great size and the bed was comfy. In the heart of Harlem, we loved the energy and proximity to the subway. Thanks for everything!
Jun 27, 2019I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Craig and Diane's place. The apartment is super clean and exactly as shown in photos. I especially enjoyed sleeping in the big comfy bed and the spaciousness of the bedroom. Diane was helpful in helping me to find a bus line that went right to Columbia Univ where I was attending a conference. Will definitely look to stay there again the next time I'm in town.

Jun 27, 2019Had a great three day weekend trip with friends. Diane was really friendly and helpful. The place is huge compared to other places I have stayed in New York. The subway lines A,B,C,D,2 and 3 are about two blocks away. We landed in La Guardia and we took the M60 and left us about 3 blocks from Diane's place. We would definitely stay again.

Jun 27, 2019Superbe appartement à HARLEM. Trés trés propre. Nous étions une famille de deux adultes et deux enfants agés de 5 à 7 ans. Et c'était parfait. Aussi grâce à un lit king size. Les supermarchés sont à proximité et le métro aussi. Nous recommandons cet appartement. Super contact avec Diane.

Jun 27, 2019Diane was very responsive and helpful. Did not get a chance to meet in person, but everything went smoothly via text/airbnb. For Manhattan, the place was surprisingly spacious, and we really appreciated the amount of natural light as well as the well appointed kitchen. Very cute/renovated brownstone, and nicely decorated to boot. Just be prepared for two flights of stairs to get to apartment ;) Location was a very easy walk to points of interest (Apollo, Sylvia's, Red Rooster, Ginny's Supper Club, etc), and nearby groceries/wine shops, bistros, bars and cafes as well. Pleasant hike to upper end of Central Park, and just a few blocks to get to subway. We found it easy to get hold of Uber when necessary as well. I've stayed in Manhattan many times before and this was among the best of experiences, despite the need to think a little further ahead of time to get to the Theater District and other places of interest further downtown -- on the other hand, we really enjoyed getting to know Harlem, and finally made it to The Cloisters in Washington Heights, too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Jun 27, 2019Diane and this place were great. The apartment was super clean and nicely decorated. The street and building were nice and quiet. Diane was friendly, on time, and extra helpful. She gave me a lot of tips about transportation and restaurants. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Jun 27, 2019I took my son and cousin for New Years Eve and this apartment was amazing! It was so super easy getting around tow. Diane was quick to respond to all of my questions. They neighborhood was so quite! We felt completely safe, and and everything was exactly as described! I would and have recommended this apartment and I can wait to come back.

Jun 27, 2019We stayed in the Red Door apartment for almost five weeks and really enjoyed our stay. The apartment is very roomy for a central Harlem apartment and it was an asset to have so much room. The bed was huge and super comfortable and the linen and pillows were of a high quality. The kitchen had all we needed to cook almost every night. There is a smaller room that can accommodate one person and that is handy if you are travelling with a child or a third adult. The apartment was on the top floor of three and you have to navigate a narrow staircase. Staying in Harlem is an experience on many levels. It can be noisy at times and sirens continuously wail. That said we never felt unsafe and freely walked the streets. For a different New York experience, the Red Door and hosts Diane and Craig would be hard to beat.
Jul 27, 2019Meu marido e eu ficamos hospedados neste apartamento por um mês. O apartamento é muito espaçoso, aconchegante e dispõe de tudo de que necessitamos durante nossa estada. A localização é excelente, muito próxima da estação de metrô. Tem restaurantes, bares, cafés e supermercado por perto. Diane mostrou-se muito atenciosa e sempre disposta a nos ajudar com qualquer coisa. O bairro é movimentado e animado, mas a residência é calma e silenciosa. Adoramos tudo e esperamos poder voltar.
Jun 27, 2019Endroit idéal à 3mns de la ligne 2 qui vous mène au coeur de Manhattan. Appartement spacieux, parfaitement équipé. Nombreux commerces (Whole Food) et bars/restaurant tout prêt. À 1,5kms de Central Park, que demander de plus !
Jun 27, 2019Diane is an excellent hostess, I highly recommend staying with Diane and in her cute and complete apartment (very complete!), With easy access to everything. This region of Harlem is very beautiful, safe, musical and with a lot of diversity. The street of the apartment is very beautiful. 2 laundries in each corner, supermarkets very close and the metro 5 minutes walk. All perfect. We love, thank you very much Diane for everything, I will certainly stay with you again
